I do not. I bet that list is quite as impressive as the one above. Makes you wonder what kind of team Suriname could have.

  2. They've got a hellofajob to qualify in the Euro confederation, if you mean Wales, Scotland and England.
Wales hardly ever qualify and Scotland is fast on that Wales thrack....I think.

Wiithout checking, I'd wager that more players holding (at least) British nationality have appeared in the World Cup than any other "fully independent nation-state" (the whole "home-nation" thing makes terminology clunky!)

And probably more "countries" with majority British players have qualified over the years than other nationalities. But that's just a guess.

But a lot of those players tend to be playing in the Championship/League One.

I think you have a future as an international "Dutch-dual national" broker. Like the great Dutch traders of old, in reverse, you can sail to the "Colonies" with lists of eligible players who are probably not quite going to make the Sr. Orange and might be persuaded to switch - all for a small fee! (No need to thank me, I'm generous like that...)

Don't you mean English teams of the past have been very Jamaican-heavy?? :p:p

Think of any Oranjie player who looks African, and you've got a Surinamese or Dutch Antilles international.

To be blunt Surinam, having walked into a CONCACAF WC slot could be a very tricky proposition for the big boys - and that includes the knock-out rounds.

These days "any" is a stretch (There are a number of Dutch+other country marriage players, like Depay) - but certainly many if not most! And some real ballers.

  13. Uhm, no. We've had an influx of refugees from Africa the last two/three decades. Players like Kongolo arenot from Surinam/Antillian descend.

    ...if they allowed dual citizenship.

They don't, so none of the Dutch-raised players with a Surinamese background can be recruited.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned France in this discussion. I just did a transfermarkt search for players worth more than 2 million euros who were born in France and play for an African country. There are 89 names. https://www.transfermarkt.de/detailsuche/spielerdetail/suche/15517762. It would probably be possible for Morocco, Algeria, Cameroon, Senegal, and maybe a couple others to field decent teams made up entirely of French-born players.

  16. They even can field tremendous teams.
Morocco for the last decade with success is courting Dutch-Moroccan players to choose Morocco over the Orange team. Thanks to the vicious anti Moroccan/islmophobic parties and politicians they have chosen for the Moroccan FA. We Dutch are still moaning about a star like Ziyech being lost.
The big issue with the African nations, their FA's and confederation is the rampant corruption and incapability/sub par organisation is having a negative impact on their performance in relation to the quality of the selections.

The casual USMNT is way different than the BigSoccer fan. Which is why I never understood why some soccer journos on twitter bash this place (not you Brian).

I was in the AO section on Sunday, and the amount of fans who don't display the basic knowledge of the team that we (as a community) have on BigSoccer, is pretty crazy. At least they are going to the game, though.

I think when people bash "BigSoccer", what they really mean is that they are bashing the fairly awful USMNT forums.

Yep, if you stick to BS for factual info about players as found in the YA forums, you can be well informed -- assuming you ignore a handful of bad takes & overzealous supporters.

Yup. I avoid the USMNT forums at all costs. You have to wrap up and protect yourself from the stupidity and unrealistic expectations. If you don't you're gonna catch something nasty in there. Something real nasty.

Shit. Wow. Even that's a risk. You just take a peak in there and just read a few a thread titles and you itch in places you shouldn't. It's inevitable. Happens every time.

And sometimes they will track you down while you're minding your own business. I got dragged onto the Gringo Wall of Shame for joking I wasn't going to make some business calls to Mexico until I was sure they were winning against New Zealand.
