Honest question, when's the last time we bought a player that was an outright success?

I don't think we've had a really good transfer since RVP. Ibra did what was expected, but everyone else has either been up-and-down (Herrera, Shaw, Pogba, Martial, etc.) or outright failures (Falcao, ADM, Rojo, Schneiderlin, etc.). How have we spent so much money since SAF left and not had one homerun signing?

It is an embarassing list for a guy who has reportedly spent £744M over 12 transfer windows.

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/alletransfers/verein/985

    18/19 - Fred (53m), Dalot(20m), Grant(1.5m)

    17/18 - Lukaku (76m), Matic (53m), Lindelof (32m), Sanchez (31m)

    16/17 - Pogba (95m), Mikhi (38m), Bailly (34m), Ibra (free)

    15/16 - Martial (54m), Schneiderlin (32m), Depay (31m), Darmian (16m), Schweini (8m), Romero (free)

    14/15 - Di Maria (68m), Shaw (34m), Herrera (32m), Rojo (18m), Blind (16m), Falcao (7m loan), Savic (1.6m), Kellet (loan)

    13/14 - Mata (49m), Fellaini (29m)

The warning signs were there when he picked up Fellaini for 29m when he could have signed him for 23m under his release clause a few weeks earlier.

No great bargains there for such a legendary "businessman" according to some here :)

Pogba wants out and will push for a move.

    http://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-t...or-manchester-united-exit-this-summer-sources

Not surprising in the least, in the wake of us not making top 4 and no CL next year. Pogs (just like Dave I would venture) is not going to take part in another rebuild. Of course, Real face one themselves, but it's a solid bet it will be much swifter and decisive than United's.
Don't want to see him go, but keeping a player against his wishes is no solution either. Being still somewhat in control, we can demand a good fee (150mil Pounds minimum) and it's got to be cash (no BS with rejects such as Bale, Navas, J-Rod or others of that ilk included).

Ducker from the Telegraph running with this story as well.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...ush-real-madrid-move-first-manchester-united/

Real have all this money to burn on transfers allegedly: to hell with them trying to get Pogs on the cheap. It never fails with them, always trying to fist us somehow, someway at every turn, in any kind of deal with us.
We saw it with Ron, them trying to pawn off their crap surplus or when we show interest in one of their players, all of a sudden the price is completely unreasonable (Morata). They can pay full freight this time around...

Bruno Fernandes would have been an adequate replacement for Pogba, but that appears to be out the window with rumors of a deal with City being reportedly complete (or close to it)
Van de Beek would be another player who would be an excellent replacement as well, but it stands to reason that not being in the CL next season, not sure how attractive we would be to him (especially after the campaign he's currently experiencing). Wouldn't hurt though to sound him and Ajax out though to gauge any potential interest..
As previously stated, Pogba leaving will be massive in terms of the effect it will have on our summer plans and how they have will have to be seriously revised, in all likelihood.

Why do all the hot prospects go to City?? I thought the United brand was more powerful than that.

I guess you really can't blame players for taking the easy route.

Pogba needs to be sold. We need to rebuild from scratch and its clear hes no the guy to build around as he doesnt even want to be here. And he's not professional enough to put in a shift despite wanting out.

So we sell for 125 mil minimum, reinvest immediately into rebuilding our midfield, adding a RW, some decent fullbacks, and a starting CB. And we pray Ole figures shit out.

Buy first and hold out for what we ask from Madrid. They clearly want him. That way we don’t get raked over the coals once he’s sold like Barca and Neymar.

Much of what you desire; we have.

We could possibly selling Bale, James, Kovacic, Ceballos, Llorente, Isco, Reguilon and Raul de Tomas.

If I were you guys I'd negotiate a straight fee for Pogba, then use that to attempt to negotiate for Llorente, James and maybe Isco.

Llorente is actually pretty good DM who could play deep and allow Fred to partner James in midfield. Put Isco in the hole in front of them with Lukaku partnering Martial or Rashford.

If your coach is as good as you guys believe he is that's not so bad a front six.

You quoted the wrong guy in terms of thinking our coach is good. I've been pretty vocal in saying his hiring was a big mistake and that his early results were mostly because of the post Jose spike. But I digress...

Of those guys you mentioned, I would be interested in Isco, maybe James, and maybe Kovacic. It would all depend on fee and the formation/style Ole wants to play. The problem with dealing with your lot on another transfer would be if we hols out on a high fee for Pogba you guys will feel inclined to rake us over the goals for anyone we want. It just gets messy.

Also, while there's no doubt you guys have a lot more talent, there are better fits for what we need than the guys you want to sell. Kovacic hasn't looked great for Chelsea, James still operates best as a traditional 10 which is a dying position, and Isco I'm still not sure where's his best position is, though I think he's a huge talent (and isn't he a Zidane favorite?).

There are loose rumors at this time that de Ligt has rejected a move to United. The club reportedly made a 60mil Pound offer with wages of 250k/wk.
As expected unfortunately, some top caliber players will not be available to us. Considering they have great alternatives open to them already. The ones with whom money matters most, or who have some link or affinity with United, we might have a chance on those.

If we get someone like Maguire, let alone pay a record breaking fee for him, I may just lose it. Among Leicester players I would go after, he's at best #4 on the list after: Ndidi, Tielemans and Ricardo Pereira.
Putting that aside, there are other players, in other positions we could reasonably justify paying record fees for but not someone nicknamed Slabhead.

What is our club record for a defender? Rio still? Or is it Lindelof with the add-ons?

Bale yes, James is still pretty good depending on what formation we use next season. However I doubt he would wanna play for a team with no champions league.
