I posted this in another thread, but since you are still going here, I thought it would fit here as well. And then there is this little inconvenient truth................................ Thailand Women's National Team beat Indonesia 13-0 in a friendly and Cambodia 11-0 in the AFF Women's Championship last year. Here is a link to the video. You can be the judge if Thailand celebrates appropriately for your liking. https://www.foxsportsasia.com/football/asian-football/aff-womens-championship/908757/thailand-vs-cambodia/
Well, if that's their message, they calculated weirdly, because almost no one who knows soccer and is disappointed with their antics has invoked anything like the "polite little girls" argument. I cannot imagine that watching that was actually fun for anyone who has played the game. Even the pretense of competition is preferable to that.
Your post is just as useless here as it was there, so I'll ask the same question: What bearing do different people in a vastly different situation have on this particular instance?
Well, I'm quite confident the U.S. women on the bench were watching and enjoyed it, and I *think* it's safe to say they "have played the game".
I've played in games like that. They suck. You just want it to be over with. Get a few goals and be done.
Wait - are you arguing that the U.S. women themselves weren't having fun? Is that your position? Bold.
I'm saying I wasn't having fun watching it, and I probably would have been mostly unenthused playing in it, wondering if we'd have any challenge at all (then worrying if this supremely uncompetitive game was going to ******** with the mentality of the team when an actual challenge presented itself). Alas, I've spent most of my 36ish years playing the game as a defender, and maybe it's that defenders are more prone to worrying about such things?
But before you were saying *anyone* who has played soccer could not have fun watching it. Not to belabor the obvious, but that's a lot more than just you. And yes *many* (maybe even most) others who have played soccer did not enjoy it. I acknowledge that. Will you acknowledge that many did?
I said I couldn't imagine it - that's a different thing. I mean, some people watch bum fights on YouTube. Of course. I just have a hard time UNDERSTANDING the idea of enjoying something that awful and uncompetitive. Just like I have a hard time understanding people watching bum fights, or people who enjoy snuff films, or watching an uncontested race heat, or any of a number of things.
I don't have the plumbing for that. On a different note, how is it "rude"? Surely, analogies are not "rude".
Don't be disingenuous. You equated everyone who disagrees with you with snuff film viewers. Be honest with yourself at least, that's despicable.
No, I explicitly did NOT do that, by way of analogy. Just as there are people who enjoy uncompetitive sporting events, there are people who enjoy watching uncontested race heats. That is an analogy, not an equation.
Do not worry about using analogies the only problem is that it goes well over many folks heads. At times on these and other boards I have tried to use hyperbole and that was a mistake. People here just do not get the higher forms of language usage. You are better off sticking with standard usage and even then people will misinterpret, misunderstand and misrepresent what has been said.
We don't talk like this in the women's forums. Although we disagree and sometimes vehemently, no one says that to other posters. Present a counter-argument not those insults at the poster.
But you chose *SNUFF* films and bum fights as your example. That's not "uncompetitive" that's sociopathic. He compared people who enjoyed the women's celebrations to snuff film viewers. That's *exactly how analogies work. Edit: Apparently it would be okay if I casually responded to you that I really like to debunk bad arguments on Big Soccer, much like I like to debunk the arguments of Nazis and pedophiles. Just an analogy?
It's an example of a thing some people enjoy that I cannot understand. The end. I'm sorry that you cannot process that in any way other than a personal insult. Analogies do not make equations. Pretty much!
It's sad that you can't admit your obvious intention with that comparison. Just another example of dishonest discourse in these Trumpian times.
So good to know that you are literally in my brain guaging my intent. Also good to know that you do not understand rhetorical devices in the context of a debate. I GUARANTEE you that this country's President doesn't understand analogies as used in an argument.
Wait, the games are not on TV in France if you don't have a ticket? That seems extremely bizarre unless they decided to incorporate the old NFL blackout rules...
Some posters on this thread have disrespected the Thai players, quite severely if you think about it.
