I do not understand why Canada consistently under performs on the big stage. What gives? They certainly have the talent in my opinion.
They definitely have the talent. I think continuing to start Sinclair was one big problem, as others have pointed out. Canada's attack is largely oriented around getting the ball to her, and she just isn't dynamic enough anymore. She is still an effective poacher; she can still finish, is savvy, but doesn't find space easily these days or create much herself. I was very surprised that she basically lost her nerve on the PK: Was apparently not confident about beating the Swedish goalie, who had saved a Sinclair PK sometime recently, and so asked Beckie to take it. Not a terrible decision--Beckie is talented and game, and her effort was good--but a surprising one nonetheless.
I knew on paper Sweden was the better side. Jakobsson, Blackstenius & Rolfo make up one of the top front lines at the WC(the mid & defence isn't up the par though) Jakobsson has the fastest stride in the business(whats the whole bleeping point of passing when she gets there faster?). Blackstenius was billed as the next big thing during her youth years(or if you like, the Swedish Miedema!). Hasn't lived up to the billing so far as an adult......not yet! Rolfo proved deadly for Bayern Munich(@Thomsen would back me up on that) On defense, Fisher starts over Germany's best CB, Doursoon over at Wolfsburg. Their one weakness might be at GK, Lindahl, she lost her starting job over at Chelsea to one gal battling cancer! r Nope they don't!(talent) they got a smorgasbord of players that have a hard time making it to the starting lineup on their respective pro clubs. They got now a central Euro coach that makes them do pretty passes all game long. Previous coach, Herdman, made them into a brute physical team and got them rewarded with two bronze medals.. But I'm afraid their glory days, like Tancardi stomping on Carli's head, is long over! btw............if I remember last time, Canadians lay the blame squarely on born, bred, everything American(who just happens to play for Canada), Lauren Sesselmann. to the point that she got harassed & named called on her own twitter account(which she has to close down). Wonder if their going to do the same to Beckie?(who's born, bred, everything American)
Wut? how could ppl attack Lauren? She's so cute. And I still think Asllani is the key, she has the creativity and skill to give Sweden what they usually lack of.
Oh, Canada. Didn’t have the offensive horses to move on. Now that they’re out, can we borrow their defense? Canada is like the 51 state, right? Good job, Sweden. Love to watch Asllani. Blackstenius sounds like a super villain. Will be rooting for them against Germany. The Fox German commentator is a bit much.
What is it with you and this constant referral to race!? Race has NO PLACE in football so stop bringing it here, you may not like the England team but offside is offside no matter how you look at it! Or are you actually suggesting that the rules should simply be overlooked because of Euopean countries 'colonial pasts'? Get over it will you.
That is something I REALLY did not expect from the French. But I am not there and I cannot be there so the French (or is it a FIFA morality thing) cannot deny me. BTW: Was there vodka at the WC in Russia?
the Swedes even had a cooler named player called 'Hammer'-lund(but she didnt make the squad) the Swedes made that one masterpiece of a film. The girl with the Dragon tatoo. But then followed it up with whats been called the worst sequel ever!(kinda mcuh like they play soccer!) Hingst was a hoot at the last WC, mixing it up with Lalas Alexi Lalas and Ariane Hingst wager on USA vs Germany - YouTube but then the way she chopped up the the star banled banner, I wished Lalas would of won the bet instead Ariane Hingst pays off bet, sings US National Anthem - YouTube
It is not legal to sell alcohol in Stadiums in France, I am sure VIP are exempted of this, they get their champagne
Interview with Beckie after the game confirmed that Sinclair asked Beckie if she wanted to take the kick. [emoji849] But whatever, Lindahl guessed right, the kick was fine. Sinclair could have been stopped too.
SenseSense of humor, dude. I phrased it the way I did BECAUSE I see things with a racial tone. And because of all the commentary about refs favoring European teams. And, to be clear, I do like England. I would be pleased if they win it all because how they are handling/handled the accusations of Aluko.
I do remember Karina on the Sol team...It was ten years ago. I did see her play at the stadium in Carson, CA several times. Sinclair will be 40 years old in 4 years...This will be her last World Cup... She will probably retire before next World Cup... Mia Hamm, Abby Wambach...They all retired before they became 40 years old...
(Late) FIFA official highlights of the game: Canada deserved going out, but Stephanie Labbé's tears broke my heart.
Seriously, pal. What kind of coach would you be if you let players dictate such important decisions? I'm sure the coach has established a specific order about who takes whatever kind of set pieces.
Seems to me they beat France twice for the last two Olympic bronze medals. They also finished as high as fourth in the WWC. I wouldn’t call that consistently underperforming on the big stage. France on the other hand...well that’s a team much more deserving of that criticism. What’s their highest WWC finish? Olympic medals?
Fine. I tried to be polite, but now piss off if that's how you see fit. Heiner-Moller is a slow-witted manager who doesn't have what it takes to carry on in the job. I would kill to bring John Herdman back with the girls because I don't care about how the men's team is performing at the Gold Cup at all.
