In 2007 I bought the tickets early and planned a cross country visit around the GC final. I am not as confident this year.

I bought mine right before the semis. Only some risk. Though my front door is only 0.8 miles from Soldier Field on foot.

Fun experience with the (I think) Fire ticket office.

"Hi, I'm calling about tickets for the Gold Cup Final"

    "Sorry, those are sold out"

"Oh I'm calling about tickets for the USA's supporter's section"

"Oh, ok, how many do you need"?

It was a sea of green walking to Soldier from the South Shore.

Hopefully he catches on at Anderlecht... so based on the club pedigree system that this board uses to determine a player's quality, he'll only need about 100 more appearances to reach the level of Sacha Kljestan

Surprisingly festive afterward though. Lots of good natured back and forth "USA" "Mexico" chanting out by the Field Museum. I had one guy offer to exchange jerseys with me. I only declined because I was a broke fresh out out college kid about to start grad school, and another 60 bucks to replace my jersey was more than I could afford.

I took the South Shore down after driving from Michigan. IIRC, the Gold Cup Final, the Crosstown Classic, and Pride parade were all the same day. Made for a fun train ride of people who'd all were trying to sober up on the way home.

Jamaica looks better than the US again. Honduras also looks better.

Are we talking 4-0 US wins or 4-0 Guyana wins?

If we could collapse Nagbe's ball control, Green's through-passing and Saief's speed with the ball into a single guy, we'd have an almost-decent player.

OK, so what happened to we expect to win?

As the defending champions and a traditionally successful team in the competition, the US are among the favorites.

Berhalter challenged that notion at the beginning of his press conference before his side’s opener against Guyana Tuesday (10 pm ET | FS1, UniMás, UDN, TSN 1/3, Fox Sports GO) at Allianz Field.

“I don’t think we’re favorites in this tournament,” he said.

Vegas has the line at US -4 and I got down a bit on Guyana covering. Even at 4 it pushes and I’d be shocked if we score 5. And I think Guyana may get one. I feel so good about this bet.

This reminds me so much of JK... all about accepting defeat before we even fight .....in the name of "managing the decline".
General Egg. Yours is to strive for Victory; Or what exactly are you leading the team for? Do you understand?

    That

I believe we easily beat #175 Guayana and #92 T&T. We may split with #75 Panama but I would be surprised. I believe we win the group. We have Weston, Pulisic, Altidore, and Steffen. MB90 will be good against the low block/low pressure approach offered by this group.

I worry about Jamaica in the QF or SF. Bailey is the real deal, Orgill will run our defense into the ground and their young striker who scored against us and and made Trapp look foolish is one to watch. Reminds me of a young Jozy, big, strong, with very quick skilled feet and a rocket of a shot.

Probably befuddlement over his inability to score at Saprissa or the US when playing for Costa Rica, or his 1 total goal all time when suiting up for Honduras in qualifiers against the U.S.

Eventually you have to score against quality teams in games that matter or the esteem you're held in will fall, and fall sharply. Wood, Dempsey, Donovan, Mathis, McBride (heck even Davies) et all all did so. Jozy, not so much (and that's being kind).

Saief is a much better passer, through-ball or otherwise, than Green.

Yikes. Saying we won't win the World Cup isn't the same as saying we won't win the Gold Cup...

    Agreed, 3G is a giant p***y though.

    Let me help.

    Jozy all time:

Goals vs Mexico in WC Qualifying: Zero
Goals vs Costa Rica in WC Qualifying: Zero
Goals vs Honduras in WC Qualifying: 1 (and of course at home, because nearly all his goals are scored at home, unless it's an island nation of 15,000 people)

    Goals In World Cups: Zero

Major Tournaments Missed: WC '14, Copa Centenario

Major Tournaments played in: Confederations Cup 2009, and WC '10 (and about 15 minutes of WC '14).

Goals Scored in Penultimate 2017 Debacle: 2 (1 in the run of play)

Games w/goals in the 2017 Hex Debacle: 1 game (of course at home) out of 9 with a goal (2, 1 a PK).

I'm okay w/Jozy being at the tournament, our forward situation is dire, especially with Sargent inexplicably sent home, but lets not kid ourselves with Jozy. He was ghastly in '17 Qualifying, and he has a well established track record of scoring at home, primarily against patsies, never scoring on the road unless it's against a Caribbean squad, and consistently getting injured at the worst possible times. I don't know why his career went like this. Early on he seemed ready for stardom, and didn't have these bizarre home and road splits in qualifiers, and tended to play big in big moments (See U20 WC vs Brazil, Confed Cup vs Spain, 2nd half vs Slovenia at WC '10), but trend seemed to vanish following the summer of 2010, and since then his goals have come in friendlies or in home matches against 2nd tier or worse sides in Concacaf, or on the road in the Caribbean. If you needed a goal against Mexico? Not gonna happen. A goal against Costa Rica? Not happening? A goal in the Copa Centenario? He's injured? A goal at WC '14? Yep, another soft tissue injury.

I don't know whose gonna score besides him or Pulisic in the Gold Cup against Mexico or Costa Rica, but I still don't regard the Gold Cup is a very relevant tournament anyway. He's young enough that it's possible he could do something w/this last gasp run for 2022, but I'd much rather turn the page to Sargent, Weah, Soto, and yes, even Wood (and Nova).Weve got 7 years of bad road when it comes to Altidore. I'd rather try something else, but yeah, when looking at this ghastly roster selection, he is the best forward of the miserable bunch.

Anybody hear if he had any interest in a call up? Or is this yet another example of fed/GGG stupidity?

It's an example of the latter. Wooten was eager to get a callup.
    https://www.socceramerica.com/publi...wooten-the-usas-hottest-forward-hopes-to.html

Germans figured he'd get called up.

Never made the 40-man. Because GGG is a moron. Tyler Boyd and Holmes make it, two steps forward. Ream, Gonzo, Mihailovic, Trapp, Roldan, Zardes, Morris all make it. 20 steps back.

I think, to be fair, a pile of crap looks better than us right now. The only way to see if we're better is to see us play. We shall see. On paper, we should be fine.

You’re right - all that club pedigree stuff is bunk. There’s not different levels of the game. A start in MLS is certainly equivalent to that in the B1 just like playing for duke hoops is the same as playing for the knicks!

The leading American scorer is Kiesewetter - bring him in since MLS is no different from USL.
