One of the best, and maybe most underrated, US players of all-time announces this year will be his last. Thanks RunDMB.

Although DaMarcus Beasley played baseball and basketball, he was always most passionate about soccer, admiring Diego Maradona and watching film of French legend Michel Platini. When Beasley was 12 or 13, he said, he knew he wanted to play professionally." .... "He also is part of a key equation for coach Bruce Arena: How much will he rely on his most youthful players, Beasley and forward Landon Donovan, who bring what Beasley called "a fearless attitude" to the field? "I don't anticipate starting in the World Cup," said Beasley, who thought his chance to play in the sport's biggest showcase might not come until 2006. "I know my role. . . . Bruce brought me in to be aggressive, to get behind the defense in the later part of the game. "Everybody wants to start. But if I don't, I know I'll probably be first or second or third in the game. I'm getting a chance now and I'm going to take full advantage of it." Arena praised Beasley's play on both ends. "He's a real tough kid," the coach said. "He's on the ground a lot, but he gets up quick. "DaMarcus played like a man today. When you get a 19- or 20-year-old on the field at this level and they do well, that's encouraging."
Still remember that game when him and Donovan Played against figo and rui Costa in world cup and we won! Those are the good old times where we show heart and spirit.
Gave %110 every single time he hit the field, whether it was USMNT or club. Considerable success before you could get it on TV, but I'm sure you could find his exploits somewhere. Always loved him. Good Luck, DMB.
Yup, still the best u17 group with Donovan, convey, gooch, beckerman . I thought the program would make positive stride after that but who knew that we peaked right there.
Imagine how good Beasley's career would have been if four years in his prime, 2008 to 2012, weren't destroyed by injuries. Imagine how much better the U.S. would have been in those years if Beasley hadn't been damaged by so many injuries and poor form.
Thanks for the memories Beas. I agree he's one of our more underrated players. His club pedigree is pretty impressive, and his years at PSV are still a high bar for an American field player: league champs; champion's league semifinalist with Beas as the leading goal scorer. And wow do I feel old...
In a happier, alternate universe (or perhaps one called under current rule interpretations), his goal against Italy would've counted and we would've won. A career for the ages! Thanks for everything.
I am going to miss this man. He was an example for all young guys for so long. Never heard a bad thing about him on/off the field. Universally loved. Thanks RunDMB.
DMB, I remember when you were just breaking into the USMNT prior to the 2002 WC--and that magical tournament hooked me on soccer for life. I cannot believe how long ago that was now. Given that we are the same age, I have a ton of respect for your endurance and forbearance since I find it difficult to even play a full half without needing to sub out in my men's soccer league these days. You, sir, are a USMNT legend. Thanks for the memories!
The quintessential USMNT player: played with heart, selfless teammate, fast, athletic, willing, determined to push himself, raised the level of play in big games and fun! Thanks for the memories, Jitterbug.
I think his success at PSV never gets the credit it deserves. We talk like we suddenly have guys in Champions League and forget we already had a guy make a run to the Champions League semis while scoring 4 goals. Talented and hard working and a selfless team player. One of my all-time favorites.
I agree about PSV but back then there was no way to watch and pretty hard to even get info on how he was doing. If he was doing the same now we'd be going crazy.
When it seemed like his nat career was over, he jumped into the snow clasico at LB and had a major renaissance. His performances at left back under Klinsmann were so professional and competent. I really enjoyed his late career rebirth.
Tremendous respect for the way he handled his career for the past 20+ years. Young players need a role model? Beasley is it. Make the move when you need to and put in the work. Put his emphatic stamp on USMNT and clubs in MLS, Europe, and Mexico. Legend.
