James is a traditional 10 at a time where the position is being killed off. That's why he's struggled to find a home. You can throw him on the wing but I for one have had enough of 10s as makeshift wingers .

If we get Bale, I'm quitting football again like last time for 10 years.

The only way we should go for Bale is if Madrid take Sanchez in a straight swap.

    Nah, not even then.

Italian Press reporting that Sanchez’s agent has been in talks with Inter regarding his transfer there. Let the cleansing begin!

I’d be surprised if that happens with how much he would have to drop his salary. Or maybe were interested in a loan to buy where we eat some salary.

De Ligt is a must for us. Pair him with Lindelof.

I am okay Phelan as DoF if he brings in Rene as an assistant to Ole.

Inter and Serie A in general don't have that kind of money. unless Sánchez has resigned himself to a move regardless of the salary drop

We’d probably work our a remainder of his salary in the deal.

If you look on Twitter, a lot of the ITK guys surrounding City have all at once backtracked and said City actually isnt interested in him. Some have been pretty open about it and are saying that insiders at Sporting have been leaking bullshit to try and get bigger teams interested in him. I guess the other option could be that another club beat them out and they are trying to save face.

I dug a little deeper on Fernandes and even though hes being talked up as flavor of the month right now, a lot of people ITK on Portguese football seem to think he isn't good enough for Europe's top clubs (not that we are that at all).

Have you got any links to those ITKs? I can understand if they think he's not better than De Bruyne & David Silva, for example, and I've not been able to watch a full match to see an entire performance from him. But not good enough for Europe's top clubs? Especially given that a lot of the top clubs have needs at 10/8 and he has 48 G+A in 50?

If Sporting are willing to take between 50-60mil for him, I'd go for him. Obviously don't get to watch Portuguese football at all and my exposure to him is in the way of highlights, but what I like about him is his dynamism and creativity, 2 traits we desperately need in attack.
He's definitely not the solution to our RW problem though: he's either a potential candidate to replace Pogba if he goes or to take Lingard's place when we play in a setup where our forwards need support (such a 4-4-2 with diamond mid or even a 3-5-2).
His stature and the fact that he starred in the Portuguese league is by no means a guarantee he'd make it in England, but for the right fee, then why not.[/quote]

Another plus in Fernandes's favor and I've touched on this before, is just his output and numbers. 31 goals, paired with 17 assists in 50 appearances is just impressive.
And while I understand that the likelihood he would match those numbers in the Premiership, given how hapless how attack has looked as of late, it's hard to see that type of goal contribution and not think it's something we could most definitely use.
Like any player brought in from "weaker" leagues and 5'8 to boot, there is a measure of risk. But at the same time, he appears to be quality (with a winning mentality also according to reports) and that is what we need to add to our team, as much as we can going forward.

Did you stand next to him and measure him yourself?
By most accounts, he's between 5'7 and 5'8 and under 140lbs. And even if he were 5'10, the bottom line is that "small in stature" clearly means that he's simply does not look overly strong. Height has nothing to do with it: guys like Sanchez or Aguero just to name those 2 are short guys, but they can handle the physicality of the Prem because they're stocky and are clearly strong individuals.
My concern with Fernandes and that looking to be on the smaller side, he could be end up being pushed around and that could be an issue (not enough to make me turn him away completely though) ...

From the official Sporting CP website:

And I could do the same for the word stature, and how it literally means height, if you like?
