Tom and Crazyhorse... I am sure that you are quite aware that 2022 recruits have 3.5 more years to mature and develop (or not) AND I am sure that you (and I) have great confidence that Mark can spot the intangibles that turn out to work so well for FSU's success in women's soccer! --And he has proven to be a patient recruiter biding his time to get the combination of players he needs for success. That said, Summer Denigan is unusual for Mark to recruit so early and she will have time to prove herself. She started out gangbusters as a U15 on the YNT, but then fell off the YNT radar about 9 months ago. She's been performing well in the DA this fall and spring. I wouldn't bet against Mark.
Your right, I cannot remember the last time we got a commitment for a high school freshmen, I'm sure we have before, but usually they are sophomores at least. I saw she is 5'0, so I hope she is a late bloomer. Thanks for the additional info Soccerhunter!
Just guessing, but I believe Mark was getting one in before the May 1 deadline for new recruiting rules, whereby Girls cannot be contacted before June 15 following their soph year.
up Crazyhorse asks if this is a joke and it may be, but I've seen such announcements a half dozen times or so over the years. As an example, four years ago there was an announcement in TDS that Notre Dame had a commitment from a player who what just entering 7th grade. It was up on TDS' website for about 5 days then quietly removed. There are two factors involved in these kinds events. First, the schools do not announce commitments until signing day, so any announcement before that date will have to come from the player, her family, her club, etc. I think that once in a great while a kid gets over enthusiastic or confused about a discussion with a college coach and announces to TDS that she will be playing for XXX school and such news takes the coach by surprise! The second factor is that at least until this past May 1st, coaches could talk to players of any age (and the "recruiting services" have for years recommended contacting coaches at schools that the player would like to attend by email, phone, or at club games.) The upshot of this past policy was that verbal agreements have been made but not announced. At some point the announcement is made if the family wants to cut down being called by other coaches. I suspect that some of the announcements made in the sophomore, or even freshman, may have been verbally agreed to months or years in advance of the announcement. Both of these factors might contribute to the announcement by this Kamryn player and it might be (1) a joke, (2) a misunderstanding of some interaction with a FSU coach, or (3) it might be true. Personally I'd rate these possibilities in order as about 50%, 45% and 5%. So given my previous observations of these kind of announcements, I suspect that this episode will quietly disappear.
Also, a new name I saw for 2019 is Alyssa Conarton. Sounders Women posted a tweet she would be joining Madrid and Pavlisko for their season.
https://www.canadasoccer.com/togeth...he-fifa-women-s-world-cup-france-2019-p162195 Congrats to Gabby Carle for making the WNT for Canada for this summer's World Cup. Interestingly enough, she's listed as a MFer. Too bad Casey didn't make it for US. Was it injury, or was she just first out?
Now that FSU softball has exited, we are in the black hole of women's sports at FSU. Hope baseball continues to do well, but I'm jonesing for some positive news at FSU Soccer. I'd like to see recruiting domestic studs pick up a bit. (Jaelin Howell, Malia Berkely) 2 top 25 players in each class (domestically) supplemented by a couple of international studs should do just fine. I was ecstatic to see Gabby make Canada's WNT, but shocked to see Zhao NOT make the Chinese WNT. They aren't considered an international heavy weight at this time, so them having a team that Zhao couldn't make surprises me. ps can't wait for August.
Deyna is in France, I really hope she is training, last year she came back from Russia out of form and it took till post season for her to get back to herself.
Let's hope so. Our first game last year was Aug 16. If it is the same/similar this year, we are literally 2 months away from practice starting. They started practice August the 1st last year. The schedule was announced June 13, so I guess that's our next big reveal.
Awesome slate of games! Should make for a fun season! Hopefully they carry over that growth across last season and continue to build.
Deyna just announced on Twitter she will be in France through the WWC helping cover the event with Telemundo. Great experience for her as this is what she wants to do after soccer, work in sports media.
