    Hey everyone,

So, we are finally here! Women's World Cup is beginning already this weekend so thought I would get our group game threads started up. Let's be critical, let's have analysis, but more importantly, let's root for our team to get back-to-back like the Germans did in 2003 and 2007. Here...we...gooooooooo!

So I suppose no-one of you US fans is going to post anything in the new shiny World Cup threads that were opened in the Women's International section of BigSoccer? Sniff..

Yeah I saw those threads and they inspired me to get the ball rolling early over in the US section. I'll probably be on the international threads the majority of the World Cup but I figured it made sense to create WWC threads for specifically the USWNT over here so individuals can debate strategy and such that wouldn't be appropriate for the international section.

I'm just happy to be in another world cup, following the commentary here. I wish our girls the best.

The field feels very tough this year, but I never would have predicted the last World Cup, in that fashion. So many nations feel on the cusp of breaking through...

But, any negativity I may feel will not manifest itself outside of my own thoughts. I am here to enjoy it all.

Remember, this is the last World Cup the US will participate in until presumably 2023. :/

Is this a shot at the USMNT's chances of going to Qatar in 2022? If so I don't disagree. Going forward for the USMNT I'm going to assume they're not going to qualify [except in 2026] so no matter what happens I'm guaranteed to never be disappointed.

Is it Tuesday yet? So cruel of them to make this game the very last match of the first round of the group stage...:(

I am really looking forward to Tuesday. There have been several (well two or three) really entertaining matches already in this WWC but there is literally nothing like watching the team you root for play their first match in a WWC, except, maybe, watching them win the final.

I have real questions/concerns about our goalkeeper position but I believe we are OK everywhere else and I doubt that any team we play in the group, except maybe Sweden, will test the keeper at all.

I do have abiding concern though: Does anyone know what color Rapinoe's hair will be this time out? I know it is not really about soccer but my granddaughters are actually arguing about it and I would like to establish a bit of peace over the next two days although how much peace you can get between eleven and thirteen year old sisters is VERY debatable. But, since when they visit they share a room and they will be visiting through the WWC, everyone will sleep better if at least one difference between them can be settled.

Pretty sure she'll still be sporting those lovely bubble-gum-colored locks.

I don't like Rapinoe's pink hair -- but perhaps it's a motivational thing for her.

If you have pink hair, people are going to notice what you do, good or bad. Rapinoe maybe figures the pink hair will motivate her to be better.

She did the same thing when she went blond, mop-top about 8 years ago -- before another WC. And she regained her position as a starter.

Or maybe, pop psychology aside, she just wants attention.....

Or maybe, she just wants a change.

I think she attracts enough attention as a player that we will notice if she plays well or not, so let's not spend time trying to analyze her motivation for a change in hair color.

I've seen Rapinoe play since when she was in college. She's a show-person, she has fun that way and most fans love it. In college I saw her kick a particularly spectacular goal, a volley into the top left from about 30 yards out. She ran to midfield, turned to the stands, and bowed with a big smile. It was fantastic. That's Megan!

Or maybe she’s an adult human who can wear her hair however she wants.

Overconfidence can be a killer. We need to learn from what has happened to Australia, Japan, Canada (too close) and some others. We need to go out if at all possible and effectively end the game within the first 20-30 minutes. We cannot let Thailand even have a sniff of possibly making the match close.

No more nice! I want to see the killer attitude we saw out of the '99ers,

Like I used to tell the girls I coached, "Knock 'em down fairly and visit 'em later in the hospital."

Well guys, we're almost here. I got my fresh and crispy Lloyd jersey in red away about 30 minutes ago and just in time for tomorrow. Still deciding on what watch party to attend tomorrow.

My concern of course is are we going to go the way of Australia, Japan, and even Canada as slightly underperforming under lower ranked nat'l teams or do we break out and score goals against Thailand and Chile and set an example and say ya... women's soccer is getting better but we're still not tying or winning by one goal. I think our team being offensively stronger but defensively weaker means we will theoretically score a lot of goals but become vulnerable when we get to a team that can expose our weaker defense.
