WC 50 Brazilian Magazine O Globo Sportivo Pre tournament discussion of favorites Ranking Comment after the finals loss. The comment about Barbosa is amusing Here we go again with Uruguay 4x
The sources are available online btw: http://memoria.bn.br/hdb/periodico.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/hdb/maisacessados.aspx Type in "Sport" and you get a bunch of Brazilian newspapers. O Globo Sportivo is the best I found, but it sadly ends in 1952 http://dlib.coninet.it/bookreader.php?&c=1&f=11443&p=1#page/1/mode/2up The site doesn't work proberly for me using it the intended way, I need to change the number in the URL to get a different date. To get a different year google "coninet corriere dello sport 19XX" It starts in 1944 and ends in 1972 I think. 1958, 1963, 1965, 1967 seem to be missing. I tried to find stuff about "Grande Torino", but they seem like an afterthought and most headlines are about cycling. The first really big mention I found was after the plane crash. Maybe it's due to the newspaper affiliation, I'm not aware of the biases of the time. The founder of "Tuttosport" died in the Superga disaster alongside the team so that newspaper might have been the primary Torino news source. The layout of the newspaper in the 40s and 50s especially is pretty confusing and it's easy to miss stuff though.
WC1950 team wasn't shown properly (for me at least) Source is Brazilian The only surprise might be that Zizinho isn't even ranked 1st for his position. It's just one guy's opinion so take it with a grain of salt.
