90+8' (of +7') 1-0 Canada shoot frenetically around Sweden's box. #_ jumps for a header at 3m box left, Glas jumps into her. 90+9' (of +7') 1-0 Canada fk at 3m box left, to 4m right post, Lindahl punches across? 90+9' (of +7') 1-0 Canada left ck, cleared to arc left. Lawrence shoots right roundhouse into Glas(?)'s right elbow held tight against torso, ball bounces out to arc left. Schmidt shot blocked? Schmidt tries to drive rightward, but -- FT 1-0. Sweden hold and advance.
It might sound harsh but I find it hard to watch Canada games nowadays. Just always seem to be dull regardless of opponents.
Asllani is the MVP for me, that assist was just beautiful and had 2 very threatening shots later. It wasn't her fault on the PK.
They won't move her to the bench until she breaks that record. Which I hope she does soon so Canada can move on and start building around younger, faster players.
The US is the only non-European team on their side of the bracket and the remaining semi that gets set tomorrow could easily be two more Europeans. That could make the whole rest of the Tournament seem to be the US vs Europe. Interesting but not entirely unexpected. Although highly unlikely I hope Japan and the US win through to produce a rematch of the last final. I bet, if that happens, there are no US hat tricks scored.
Well the difference today was Sweden getting their first chance out of the blue and putting it in the net... Hopefully Germany will beat them with ease
Considering their FIFA-ranking, Canada were a huge disappointment. So little to offer in attack. Nothing but long balls and awful long range shots.
Well they did play a friendly in Sweden earlier this year and if not with ease, then Germany beat them rather comfortable
Germany keeps beating Sweden in all meaningful (or not) games again and again...Wonder that's because of inferior mentality, less talent or something...
That's been their problem: They were on a huge roll before they lost to The Netherlands, but they aren't all that good in attack and were winning a lot of games by 1-0. Very surprised by the fact that Sinclair did not take that PK. I half expected there to be a VAR review of that very last strike by Canada to end the game.
As I have said many many times the results in friendlies have about as much meaning as Alexi Lalas' analysis. While it might predict the future it is more likely to predict regurgitation.
I don't usually watch the post match program on FS1 but KK made me go to tears. She was our goalkeeper for LA SOL once upon a time and she was such a vocal leader for our squad. It hurt to see her break down and cry when she was talking about Sinclair. Jesse Fleming is our best player on our UCLA squad and she's only going to get better.
Kenneth Heiner-Moller blatantly lied to the media by saying that the girls decide who takes the penalty kick. That guy has no business carrying on if he wants to wash his hands on an obvious mistake he made himself.
Sadly I think Sinclair getting the record is more important than a good team, no matter how many more games it will take her.
before the WC started, Canada should of done a 'Wambach' & played bunch of tomato cans so Sinclair could of gotten her record hate to toon my own horn.......but
Heiner-Moller may not be a great coach but he's not lying here. As I thought, it goes back to the PKs at Algarve. Beckie made a crucial PK while Lindahl stopped Sinclair's “I feel bad for asking her.” Christine Sinclair on #CAN missed penalty. Sinclair asked Beckie, partly because Lindahl saved Sinclair penalty at the Algarve in March. #FIFAWWC #SWECAN— Har Journalist (@HarJournalist) June 24, 2019
Not a huge upset. They tied 0-0 earlier this year at Algarve. From the FIFA ratings, there's only a small 44-point difference between the two teams (Canada 2006 - Sweden 1962) which gave Canada roughly (.563) odds of advancing. Based on recent performance ratings, it was a toss-up. Canada's performance rating since 1/1/2018 was 1958; Sweden'ts 1957
