That has to be called a penalty since the arm stopped what was almost a sure goal.

Don't agree with the yellow card though. Nothing the Japanese player could do to get out of the way.

Second penalty for USA was a joke, but nobody complaints ;).

P.S. Haven't seen the penalty. Was in the toilet. Will see it in the FIFA highlights.

If that’s the kind of glaring error VAR delivers, what’s the point? Seriously, this isn’t any better than the old system

That's how sad the state of affairs in the game has been with the shite we have been served since this tournament started.

Review the damn laws. If it stopped a goal, that’s red.

Ifthe hand was completely in a natural position, was being withdrawn from the ball at top speed and the ball hits the chest it isn’t handling. Period. Not a foul not a PK.

    90+1' (of +5') 2-1 Japan subs in (2 of 3) #13 Saori Takarada for #8 Mana Iwabuchi.

90+1' (of +5') 2-1 Off the restart, Sugasawa gets behind Netherland's high line and chases a longball dropping to box top 6-left -- and whiffs on the trap. van der Gragt clears ball over endline?

90+2' (of +5') 2-1 Japan left ck, to 8m 4-left. Backheel flick to 15m 1/4 right, Sugita shoots left roundhouse to 4m 1/3 left, Spitse comes off near post and chest-blocks on knees. Scramble at 5m 1/4 left, van der Gragt on knees traps balls between her legs, Japan foul her poking at it.

It very clearly hit the arm. It wasn't intentional but it was clearly a penalty.

This was a real good match with many ups and downs and great plays and a few stumbles that were well covered by others.
It is too bad that the refereeing, or lack thereof, ruined it. The PK call was horrible and the Dutch should have been called for dangerous play for the scramble in the box and sitting on the ball.

Review the damn laws. Hitting the arm isn’t the test. Was it handled is the test. Ifthe arm is moving away, the ball hits the arm, not the other way around, and the arm is in natural position (eg not out flailing about) that’s textbook not a foul.

Given the notion that the refs are playing favorites, may as well conceal the rest of the tournament

Italy need depth. They will suffer in the later rounds, especially if they lose a player to YC accumulation.
