I didn't see this celebration until after the game ended but I'm convinced it triggered England's players; lit a fire under them to finally stop the "arrogant Americans". Glad that didn't ultimately cost us...
I'm not sorry Megan stole your girlfriend; with an attitude like yours, you didn't appreciate her properly anyway.
This was the thing that stuck out most to my co-worker about the first half [and him repeatedly observing it made me recognize it as well as an incredible talent of England's squad]: so many incredibly precise, perfectly connected, long-distance passes. Didn't see quite as many of those in the second half, when the game in general got a lot uglier.
I try quite hard to completely avoid "believing" in anything without solid evidence that the "belief is correct. I prefer to just wait and see what happens and that way, if I am not pretty sure ahead of time, I am always surprised and I usually like surprises. Like my granddaughters just surprised me by bringing me a snack and a glass of brandy as a reward for providing all I did today. They will NEVER know that I enjoyed doing it for them even more than I enjoyed the "reward" they just provided. However I do wonder if they are setting me up for something for Sunday. I guess I am just suspicious based on how they tricked me into the bet that resulted in today. They are sneaky little blonds. As far as "chants" etc go the players on the field rarely hear them so they are just for the fans and therefore should also be ignored by most people. To be honest I fail to understand why anyone chants or sings or does anything other than spontaneously cheer or boo when appropriate. It just seems to do nothing but distract from the match they are supposedly there to watch and enjoy.
If this was the play I'm recollecting, she actually ended up tugging on Lavelle's shorts. I remember seeing her black sports underwear completely exposed and not even having any idea what I was looking at until about 5 seconds into the slow-motion replay. Crazy.
Heath's would-be game-changing goal the other night was revoked by a similar margin. In consideration of what transpired in today's game, I'm prepared to rescind my objection to the revocation of that goal.
Worst PK call I've ever seen, particularly considering that VAR [which the refs shouldn't have even had to use in this case] should have been able to quickly invalidate any claim for a penalty. The play viewed dozens of times from several different angles showed me the same story: a self-induced trip followed by very bad acting. Hmmm...England somehow successfully drawing a penalty in a World Cup semifinal in an effort to equalize on a play that involved ZERO contact with the player claiming to have been fouled. Why does that sound familiar...? Oh yeah,... (0:45) I was screaming JUSTICE! at the top of my lungs at the restaurant when the PK was missed. Even more poetic justice that the dive artist behind the second worst PK call I've ever seen was the one who couldn't convert.
Naw, VAR had both key calls right today. Although you could see White was offside on her "goal" in the first replay they showed even before VAR got involved. Becky stepped on the back of her heel. There are a couple of replay angles that showed it pretty clearly.
Yeah, this is hilarious. [emoji23][emoji1787][emoji23][emoji1787][emoji23][emoji1787][emoji23][emoji1787][emoji23]
I actually found Alex Morgan's celebration kind of snotty. No need for that, really. The goals speak for themselves.
I'm sorry but I still see zero contact. Perhaps Fox and its highlight reels never showed any of the replay angles to which you're referring. Maybe someone can come up with one of those handy gifs that @FanOfFutbol hates showing the contact "pretty clearly". Even if there was any hidden contact, it would have had to have been extremely light. It could have only taken place in mid-air and was definitely not a "stepping on", terminology that suggests that White's foot was actually driven into the ground by Sauerbrunn, which in fact would have merited a penalty.
But that is all that is left to be beaten. I am quite sure we would be perfectly happy to beat teams from other continents but they all have gone back to their homes and left us to fight the great fight to uphold the honor of "The Rest of the World."
The Final thread is not up yet so I'll put this here: Rose Lavelle says her hamstring will be fine for Sunday.— Subscribe to GrantWahl.com (@GrantWahl) July 2, 2019 I'd start the thread but I ain't changing our luck...
I reserve the right to dislike ( not "hate" because I hate "hate") anything I want. But I agree, I cannot see any real contact at all. The leg that was supposed to be hit did not change direction or seem to be at all "moved" by whatever contact supposedly happened. But it actually turned out to be a good thing because it did not change the score and it took time. That meant there was less time for England to score. So it was helpful to the US cause.
That's assuming the refs were planning on putting up 7 minutes of stoppage time even without this delay, which is entirely possible.
They showed it over and over, and I couldn’t see anything. At first glance live it looked like Sauerbrunn dragged her down, but in those replays I didnt even see their feet grazing each other. I don’t see how they found anything definitive to justify the pk?
