Revie and Clough were born within a couple of miles of each other. The North East has always been known as the Hot Bed of English Football. Moreso historically, but it still produces a disproportionate amount of players. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/12653538

In his late years, great peruvian centreback, Julio Meléndez, was playing at Juan Aurich and also was the trainer, in a mix role. Playing the peruvian tournament, after a discussion, the referee sent off Melendez, so, he went to the dressing room. Then a manager was in his searching. Hey!, go to the pitch. Melendez saw the refeere and the later said, what's happened? I'm here, to ask him, whom do you sent off, Melendez-player or Melendez-trainer. It was the trainer, said the referee. Then Melendez get back to join his 10 teammates in the pitch
Bizarre scene at under-17 level yesterday in a goalkeeper getting a red card during a penalty shoot-out. 996118013387522049 is not a valid tweet id The striker missed. The penalty got re-taken, outfield player in goal, and Ireland is out of the tournament. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_UEFA_European_Under-17_Championship

Yesterday Independiente and Santos played each other in the first leg of the Round of 16 in the Copa Libertadores. It marked the first time since the 1964 semifinals that the two clubs had met in Libertadores play. The record 54 year span surpassed the previous record that had been set earlier in this season's tournament when Alianza Lima and Boca Juniors met in the group stage, 52 years after their last Libertadores encounter in the 1966 First Round.
There are a total 21 World Cups in history. Italy won four World Cup. So there are four Italian captains. José Nasazzi, Dunga, Passarella, Bellini and Maradona are of Italian heritage as well. So 9 out 21 captains are of Italian heritage.
Estudiantes de La Plata won three straight Copa Liberatdores in the 1960's and 1970's. Two of the players from that namely Carlos Bilardo and Raúl Madero became physicians. We all knew about Bilardo's career after he finished playing. Madero became the team physician at Argentinos Juniors. He later followed Diego Maradona to Boca Juniors. In addition, Madero was the team physician for Argentina at both 1986 and 1990 World Cup Finals.
The player who back from dead's door. Guillermo Dannaher was an international player from Argentina at 1910s-1920s, usually a centreforward, he was ambidextrous, being able to played at the five forward positions. League topscorer at 1913 ad 1921. He liked a bohemian lifestyle, so after one of his crazy nights, his friends believed he was dead, due to the industrial quantities of alcohol he drank, he faded, so a funeral was made with friends and relatives offering the condolences to his widow. Then, someone noted that Dannaher move a finger, and then Dannaher came back and get out of his tomb by his own. There was on saturday night a football commentator who retired after 30 odd years. His last match was the MLS final, except that it is played at 2:00 midnight on Eurosport over here (NED + BEL + LUX receive the same Eurosport version, same commentating). https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Kramer_(presentator,_voetballer) This was his 'response': https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/a4mbwp/dutch_commentator_frank_kramer_spent_his_last_day/ Dutch @Eurosport_NL commentator finished his last ever match commentating MLS final by telling his life story and reciting poems during the match. When a goal was scored he said: "They shouldn't keep dong that while I'm telling my story." 😂😂😂😂 https://t.co/hIezr0g2ev— Reservoir Duck 🍉 (@DuckDaBlackSwan) December 10, 2018 Dutch Eurosport commentator Frank Kramer decided to not comment on the MLS Cup final, instead going on a 90-minute monologue with poetry, rants about the U.S., and reminiscing about his career. https://t.co/DZXvYLIe7a— Bruce Englehardt (@SounderBruce) December 10, 2018 If anyone speaks Dutch, here is Kramer the commentator apparently not bothering to call the game https://t.co/3Vb2cA5Aba— Wes Burdine (@MnNiceFC) December 10, 2018 It is already legendary television for the ages, something that will return in the various trivia books. Many have bothered to watch it integrally the following day. Kramer vs Kramer... https://sporza.be/nl/2018/12/09/opvallend-eurosport-frank-kramer-mls/ Don't confuse him with that other clown that's sometimes making the international news CNN laat goal van Rakitić met commentaar van Sierd de Vos zien. I never heard of Roman Neustädter until a few minutes ago. I am nt going in details about his background. Please look at his wik page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Neustädter Due to his heritage and birth, he was eligible to play for Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in international competitions. That is five national teams. I am curious if this is the record for most national team eligibility for any player. I knew that Roy Wegerle was eligible for the USA, South Africa, England and Germany. I cannot think of anyone more than 5 teams.
