Since we're approaching the end of the season let's start fresh. A year ago we had the most abnormal transfer window and preseason in our history, so hopefully this one will be the complete opposite and we can balance the squad while upgrading quality and getting rid of dead weight.

Players like Jefferson, Andre Pinto and Petrovic are hopefully on their way out as they have been adequately replaced by Borja, Ilori and Doumbia respectively.

The main story this summer is certainly where Bruno Fernandes ends up. Today the papers are saying Hugo Viana (football director) is in Manchester meeting with Man City and Jorge Mendes to negotiate Bruno. But there are other massive clubs interested, such as PSG, Man United, Juventus, etc... a potential bidding war could be really beneficial for us in terms of squad building. Whats been worrying everyone is a rumoured clause Bruno has when he re-signed with us saying if a big club paid up 35M euros he would be let go (well below his actual 100M clause). So far no one has confirmed or denied the existence of said clause.

Rumour mill for Bruno Fernandes continues:

A Bola broke down the confusion over this 35M euro clause supposedly in his contract. They cite an official source from the club who says that the 35M "clause" was an edit to his contract when he re-signed with us, and it's not a clause which forces us to sell. If we reject a 35M bid for Bruno Fernandes, he has the right to receive 5M euros as an indemnization for not being sold. This was the reason he returned without having any actual salary increase. The same thing apparently applies to Acuna (if we reject 20M for him he has the right to an undisclosed fee).

Also O Jogo says that Man City is willing to include players in the deal. I hope not.

O Jogo also says that Wendel is only negotiable for 35M euros.

Daily Mail says City are willing to pay 50M + 1 or 2 players (i.e. Marlos Moreno whose been constantly on loan)

Unless its a proven talent we should demand money only.

Player swap deals have just been shit storms since that deadweight Nuno Coelho.

Plus who wants a 23 year old striker who's only ever scored one league goal in 4 years?

Taking Marlos Moreno off their hands is like paying them. Don't see why we need to do them a favour.

Sky Sports is reporting advanced negotiations with City to sell him for between 50-60M pounds (58.4 to 70M euros).

Looks like Viviano might be part of the team again next season. Also, Keizer has been impressed with Gelson Dala and he'll be in the squad for pre season. I hope the kid does well.

Doesn't hurt to give them a shot at preseason at least.

I agree. I'd give all the young guys a chance. I would like to see Joelson sometime maybe next season. A lot of hype with him.

Yes he's on loan to SPAL in Serie A.

O Jogo saying Vietto will sign with us. He's been set to sign for a long time now....

A Bola says Mathieu is considering staying another season.

A source from Man City said they are not interested in Bruno nor were they ever. So looks like this one may be dead. Of course there are other clubs interested including rivals Man United, who could be set for a revolution in their squad. I could also see Bruno having way more playing time at United, especially if Pogba actually leaves.

Are you serious? Lol. The talk for months is how Man City have been trying to get Bruno. Wow

Yeah it smells like another club (United?) made a higher bid and City now says they were never interested to save face.

Makes sense. Personally, I'd rather him go to United as i think he can get significant playing time rather than play for City and maybe rot on their bench.

Yeah there was talk they might sell Gundogan because he hasnt renewed his contract, but you would still have KDB, David Silva etc...

Man United is probably having another revolution after failing top 4 again, and Pogba is likely sold. Bruno could be a leader there and United will need to overpay to convince players to join them.

    Today's Rumour Mill:

RECORD: They're exclusively reporting that talks in Manchester with City directors in recent days was to hammer out a partnership between us and City where we would have our two scouting teams working together and share percentages of players signed through the joined scouting efforts. The partnership would not include us getting loaned players from City. Bruno Fernandes was not discussed. We'll see if this turns out to be true...

A BOLA: Vietto in Lisbon yesterday to complete a medical and will be announced on a 5 year deal after the Taça de Portugal final.

O JOGO: Mathieu open to staying on for another season with us.

    Today's rumour mill:

Record: Cover page says Varandas will not negotiate Bruno Fernandes for anything less than 70M euros. Says we've also given him a proposal to renew his contract.

Also mentions Eduardo from Belenenses could be a target for midfield.

A Bola: Varandas interested in bringing in Cedric Soares for RB.

O Jogo: Claims that the deal with City is on for 55M euros for Bruno plus potentially 1 or 2 players.

Mathieu said post game today that he would like to stay at SCP but it depends on the club? He's gonna be 36 and is class for us, but has obvious physical issues. Maybe with Neto as backup we can keep him on.

Looks like the Gelson transfer is confirmed - 15mil + 50% of Vietto

Not the best, but if Vietto plays like he did at Villareal, it could turn out to be a good deal. Portugals standard is much lower than Spains, he could tear the league up...

I like your optimism. However, I think this is a horrendous deal. Vietto has 9 goals in his last 54 appearances across 3 clubs. He's absolute trash. Sure, a change of scenery might suit him well, however, from what I understand, the deal for Gelson was $21 Million and we then purchased Vietto for $7.5 million for 50% of his pass.

That is atrocious value for Sporting. Just awful business. If this is how Varandas is transacting his players, he won't be around for a long time.

Official: Gelson sold for 22.5M euros. We have bought Vietto for 7.5M euros and Atletico holds on to 50% of his rights.

General feeling is no one is happy about this one. It's not the 20M euros + Vietto deal everyone was saying. Essentially we make 15M profit + 50% of Vietto. And I wouldn't be surprised if we don't even see that 15M entirely as we have to pay agents, etc... Personally I think we got shafted. Again shafted by Atletico, please for the love of god don't negotiate with them ever again.

I get we don't have a lot of negotiating power here, but i can't shake the feeling we could have done better. Lets just hope that Vietto becomes the next Jonas in our league. As for Gelson, he had a bright start at Monaco but I think he's diminished and is turning out to be kind of a flop so far outside of Portugal. Maybe down the road we'll look back and consider this a good deal, since he still has the same weaknesses he had with us (poor decisions, sometimes inconsistent).

Atletico can ******** off tbh. They’re basically set to make 25+ mil if they turn around and sell him all by taking advantage of our situation. Shady business imo
