It's amazing the amount of trolling I've seen on Big Soccer in numerous threads regarding the US women's team. There's a whole bunch of jealousy going on here...
I think it’s bipolar disorder. For years we have been hearing about how the rest of the world has caught up to the USWNT.
No - we've been hearing that SOME of the world has caught up to USWNT. We probably need more than a Thailand beat-down to dispose of that notion.
But they are. The fact that they're ranked 13th or whatever is cute but they had a bad run of form in the World Cup and Nations League. They're still one of if not the best country in the world at developing soccer players. Germany beating Estonia 8-0 in Euro Qualifying is not the same as the US Women beating Thailand 13-0 at a World Cup.
Which is one of the reasons why the US women have it so easy. Other countries are misogynist regarding women playing soccer. That's a fact just like all the other things we've said are facts.
One of the things I love about the women's game is the lack of fakery. I hate the flopping about and screaming as if they had been shot in the men's game. Although, having played when I was young, I get it hurts like hell and I know exaggerating is a way to get the referee's attention, but in the men's game it's often overdone. A woman gets a broken toe, she barely seems to notice.
I know this here is probably something missed the US education or ignored by must pupil in it. The US is a country but the rest of the World is not one country and rarely act as one. The same is regarding to sports true for Europe so what you found about Athen may tell you about the state of WoSo in Greece but any wider interpretation of that says more about your than anything else. As for how they get their WNT i don't know but I think you yourself answered that. Most likely from the girls with passion enough to play in boys team (many of the current WWC players did) and the ones luckily enough to be close to the few girls teams that do exist. And Greece just isn't very good, they are 67 in the world which should be roughly 35 in UEFA and thus unlikely reaching the EUROS and even less the WWC until they improve considerably, so no that method is no longer cutting it (and looking at Greece history in WoSo do not really look like it ever did for them).
I noticed this in my time of coaching soccer. Boys would go down and stay down for fairly minor impacts and girls would play right through just about any hurt. That is they would if they did not see mommy or daddy on the sideline. I once was coaching a U 12 girls team and one of my players was always getting fouled and she just popped right up no matter what. Normally neither of her parents could attend matches because her daddy was deployed and her mom had a great paying job that overlapped normal match times. One day her dad was on leave and attended a match an at about 10 minutes in she got fouled HARD. (Studs to the thy) She went down and rubbed her thy for a few seconds and the bounced right up. Then she looked at the stands, saw her daddy and burst into tears and went down again. I was called onto the field and when I got to her she said with all the logic of an 11 year old, "My daddy saw that and looked like he thought I was hurt so I must be hurt but I don't really feel hurt." So girls will bounce up after knocks unless they see a parent acting worried. Note to parents: Never act like you think your little girl (or boy for that matter) is hurt and never ever rush onto the field to help unless called by a coach or other official. Kids are usually pretty easy to diagnose as to the severity of injury unless a parent helps.
Thailand did not look good at all, but it's kind of disrespectful to say they are amateurs and filled with rec players and your grandma could do better, like many are. They did beat Australia in qualifiers, and Australia is a country that beat us a year or two ago and drew us recently as well. We have steamrolled some solid European sides like Denmark, who were in the finals of the Euros. The US is not a good match up for these teams for whatever reason, but the US women's team is also VERY good and makes solid sides look like rec league soccer.
To be fair, they didn't, as much as I know. They just tied them 2-2 in the semifinals of AFC Asian Cup 2018 and then proceeded to lose the penalty shootout. I'll admit that a draw with goals is almost as incredible than a win, but a win it wasn't.
. Perhaps Millenium is thinking of the AFF tournament, which Australia sends its u20’s to and other nations sent the full team.
Yeah, today I noticed a Chile player take a pretty rough knee to ribs and basically just get on with it after being stung for a few moments. Most often in the men's game the same play would've led to a huge dramatic display where the guy rolls like a log and pounds the ground in agony.
It is said that if men had to give birth the human race would have died out millions of years ago or maybe never have come into existence at all. The women, except maybe Brazil , do not over exaggerate injury and rarely pretend to have been fouled. They just overall play a cleaner game.
I read or heard it somewhere, cannot recall the details now. If what you said it's true, that could be it.
You sure about this? I've been reading for years the international section on woso at this forum & the lack of foreign fans is appalling. Now with the WC going on, occasionally a new poster will write something like.......oh, so we got a womens team, well good luck........and never hear from them again. This even runs true even from some of the English speaking.countries So based on posts, Amercians are crazy about the wormens games as compared to others, and that is pretty much the main reason why we seem to be at the top that and are vast college soccer system, which keeps woso very popular compared the top Euro countries, where even if the pro rich clubs offer female soccer through academy style training, very few hang in there as whatever pro soccer. very very few get a decent enough salary. Hence only 3 out of France's 12 1st div. clubs pay full time salaries, Only two of Germany's does & even so, I've seen tweets for example from ultra rich Bayern Munich, where the foreign players are still living on BM's campus/dorms(there's only so far that an adult will want to live all their live in dorms. So until woso players around the world get paid more, the American college(where at least females get an education/learn a trade) is keeping us at #1
Well, I won't question what you say about English-speaking countries, but for all of the other countries you have to consider that this is an American-based website in English and that in some countries the intersection of people speaking a fluent English and willing to use it to express themselves on a daily basis with the subsection of women's football followers that are enough invested to write long posts about it is quite scarce. Add to that that most people right now prefer to communicate through new pervasive social networks as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and such, and you have the recipe for all of the missing people from these boards that you point out to. But I repeat, the primary problem is most probably the language: Italian or Japanese people wanting to talk about the WWC on the net will most probably look for social media in Italian or in Japanese.
To your point, there are 1,000 registered female soccer players in Thailand. How many ayso regions is that?
Same. I enjoy quality women's matches more than men's. For the reasons you name. Back in the dark ages, there was hardly any soccer on tv, but some outlet showed NCAA women's soccer and I was an avid fan. Knew the NC, and ND lineups by heart. And, my preference for the women's game has only grown as the men's game has gotten more and more into the simulation game and attempts to intimidate the ref.
Title IX's affect on the world is underrated. How many women at this WWC played or are playing for a U.S. college. People love to crap on the U.S. for being regressive, but Title IX changed the opportunity for women in sports in the world.