Cristano Ronaldo's grandparents moved to Perth when he was 5 years old. His mother decided to stay behind in Portugal while her parents and siblings left for the Downtown. https://www.trulyreds.com/20100311/cristiano-ronaldo-could-have-been-an-australian/ Meanwhile, Messi's parents also studied the idea of moving to Australia, but did not go through. https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/...w/news-story/d67855c97cb394b660abd768970d7989 So imagine Australia fielding Ronaldo and Messi together at the 2006 World Cup Finals alongside Australia's Golden Generations. Messi was 18 and CR7 was 21. I do not believe Ronaldo and/or Messi would be the same players if they grew up in Australia. Without the same soccer culture from Portugal and Argentina, their development might have gone through a different path. They might not be Ballon d'or level player, but they still have the same DNA to become extremely good footballers. Christian Vieri was fading quickly before the 2006 World Cup Finals when both Messi and Ronaldo emerged on the scene.
At least Messi.would have won an international title... the Asian Cup 2015. I'll bet he really "roos" that decision.
Useless but fascinating: Englishman Billy Butler scored the following number of goals in the successive seasons: 1927-28 5 goals 1928-29 6 goals 1929-30 7 goals 1930-31 8 goals 1931-32 9 goals 1932-33 10 goals Unfortunately he didn't manage 11 goals in the next season (only 4).
I never attended to a "what if team" for Australia 2006 because it would be just three Australian Croats adding to the original team. I ended up doing a blog team for CR7 and Messi. Basically, I selected Vieri, despite his injury. https://soccerfootballwhatever.blogspot.com/2019/05/ronaldo-and-messi-playing-together-for.html
In 1978, Northern Ireland played against Ireland for the first time since partition. Northern Ireland was managed by Danny Blanchflower. The Republic featured John Giles, Liam Brady and Frank Stapleton. Giles was their player/Manager. Interesting..... Pat Jennings (N.Ireland), Pat Rice (N.Ireland), Sammy Nelson (N.Ireland), Liam Brady (Ireland) and Frank Stapleton (Ireland) were club teammates with Arsenal.
Lothar van Gogh who was capped twice in 1907 for Holland. His father is a full cousin of Vincent Van Gogh.
Goalkeeper Anton Schumacher is better known as Toni Schumacher. He played for Koln in Germany in the 1960's. Goalkeeper Harald Schumacher is also known as Toni Schumacher. He played for Koln in the 1970's and 1980's. He was West Germany goalkeeper in the 1980's.
Rapid Wien won the 1941 German football championship. It is the only time where an Austrian team won the German champions. The Austrian clubs played in the championship after the Anschluss and before Germany's surrender in 1945. They beat Schalke 04 in the final. The final was held on 22 June 1941, the same day Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union in Operation Barbarossa. Schalke 04 was still leading 3-0 until the 60th minute. The Austrians scored 4 unanswered goal to win the title. Schalke 04 had won the previous two editions.
After spending 11 seasons with Man United, Denis Law joined Manchester City for the 1973-1974 season. Denis Law returned to Old Trafford at Manchester City's last game of the season. That season, Manchester United was in great decline.... they needed a result at the Manchester derby. They were in 21st position on 32 points, trailing Birmingham City by three at 19th. With two remaining games, Manchester United needed at least a draw against Manchester City and a Birmingham loss in order to stay up. But on the 81st minute, Law scored the back-heeled goal to give City a 1–0 lead but, thinking his goal might relegate United, Law did not celebrate the goal. He walked off the pitch with his head down as he was substituted. The pitch invasions forced the referee to abandon the game in the 85th minute. Results of the day's other matches meant that United were relegated whatever their result, but Law thought that his goal sent manchester United to the lower division after a 36 year stay in the top division. Law played two more matches before retiring from football in the 1974-1975 season before he retired on August, 1974. The goal was Law's second last goal.
Edited:I found out more about the two "Toni Schumacher" who played for Koln. Goalkeeper Harald Schumacher was also known as Toni Schumacher. He played for Koln between 1972 and 1987. He was the famous German goalkeeper starting at the World Cup Finals in 1982 and 1986. Anton Schumacher was a goalkeeper for Koln between 1960 and 1968. He was also known as "Toni Schumacher". He played with another "Harold", Haraldo Konopka around the same time. To avoid confusion, he earned the nickname "Toni", but would prove to be more confusing later in the club's history.
