Also, a late run into the box for a late header winner. That sounds at least somewhat similar to one of the Groenen goals this past season. She's capable of making that run and finishing there, but I won't push that point too much though since Roord deserves full credit there.

Yes, the Dutch need to be wary of the Cameroon counter. Cameroon has a talented winger who will make deep runs when they win the ball. Dekker, in particular, must be careful not to get caught forward. Hope to see a bit more precision in attack from the Dutch today, and get heads on some good crosses.

Everyone on the match-thread said that it should have been a direct Red. Ref seemed very bad to me: she quickly lost control of the game, thus the players do everything they want.
Referee has been terrible. Cameroon is a very physical team and their physicality is bothering the Dutch for sure. They're also a bit reckless. Playing 4 in the midfield would be nice but that would negate the Dutch wide game, which is their strength, and they need their outside backs to help the centerbacks against pacy teams like Cameroon. I thought Van Veenendaal was too late coming out on that Cameroon goal--she hesitated and you cannot hesitate. I also don't understand why their was no VAR offside review, since practically every other goal in the tourney involving a close offside has been reviewed, no? She looked a half stop offside to me--and yet no review. And earlier in the tournament we saw multiple goals overturned because of fingernails that were offside.
Congrats to Miedema who becomes the all time leading Dutch goal scorer with 60 goals at the tender age of 22. A well deserved and hard fought win over Cameroon who definitely made it tough on the ladies...a lot of physical play so just glad to come out of it with no injuries.
Yes, though apparently Van der Gragt, injured her knee (again) in the first match against New Zealand. I remember when it happened and she played on. Let's hope it is not serious enough to keep her out of the rest of the tournament, but she has really struggled with leg/knee problems. I hope the Dutch are working on finding/developing a couple of good, athletic young centerbacks, because they need them--and soon. Bloodworth is the team's best centerback--and that's not her normal club position.
got to say this was the game where Wiegmann should of rested majority of the starters, since you can't compete with an idiot referee that let Camaroon get away with such brute force(and in hindsight/a scouting report would of realize how physical CAM can be) Got to worry now how much this game took out of them
Fair point, but the Dutch had to get three points out of this. Now, Martens hardly impacted the match; so, maybe you could say with hindsight that she should have been rested. At least van de Donk and van de Sanden came out of the match fairly early.
I think we might see Beerensteyn start against Canada for either Martens or Van de Sanden, or at least play a half. That match could determine the group winner and thus I wonder if The Netherlands staff will consider who might be their first knockout-round opponent depending on whether they finish 1st or 2nd. The announcers mentioned who Group E winner and 2nd place team would play in knockout rounds but I can't remember--I think the winner might play 2nd (or 3rd) place team from Group D and maybe 2nd place would play 2nd place from the group the U.S. is in--which could be Sweden. I'd be ok playing Sweden, if I'm the Dutch.
I just feel like you're asking for trouble not trying your best to finish first in the group. I want the Dutch to finish first even if it may result in a tougher on paper matchup.
Yes, I'm sure they Dutch will play for the win. Canada will be another tough match, what with its defense and they've got some talent up front as well. I'm not sure if I heard right, but if the group E winner plays 2nd place team from Group D the opponent might be Japan. Don't quote me on that, though. The goal differential between The Netherlands and Canada is, at this moment, equal, what with Canada up 2-0. If Canada scores a third goal in the next 10 minutes they'll be up a goal in GD against the Dutch, which could be a factor should the two teams tie next match--then Canada would win the group. Let's hope for a 2-1 Netherlands win!
They probably imitate the Cameroun male team in a mild way (those are thugs and I've posted once after brutal (including "friendlies") matches I never ever want to play them again, unless it's a must as in a WC.

What's the next criterion for deciding the group winner--head to head, or total goals scored? Head to head leaves us again with a tie. Total goals scored would give The Netherlands the Group win, since the Dutch have scored 4 goals while Canada has 3. A group win would have The Netherlands playing Japan in its first knockout round match. Placing 2nd in the group would have the Dutch playing Sweden first. Either way, based on a post from Siberian Thunder, it would appear that The Netherlands and Canada would be on a favorable half of the bracket--one containing the aforementioned Sweden and Japan and also Germany, Italy, Scotland and one other team (maybe the enigmatic Brazilians). The other side of the bracket would have France, England, USA, Norway, Spain, China, the bruising Cameroonians and Australia. That would be the more difficult side, yes?
US looked good in their first two matches. Settling on a 4-3-3 with high pressure suits this team and as long as Ellis sticks with this plan they have to be favorites to win it all.
There were some odd posts by US fans wanting the USWNT to lose, preferably big time. Had something to do with the behaviour of the women concerning pay and selection style.
Such fans are firm in their beliefs that the USWNT players act as "entitled brats" who don't care enough about their fellow NWSL players. I personally feel using the plight of many NWSL players as a reason to hate/dislike the USWNT is crazy and not likely appreciated by a lot of those NWSL players. Maybe you don't like the USWNT pushing for equal pay, but I don't understand why quite a few people are so angered by it.
A number of U.S. fans don't like Ellis, don't think she's a good coach, despite her stellar record, partly because she makes some odd personnel decisions at times. She's done all kinds of odd, indecisive tinkering/changes at the outside back position, for example, putting players in that position who'd never played it before and frankly aren't very good at it--while failing to call up true outside backs who play in the NWSL. She kicked outside back Ali Krieger off the NT two years ago, when she was at 98 caps, because she wasn't more of an attacking threat--and then suddenly, out of the blue, decided to name her to the NT after Dunn and others were having some defensive problems and giving up goals. But in the end she puts a good squad on the field that wins. I still think the U.S. could get beat in this tourney, and it might be the mighty Dutch who do it! We'll see.
Well, they can point to the Dutch FA as an example to follow as the KNVB has announced the women will be put on a gradual track to equal pay fully in 2022.
