Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya will take part in the preliminary round 2 and Al-Zawraa has a direct spot :) It probably has something to do with the lifting of the home ban + licensing workshops in Iraq.

Surely do. I was unhappy to watch them being removed from competition all these years. And I'd love to see best AFC Cup team to qualify to group stage, shame they aren't there directly.

And the new season kicked off today with guest winning all ties.

Al-Kuwait won 2-3 at Jordan's Al-Wehdat and qualified to second round, where they travel to Iran to face Zob Ahan next week. Zob Ahan is in relegation battle in Iran league, it should be interesting there.

In the East, Myanmar's Yangon won at Ceres in Philippines and travels to Thailand to face Chiangrai, while Persija Jakarta will face Newcastle Jets in Australia after defeating Home United 1-3.

    West
    Pakhtakor - Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya
    AGMK - Istiklol
    Saipa - Minerva Punjab
    Zob Ahan - Al-Kuwait

    East
    Perak - Kitchee
    Bangkok United - Ha Noi
    Chiangrai - Yangon
    Newcastle Jets - Persija

All matches will be played next Tuesday, winners progress to playoff (final) round.

Perak vs Kitchee tonight at 21:00. Kitchee coach Chu Chi-Kwong are concerned about the hot weather in Malaysia draining his players' energy. He acknowledged Perak is a fast paced team and they must play with great care.

I think the chances of either side winnning is about 50:50. I hope Kitchee wins and gets a re-match with Ulsan Hyundai.

It's a shame the format for this is so terrible for this tournament. The one game rounds with the home team always being the better one is never going to allow the smaller teams a chance to develop. Even the AFC Cup doesn't have this garbage

They are good in expanding literally every tournament except for the one that needs it most..

What's even more sad is that most of these games have been competitive. Who knows what Persija or Al Quwa or the others could have done on a level playing field. Instead, we'll the same 8 nations fielding 90% of the teams as always. Asia definitely has the worst champions league format by far.

Then which format you think the best for minnows team ?

Bangkok Utd lost to Hanoi, Perak got lucky to win against Kitchee. I think AFC want to make things quick. Enough with only 1 leg.

Home and Away legs for qualifying. And even if it's better for competitive reasons, I wouldn't mind if they stopped delegating 3-4 stops to the same few nations. They could easily cut 2 more spots or so in each region and give them. It's just far less enjoyable to watch when it's always Korea vs. Japan, Saudi vs. UAE etc.

Also only 1 away team won. Which is typically the norm. I honestly can't remember a time a team from Australia, Japan, Korea or Australia lost out on qualifying to a team not from one of those nations. Has that ever happened?

The AFC grant the higher ranked team/country the home game advantage. So the lower ranked team have to play away, too? That just plain bias. Maybe AFC should just disqualify the lower ranked team directly.

They don't want to go two legs because Korea, China and Japan are deep in their winters and still in pre-season. If they play away to warmer countries they might actually LOSE. They can't have that happen.

I would give top two leagues 3 direct spots, next two leagues 2 direct spots. As it is now. Those four leagues would then have one team each in qualifiers, but would play each other for two spots instead of hosting minnows. Countries ranked 5th and 6th would have one spot each. That's 12 direct entrants for group stage and two additional from top 4. Remaining two spots would be filled with champions from next best eight leagues where they would play two home-away rounds. So, basically, CL would have had two additional countries, top four countries would have had two less spots. Thai teams play pretty good for years now, Vietnamese and Hong Kong teams did well when they took part, I see no reason for Malay or Indonesian teams not to follow their footsteps.

Same would be for West too, but there were same five leagues for like 10 years now so we don't know how would other leagues be represented, we'll finally see a new team this year as Iraq will finally take part in.

And I would change spot allocation every year, it is stupid to have coefficient system changing every two years.

Before 2007, Each of this countries (Japan, Korea Rep, China, Thai, Indo, Vietnam) get 2 slots for ACL (East Region).

But since Aussies joining AFC, 2 slots been given to their clubs & others SEA clubs effected by this outcome.

Surprisingly since 2009 edition, Chinese, Korea & Japan got 4 slots each.

The point is, AFC must bring back their oldest allocation (max 2 slots) so that top clubs like Hanoi who trash other clubs 10-0 in AFC Cup get the chance to compete in ACL.

This year, there are 23 nations participated in AFC Cup but only 12 nations in ACL.

What the hell is up with the Iraqi's attacking Zob Ahan's players? Didn't Iranians build the stadium for you? Ungrateful ******

If IFF has any spine they will demand a full investigation and that none of Iran's games be played in Iraq, just like how the Saudis pull it off.

And for years, they having been complaining that why AFC and FIFA don’t give them the right to host their home matches. Well, maybe this is why, the fact there is no safe environment in Iraq when their fans behave this way towards visiting teams.

Awful behavior but look at Zob Ahan's nr 69. He provoked and this was the (shameful) reaction of some crazy fans. It has to be noted that Zawraa staff and players quickly reacted against those aggressors.

Please don't exaggerate. Incidents like this happen everywhere around the world and usually the home teams gets punished by a fine and some games behind closed doors. Didn't the same thing happen in Azadi in 2011 when Iraq played Iran in the Olympic qualifiers? And Karbala Stadium built by Iran??? :ROFLMAO: Source please.

Iraq is hosting matches since 2017 and it's going well so far. Apart from this game it has been going smooth :)

The official Instagram page of the Iraqi club Al-Zawraa posted this picture today , cheering Iraqi Hooligans attacking Iranian players and journalists, with a blatantly racist caption saying “The fist that strikes an Iranian, should be dipped in holy water!”.

Again, this is further proof that Iraq shouldn’t be allowed to host any home matches. Their fans who all suffer from various complexes, simply can not act civilized enough at their stadiums, and their violent conduct as seen here, is actually promoted by their officials and clubs!

This happened in 2011 in Azadi when Iraq beat Iran 2-0 in an Olympic qualifier.
By your logic Iran should've been banned from hosting matches, right?

Again, use your head and let the emotions aside. The behavior of those crazy fans is not justifiable by any means, but don't act like it happened out of nowhere. Milad clearly provoked by making a obscene gesture towards the fans.
