thats what happens when you hire a sht coach and you want to play a guy at RB that is trying to break out at a different position. Hes prolly like screw you Berhalter, im not playing next to that black hole Will Trapp Oh, and OMG my leg is killing me, im injured
Per CONCACAF: " In accordance with the Competition Regulations, the submitted rosters will serve as the basis for the final 23-player lists for each team. The final 23-player rosters will be announced by Concacaf the first week of June. After the official announcement, only injury-related changes will be allowed, up until 24 hours before each team’s first match and any injury replacements must come from the preliminary 40-player roster."
Wow, rumors are Adams is out on injury. Anyone can confirm that? If it verifies then I don’t see us getting out of the group stage.
The one advantage that a Cannon callup gives the squad is the option of shifting Lima to left back if Ream and Lovitz don't cut it. But Adams missing the tournament would be a disaster. Maybe Berhalter and Adams were watching the NBA Finals last night...
I Nancy Kerrigan'd him because I want to get Gregg fired ASAP so he's not another coach who sinks our World Cup chances. Of course it jeopardizes one of our key player's near future, but if you want to make an omelette you have to break a few legs.
Sorry, Gregg stays on for another two years because his Adams to RB experiment hasn't failed yet. Smooth move, bro.
Gregg's entire "system" is a botched experiment, which may play out the next few weeks without Tyler Adams and co. anywhere on the field. This report could soon follow with Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie departing camp due to "injury".
Rumor is it's a strained RB Leipzig. CP's Chelsea is dinged too so let's see how long he goes with team flounder. Coaches around the globe are bemused by the Berhalter experiment but only if one of their players isn't wasting time with him. MLS coaches have zero say in the matter.
I will say, the other logical player that Cannon could replace is Michael Bradley. He is currently recovering from an injury, after all. What if he's further behind in his recovery than expected?
No need to be so pissy. I was querying not why Pulisic came late - but why, now having arrived in camp, he was held out for the match. I might've understood if he wasn't starting, but I was surprised he wasn't on the bench. Similarly, my understanding was that while Adams will be in camp by the Guyana game, he will be held out until the T&T match. Which again, I think it's a bit surprising he won't even be a bench option in the first game. Berhalter's explanation was that Pulisic needed to be "built up", which is an expression I'm not familiar with and thought could use some more detail. I assume this is some sport-science principle - that players have to go through a multi-day course of training up before they can be allowed to play.
Creavalle out for Guyana... https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...ons-warren-creavalle-out-gold-cup-broken-foot
If Adams really is a "no show", I would suspect that he has some minor knock, and having seen that shit show we all did the other day, and hearing about the prospect of playing as a RB, he thought to himself: "I may as well let this heal and get back to full fitness". These guys are paid pros. Why would he risk $$ to be associated with that circus? Professional athletes need to make calculations about their careers. I bet he is hurt. Would it have kept him out of a club start? Who knows.
The fervency to employ Adams solely as a cm is almost a religion at this point. The guy had his best season in NY at right (wing)back in spite of being 17-18 years old. And the U.S. put together one of their best performances the last couple years when Adams played right (wing)back at Portugal. The goal should be to get the best and most functional xi on the field when factoring in alternatives, complements, ability fill roles, and the opponent. If playing Adams at right (wing)back is one of the things that achieves those goals, so be it. Team over individual. You'll enjoy the wins in the end. I'm just for using Adams at cm almost always in the current camp given the alternatives are Bradley and Trapp, and part of the reason he's utilizing him is to fit a strategy he shouldn't be using in the first place. That's part of the hand-wringing. But I see a lot of this sentiment regardless. If we had a prime Cameron right now, or someone like EPB proves to be that down the line, I'm employing them at the 6 to protect the back line and win balls. McKennie at the 8. Somebody at the 10 with more playmaking, i.e.: Lletget or Pomykal; when available. And Adams at right (wing)back often times. Adams likes to make box-to-box runs. So does McKennie. Why tether them or use 3 d-mids because you've pre-determined they both have to be cm's? Adams is actually good at multiple positions. Schalke played McKennie all over just because they had to. The alternative would be to play a diamond where he's r/lcm. I'm also open to that, dependent upon opponent, and tactic required. Another reason why Adams at right (wing)back should be seriously considered at times is it allows the most ambidextrous quality rb to transfer to lb and shore up a weak position. Otherwise they're compelled to play the likes of Ream and Lovitz. Are we enjoying their contributions? There's some truth in the saying: you're only as strong as your weakest link. Ideally I'd prefer to move Lima to lb. In his limited opportunities, he's always done well for the NT, imo.
No, he didn't. The rest of this post isn't worth considering when you're working from such an incorrect starting point.
I watched much of it. That was my assessment by the eye test. He improved at Leipzig, but I think it was true about his NY experience. Which is really saying something, considering he was younger. That he was a little better is also backed up by his Whoscored rating, which was slightly higher, in spite of coming off the bench once more. He had a better pass completion rate, 2 more goals, the same amount of assists, and twice as good of a rate beating players off the dribble; in spite of playing less minutes and being younger. You expect considerable growth from 17/18 to 18/19. And we certainly didn't see that in NY. It took at least leaving to Leipzig. That isn't my starting point. It's one of many parts of the argument. You're isolating part of the argument, which is somewhat subjective, and throwing the rest out, due to confirmation bias.
Regardless, I brought up that Portugal match in the other thread this afternoon, and Duke is right that the fury of Adams not playing CDM didn't exist when he was just a lowly MLS player.... Strangely enough he has only really played CDM in a normal formation (I don't count the SuperBunker against France for much) once IIRC. He was good but faded in the end against Italy and eventually was at fault for the goal that eventually lost the game in stoppage time.
This is what I don't understand. Like nobody's opinion matters because they didn't call for him to displace Trapp/Bradley when he was with NY. Then he dominates for a Champions League team, puts up the highest DM rating in the Bundesliga, and his transfer value skyrockets. Bud, we're not freaking full-time scouts here. Players improve, and then move up to better leagues, for better pay, purchased and played by people who make millions to make such decisions. Yes, unfortunately that's how many on an anonymous soccer message board evaluate talent. Like a previous poster said, there are probably USL players better than MLS guys. But it's not typical. Just like it's not typical a star Bundesliga DM is worse than Bradley/Trapp. btw - do you think, maybe, that RB Leipzig coaches and personnel were surprised at how good he was? I'd venture a guess they were, as there was no talk that he'd step right into a starting role. Apparently we cannot show a preference for Adams UNLESS we watched NYRB and knew he was a legit star when he was 18 years old.
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! You're hilarious! You know damn well that the post-match thread, even if it's a 12-0 win, will be filled with "Fck Egg", "Morales would have done better" and "Why the F is Tim Weah not on this team?" comments. Perhaps even a few "Since we won 12-0, Guyana must be part of the MLSUMUSSF conspiracy to make us look good, even though we totally sucked".
Adams is out with an injury. Cannon is his replacement. Well, there's always Copa America to watch instead.
WTF, I've had exactly that post queued up for more than two weeks. I need to you swear you did not hack my account.
Cannon in as an injury replacement is the only thing that I've seen confirmation on. Who is out due to injury has yet to be offered up.
