Fourth sub, broadcasting upgrades among US Open Cup changes for 2019 March 7, 2019, 1:49PM EST Charles Boehm
Round 1 starts May 7th, 84 teams total. Amateur: 22 USL League Two: 10 USL League One: 6 USL Championship: 25 MLS: 21
It will be down to 11 teams by the end of round 3, after which MLS joins. Which means that round 4 will have 5 MLS vs MLS matches. USL Championship joins in round 2, which means Hartford will need to win two matches for a chance to face off with the Revs.
Round 1 started with 10 games last night, another 9 on tap for tonight. MLS clubs join in round 4, beginning June 12th.
I'm just disappointed the Brooklyn Italians are not in the cup. I was looking forward to them playing the Revs, but some stugatz couldn't rig the draw right. I mean really, what kinda mamakuke doesn't believe the best draw any club can get is New England. Mike Burns is standin' around like a giaguice with his dick in his hand like, "oh, yaah, we should beat these lower division teams, no problem," and then BAM! He don't know what hit him! He's whinin' about a ref's call, boo-freakin'-hoo! He goes, "ya gotta be specific!" Be pacific?! My yass! If you don't shaddap, yaw gonna be swimmin in the Atlantic! Hey, I gotta go, my gabagool is ready!
USL Championship teams went 19-6 in round 2. So of the 22 teams advancing to round 3, only 3 of them are below the USL-C. USL-1, NPSL, and USASA have 1 team each. USL-2 went 6-4 in round 1, but 0-6 in round 2. Best round 2 match (name-wise) was: Orange County FC (NPSL) vs Orange County SC (USL-C) With the NPSL club pulling the upset in PKs. Round 3 will be played May 28-29. Key matchups (Revs most likely opponents): Hartford travels to Memphis, while Birmingham (Heaps/Soehn's club) travels to Louisville.
And we’re off! First up is the Northeast pool:New York Red Bulls (MLS) @NewYorkRedBulls will host New England Revolution (MLS) @NERevolution New York City FC (MLS) @NYCFC will host North Carolina FC (USLC) @NorthCarolinaFC #USOC2019— U.S. Open Cup (@opencup) May 30, 2019
So, 10 USL-C teams and 1 NSPL team (Paul Caligiuri's Orange County FC) will join 21 MLS teams in Round 4. Heaps and Soehn's Birmingham lost 1-0 to Louisville. Hartford lost 4-0 to Memphis
I mean, Louisville are good. So Birmingham playing them close in their 1st year of existence is kind of an achievement. Nice job Heaps! Hartford continues to be such a trainwreck that it feels like they really are a Revs affiliate (even though they couldnt even do that right)
Revs at Red Bulls will take place June 11th (a Tuesday night) at 7:30pm at Montclair State University Soccer Park, in NJ. The game will be on ESPN+. I'm happy that this is a Tuesday night, because a potential Game 7 for the Bruins is scheduled for Wednesday.
In his post-game interview, Teal Bunbury said: "We've got US Open Cup... that's something we are going to take very seriously."

be interesting to see how Da Bruce approaches this game. Most likely the only hardware they could win this year. All starters? Mix of starters and Bench players? All bench players? Somi sighting??? maybe Something like? .........................................Cropper Bye...................Farrell.....................Anibaba...........Jones ...........................Angking................Caldwell Buchanan.....................JF Caicedo....................Rennicks bench: Firmino Knighton Delemea heriveaux Somi Castillo Agudelo
No reason NOT to play your best available lineup. This isn't one of those Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday weeks.
I posted this on Twitter .. Arena's record in the USOC while with LA .. wasn't good. 1138182187721904133 is not a valid tweet id
Given the league break they absolutely should play whatever they see as their best 11 just to try and keep some momentum going. The goal should be to play this game to win, win it and have another game in the tournament before the league starts back up on the 26th. The last thing this team needs right now is a long break.
Weird choice to field only 10 players Considering the injuries at CB and general lack of defensive depth I wouldnt be surprised to see the same back line we have been seeing. As for the rest, I'd like to see Firmino get some minutes, and also see Rennicks played as a 2nd striker/#10 kind of role. Maybe get Angking in there on the wing.
