Making good use of his time during stoppage of play. Seems reasonable to me.

The EPL is crazy rough. Play is also faster than the players themselves can often handle. This is part of my theory ;) for why England doesn't generally do well in the WC

The EPL was always brawn over brains but with the arrival of many of the top continental managers that has finally changed. It's nice to see some actual tactics used.

Can't believe he's lost his starting spot to Manquillo.

That's not good. I wonder if he's on the outs.

Probably just keeping things unchanged from a good sway win last week.

The Spanish duo Manquillo-Perez on the right is working fine, and the South American pair Rondon-Almiron up front are having a good game too. Guess Rafa has gone for a Spanish/Latin flavor at this point, in which case it makes sense to sit DeAndre.

Unless there's some undisclosed injury or personal issue, it does look like Dre's being shown the door.

Toon actually have something to play for the last few weeks: they're currently sitting 12th in the table, with a good chance of ending the season 11th and an outside shot of finishing 10th. There's a lot of league prize money to be won/not won for a club, depending where they end up in the table.

That Crystal Palace PK kicked him to the bench, and if Perez keeps scoring like that with Yedlin on the bench, DY is not seeing the field again soon. Almost looked like another NUFC collapse late, but good to see them hold on to this one.

He just posted a picture post surgery so I think the haters can stop saying that he's been dropped from the starting lineup due to performance.

Shown the door? Even if he lost his starting spot, any EPL team will want to go 2 deep. It’s a long way to being shown the door with no indication he is other than a solid pro with a proven ability to contribute in the league.

He does have a spot to win back, though.

You do know the difference in prize money from 12th to 10th is roughly 4 mill right... that’s insignificant to them.

Well, he may have been benched because he already was feeling problems with his groin, but in general a player sitting on the bench and part of the 18 is considered to be fit, just not in form to get the start.

In other words, whatever the status post-surgery, he was already benched before it.

Saturday the said he was out due to injury. Surprised he's had surgery already though. That was fast.

They’re safe, they can only move up or down 1 spot, presumably it got worse last week. This is probably something they’ve been watching for a few weeks so may as well get recovery started.

What makes you think 4 mill is insignificant to them? How insignificant? Like a penny that they can just throw away?
