LLoyd was offside but the question becomes "did she interfere?" Under the interpretation of even a year ago that was offside but who knows now.
In this case I agree with the commentators, Lloyd was offside and did participate so it "should" be no goal.
It was a nice goal, but Lindhal to me once again stands as a not so exceptional GK as she's often depicted by media.
In spite of the glowing commentary Naeher has not even made one good save. She has saved shots that any remotely competent goalkeeper should make. They were all VERY easy saves.
She forced the player marking her to try to play the ball instead of playing the attacking player that got the ball. Also she tried to play the ball and the ball was within playing distance. She just failed to get the touch she tried for. But it does not matter as the goal stands. I just think it was an incorrect call.
You cannot force action by mere presence. She neither kicked at it or attempted to head it. I don’t see how she attempted to play a ball that never got to her. I don’t think she was in playing distance, but we’ll have to agree to disagree on that
Naeher is a good goalkeeper. She is not and is not going to become a great goalkeeper like the US is used to.
Somehow that Heath goal has been ruled an own goal because Heath used too much power or something. ********. Heath is ok. She was stepped on. 22,418 ******** Sweden fans.
An own goal isn't usually called here, but I don't understand the commentators' confusion about that possibility for Heath's strike. It's like they haven't seen the shot was significantly deflected, and the initial shot may well have been technically off target. Nevertheless, Lindahl would have touched it had it not been deflected, so I would still give it to Heath.
