So they aren't as good as Haiti or Jamaica, they are top 4 in the region, c'mon, Haiti have never been here before, they are as good as them and Panama, Honduras, any of these teams can qualify for the WC, though Honduras and Panama didn't have the best tourney's, in fact most of region hasn't really impressed me here, Mexico and the US look vulnerable, Nations League and the WC qualys will be very fascinating indeed, Curacao and Haiti have been the most impressive for me.

With the hype, the players available, and the manner in which we blew a two goal lead in the second half against this underdog opponent (albeit a hardworking, plucky side), "disappointing" is a pretty major understatement. We choked.

I would not call Haiti an underdog here, they just beat Costa Rica coming in, so you'd think Mexico would demolish Costa Rica if they were that bad, but they did not, so Haiti's win was very impressive, Haiti have been the best team here for me and would not surprise me if they beat Mexico.

Leaving any specifics about Haiti aside, the fact that we didn't make the semis means, to me, that we did not achieve what we should have at this tournament.

Still a lot of positives to take but we came up shorter than we should have.

Basically, Canada beat 2 pub sides in Martinique and Cuba, got outclassed by Mexico, then capitulated against another pub side in Haiti. Nothing has changed in Canadian football in a century.

Haiti is hardly a pub side. They beat Costa Rica as well.

It’s the way we lost. Any team left in this tournament, will and should be able to hold off a 2-0 lead. After Godihno made his second error , leading to Haiti’s 2nd straight goal, he should have been yanked. We choked, plain and dimple.

Now watching Haiti go toe to toe with Mexico right now, I’m seething inside knowing this should/could be Canada. Which would have put us into the stratosphere in regards to world soccer recognition. Now....we’re still seen as the same ol Canada

You talk like they are automatically top 4 in the region, they aren't, they are in the mix with Haiti, Jamaica, Panama and Honduras, like where is this coming from, thinking they are better than these nations when these nations have performed better than Canada in the past and currently.

You are talking like Canada does this on a regular basis, they don't, they are young and don't really have exp. at this level.

It should not be Canada, they way Haiti is playing they totally deserved it, Haiti for me have been the best team here, they beat Costa Rica, won their group, beat Canada and barely lost to Mexico, Canada would've been crushed by Mexico.

Mexico and the US are up top and Canada is in the mix with a number of other teams who, collectively, occupy spots 3-8. On any given day the order of spots 3-8 can change. With how we had been playing, I expected us to be closer to 3 than to 8 for this tournament. Hence my saying we under performed.

This is a disappointment no doubt, but to say that nothing has changed simply isn't true. In the past we have lost to teams like Martinique, and would even have struggled against the likes of Cuba (who we solidly thrashed 7-0).

A 3-1 loss to Mexico is not great but not bad either. If you look at what Mexican fans are saying about the game we played, they notice a difference.

We have the best record of any team that didn't make the semi-finals in this tournament, so although it's not official, I think that's good enough to say we came in 5th. We also have two of the top three scorers.

Short story: we've improved but still have a way to go.

Costa Rica are #3 generally no doubt.

Yes, I agree, I liked what they did in the group stage, no doubt they have improved, but are still young and have to learn more.

Mexican match though Canada rested some players.

Performed well vs. Mexico though in a bigger match.

I'm unsure how the US can still be considered a top nation in the region when they did not qualify for the last WC and have continued to not perform that well too.

Two years ago we had a struggle defensively in our first match vs a minnow, blowing a substantial lead but in the end putting them to the sword, then played two traditionally challenging opponents to well fought draws then lost a QF semi against another traditionally challenging opponent that went on to upset Mexico on the way to the final. As with Davies and Kaye, we've had a new player emerge (David) as a star of the program via the Belgian league. So for me, that's a wash in terms of improvement from then to now.

What hasn't changed is that in a crunch game we failed to deliver, especially in this one when we had a two goal lead and, even after surrendering a silly goal, still were in control of this match. Herdman, by his own public announcements and pr spin (Navy SEAL beach training), was brought in to change this mentality but this QF that he still has a ton of work ahead for himself and the coaching staff.

You could argue that with the inexperienced guys he used in the back line that this was always going to be a challenge (I said this before and throughout the tourney), the Gold Cup was always going to be a stepping stone for the ultimate goal of WC qualification, but to lose the QF in the manner in which he did, regardless of the great run of a plucky Haiti, was step backward to chokes gone by.

Lots of work ahead, for sure.

The US started great vs. Jamaica, best they've looked in a long time, of course they are playing at home though.

The next Gold Cup will be far more telling, where these nations are at then we will have a much better idea who will qualify for the WC.

In WCQs, you lost 3-0 hosting Mexico and 2-0 at Mexico, so losing 3-1 is about the same. I agree about "not great but not bad either" for that game, and I would say for the whole Gold Cup. If the WCQ format remains the same, you're arguably the team most likely to have its Semifinal fate decided on the last day.

How is finishing second in the Gold Cup not performing that well? As of now Mexico is Number 1 in Concacaf as opposed to having a two-way or three-way debate, but USA is still one of the top three in the region.

I think Nation League will give us a more accurate picture of the ranking in CONCACAF. Everyone will bring their A game, there will be no hiding/excuses this time
