'Russian top club formally prepares bid for Groningen tastemaker Doan' FC Groningen can look forward to an offer for Ritsu Doan soon. According to CoolJapan Soccer, various sources report that Spartak wants to continue with Moscow in the hunt for the twenty-year-old midfielder. The Russian top club should put more than eight million euros on the table for the Japanese international. Spartak may still have competition, including from its own country. CSKA Moscow, which previously saw a proposal being rejected, can also submit a new and improved offer to FC Groningen, writes the Japanese medium . Reportedly, Southampton and Shakhtar Donetsk also showed an interest in Doan. The seasonmaker of FC Groningen was good for five goals and three assists in 32 Eredivisie duels last season. He and the team of coach Danny Buijs qualified for the play-offs for European football, but Vitesse was too strong in that. Spartak Moscow is the number five of last season in the Russian Premjer League. The club therefore enters the preliminary rounds of the Europa League. CSKA finished one place higher and is already assured of participating in that tournament. https://www.voetbalprimeur.nl/nieuw...an-fc-groningen-verlangt-ruim-8-miljoen-.html ------ I'm still surprised the interest for him isn't as great as I thought he would be.
His bag form in 2019 will not make any decent top-5 league club interested in him. If it is was last year, or last winter when he was in excellent form, then surely he would have attract more interest, but after 6 months of accomplishing nothing, no one will knock Groningen door asking for his services.
Itakura scored a goal for Groningen in a friendly against Eredivisie team Emmen. This guy was a positive surprise at the Copa America and we need a strong player like him in the defensive midfield. He didn't play a single game last season but Japanese players who move to Europe in winter tend to struggle in their first seasons. Even Tomiyasu ended up playing only one game in his first season in Belgium after moving to there in January. I hope Itakura will earn a regular spot this season.
Doan scored in a friendly against Sparta Rotterdam. Both he and Itakura are starting. 2-2 at half-time.
It seems that Doan is eager to redeem himself after his lacklustre form since the beginning of 2019. As for Itakura, we all know that he can’t play as a CB in a 4-back formation, he can play on the side in a 3-back formation but not in the centre, and he can play as a defensive midfielder.

Expected more on Itakura but I guess he wasn't consistent. I'm saying this just becuase I noticed on the goal he starts it with a nice steal.
Actually a 6 is a good rating for a player. For a 7 or more you really had a good match, so Doan can be happy.
Well, that was one hell of a first half with on both sides a missed penalty and two red cards. Doan and his team mates had the upper hand until the red cards.
Doan to PSV ?
The same source reported today that Hirving Lozano to Napoli is a done deal. Ritsu Doan is lined-up as his replacement at PSV Eindhoven.
He looks quite sharp this season. He got many haters at the Asian Cup but I'm expecting a lot from him. He is physically strong and his defensive ability is underrated. His defensive stats was one of the bests in the league last season. Japan needs a player like him at the World Cup level which requires high intensity.
Both Doan and Itakura are starting as usual against Sugawara’s AZ Alkmaar who is starting on the bench.
Strange, Groningen earlier announced him in their starting line-ups on their twitter account. It seems like an excuse to not play and risked being injured ahead of a transfer (to PSV as some sources mentioned).
Wants to join PSV, PSV wants him too but the club has to find an agreement with Groningen. Doan wil graag naar PSV en PSV heeft interesse, het is nu aan de clubs https://t.co/eL0s0Q1q7W— Eindhovens Dagblad (@ED_Regio) August 19, 2019
According to Eindhovens Dagblad, Groningen’s asking price for Ritsu Doan is too high for PSV Eindhoven. Follow Football-Oranje on Twitter With Hirving Lozano set to sign for Napoli this week, PSV Eindhoven are on the lookout for a new attacker. Doan was reportedly top of their wishlist and the Japanese international confirmed on Sunday that talks were being held between Groningen and PSV. However, ED are reporting that PSV have been put off by Groningen’s asking price of €13 million. The Eindhoven club were looking to pay around €8 million for the 21-year-old midfielder. De Telegraaf reports that PSV could now turn their attentions to Stuttgart midfielder Nicolás González. football-oranje.com/groningen-scare-off-psv-with-doan-asking-price/
