73' 0-0 France cross from arc top wide left to Le Sommer at box top 6-left, micro-flick header bounces across to 10m 1/4 right. Ebere kicks through Asseyi's left hamstring, rotates her backward and Asseyi lands flat on back. Foul, VAR check ... 75' 0-0 ... penalty, 2nd yellow card = red card on Ebere. 76' 0-0 Renard pk, stutter right instep pull off left post low beyond Nnadozie's dive (she guessed right), bounces outward over endline left. But 2nd VAR check ... It happened AGAIN!Wendie Renard misses a penalty for France but gets to retake it because Nnzadozie stepped off her line. #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/SL7T73LrC6— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 17, 2019 78' 0-0 ... Nnadozie took two steps off her line before the kick! Retake, yellow card on Nnadozie (by rule?). 79' 0-1 Renard pk, right instep chip into back right high, over Nnodozie's dive. Renard takes advantage of the second chance penalty and gives France the late lead! #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/sdys2TRqso— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 17, 2019
France wasn't scoring.....all Nigeria had to do was keep their cool and not make dumb mistakes. But that's what you get with inexperienced players I suppose.
I really don't like that they gave France a second shot at the PK. Looks like the Nigerian keeper had one foot on the line.
Seriously, Nigeria has been hard done by--like South Africa against Spain. I haven't seen a close shot, but it didn't look like the Nigerian keeper came forward very much at all--a small step? This bothers me because goalkeepers almost NEVER get called for that--it's incredibly rare. Now, they call it.
France and the US getting their behinds kissed by penalty kicks granted ... "once there is the chance you might sweat we will order relieve your majesty - yours truly FIFA"
I want France to win but I have to agree with you. They are looking rather poor so far in this tournament. Other teams such as England, USA, Germany or even Italy looked more promising.
I still think Nigeria goes through to the knockouts. Don't see the third place finishers from Groups D and F advancing.
The ref has to give a yellow card if she's going to call that, and according to the Laws, while I don't really like it, the ref had to call a retake. I don't know why a retake for Lloyd's wasn't awarded if Renard got to take this one again though.
In what way did the U.S. sweat? They didn't need a PK to win. Sorry, this argument doesn't fly. USA would've won their match regardless.
When did they start really enforcing these rules? I would expect in the 2-3 years leading up to the WWC, so teams and GK's can get accustomed to them.
84' 0-1 Nigeria subs in (1 of 3) #6 Evelyn Nwabuoku for #17 Francisca Ordega. 85' 0-1 Nigeria subs in (2 of 3) #7 Anam Imo for #8 Asisat Oshoala. 89' 0-1 France subs in (3 of 3) #8 Grace Geyoro for #17 Gaëtane Thiney. 90' 0-1 Nigeria subs in (3 of 3) #12 Uchenna Kanu for #9(c) Desire Oparanozie. +8'
I totally agree. They should've started calling these at least 2-3 years leading up to the WWC, so teams can prepare for it.
