Perhaps his WC form engendered a crisis of confidence which is slowly & steadily eroding his form. If this is so, benching him would not be the right response. Surely gk coaches know how to deal with this situation.

You don't think man management is important or just not warranted here?

I just think this is a situation that could use finesse.

Ok, let's go with your "drop whoever isn't in form" plan. That would mean Rashford, Martial, Lukaku, Jesse, Pogba, Matic, Young, all CBs not named Lindelof, and DDG all dropped.

    Who's going to play?

As long as we're listing his recent errors I'd also mention that the save he made from Antonio's header against West Ham was absolutely critical in us getting the 3 points and a save not many other keepers in the world make (Romero not among them). If you ask me who give us the best chance on Sunday I still say De Gea even with the recent mistakes. A run of bad form happens to everyone, but as they say, form is temporary, and with a player as good as DDG bad form usually departs pretty quickly.

    Just not warranted here.

Too many errors to ignore. Bad errors. Not just mistakes.

I know most have given up, but there is still a chance for top 4. But not if he gives up 2 goals a game.

As long as we have a viable alternative to go with, as is the case here with Romero, I have absolutely no problem any player who is not only lacking form but in a way costing the team points as well.
The problem with the vast majority of guys you've named above is that their replacements are as bad or even worse than those guys...
At the end of the day, Ole is sticking with Dave for Sunday, so obviously I'll be rooting for him and hoping he's back to his normal or close to it: that would still be more than enough for us.

Well there is enough blame to go around. But from the coaching staff aspect we are handling this poorly.

Ddg has to shoulder blame too but we insist on being slow on the up take on most things.

I'm putting failing grades on both ddg and ogs here.

Given our opponents for the next two games - sit Dave aside, have a chat, and shut him down for the season.

I know he made a mistake against Chelsea; but at the end of the day, even knowing how it turned out, I'd still go back and start Dave all over again.

It comes down to I don't trust our defense to not allow a knife-edge chance that only Dave can save. Especially in a big game. I think the chance of us allowing such a chance that only Dave can save is higher than the chance of Dave making a mistake.

All around the club we are in shitty positions with players. If it's not poor/inconsistent performance, it's off the field contract issues, or in some cases both.

The Spanish contingent is apparently angry as a whole because they feel they are being treated worse. The French members look typically French in that they don't give Le ********. The English boys just aren't performing well enough.

Our upper management structure is in disarray, or at the very least they are misguided and misrepresented.

I'm really hoping for a very clarifying May/June. There's no other direction for the club to take than to make important clarifying decisions in a few aspects very early on.

You blame Ole for the dropped points yesterday?

Despite all the crap we've been through, if we won yesterday, wed be in a decent position to get 4th. Yes the team is shit a f we wouldnt make noise in the CL, but the financial implications...

You and a few others wanted to put an arm around DDG(despite all his errors) because of all he's done for us. Didnt want to piss him off. That's a load of rubbish. This is football.

It's ultimately about protecting Dave from himself at this point. He can't put one foot in front of the other at the moment (for reasons only he really knows). And benching him in what would appear to be 2 largely inconsequential games at this point, is not punishment and thus something he should be upset about. That's how you "coddle" him, not by continuously putting him in the line of fire
Shut him down for the remainder of the season, let him go on vacay early, relax, get his mind right but also sort his contract out. And then come back in July, in top form ready to take on the new season.
There is a precedent of sorts with this kind of situation under van Gaal, as previously stated: when he was in limbo and not performing optimally because of the Real rumors, van Gaal benched him then. And he still end up signing a long contract after that, when he didn't really have to then. This is the example we need to look back to and that Ole should emulate. There is absolutely no point in playing him, not when there is a solid replacement available in Romero (a luxury we don't have at other positions btw)..

It's more than just not wanting to piss him off. It about managing for next season and beyond. Some situations require finesse and I think this is one of those times. His caliber is high enough to do that. He is more struggling mentally in my mind. So you do what I can to reach him

I would not do the same for pp as I think it is more attitude and desire which I would not molly coddle

So then if you still believe this, that means you still wouldn't drop him if there's a chance a 4th?

I don't believe top four is essential to our climbing out of this hell hole. That being said I would not sabotage it. If we get it great but a mentally engaged ddg is more critical to the forward momentum than top four cl ball next year.

I can believe a large group of United fans think we should sell DDG and pay the buyout on Oblak. I swear we have the dumbest fan base in existence.

Make of that what you will. Certainly do not want neither him or Pogba to leave but I'm really concerned now that we could lose both of them if we fail to qualify for the CL.
PSG are also said to be ready to offer him an ungodly amount of money as well to come over: 450k Pounds/wk is the sum being bandied about.

Which is lame enough as he has had his hand in the team not qualifying, if ultimately that is what happens. For shame.

Well, the UCL position is now clear - widely reported today we have said to Dave he needs to agree new contract by end of next week or we will likely sell him rather than let his contract run down.

As poor as he's been for us lately, I don't relish coming up against him in the future.

At this point I don't relish going up against a pub team much less one with ddg in goal.

Frans Hoek (United's goalkeeping coach in the van Gaal years) on Dave:

“I worked with him for two years at Manchester United and I must say he’s at a really high level. It’s not easy to play three games a week as is demanded in England and maintain a high level. Particularly when anyone can beat anyone there. But he does it.
“That’s why it’s unusual to see him make mistakes at international level. De Gea could play for Barcelona or Manchester City because playing with his feet is among his many qualities.”

Always maintained that Hoek has been a big miss for Dave. That's when he was as complete a goalkeeper there is in the game and it's no coincidence that since he left, that's when his kicking game and distribution became progressively worse to what it has become today.
Whether it's at United (we can only hope) or elsewhere, that is something he will need to put the focus back into, to once again be the dominant goalkeeper we've known him to be.
