This is pretty comical (sort of) in hindsight... http://www.espn.co.uk/football/uefa...one-super-special-preparation-for-messi-coach Still maintain that one of Ole's tasks after this season would be to find a new goalkeeping coach. Not sure I'm convinced by Alvarez at all at this juncture.

I think it's time Ole seriously considers dropping Dave for the Chelsea game. Hate saying this, but it's clear he's been seriously below par as of late. Whether he's having a bad run of form or his head is not in it at the moment, he's simply not the same player and keeper we've known and he's letting goals in he wouldn't, under normal circumstances. Romero is a capable deputy and would be my choice between the sticks for this coming game at the very least.
What is wrong with De Gea? https://www.skysports.com/football/...m-whats-up-with-manchester-uniteds-goalkeeper
Romero is probably one of the best 2nd choice goalies in the league. He needs to start for the remaining games.
and how its gonna benefit us in long term ?? Yes he is having a bad form atm doesn't mean i forget how valuable he has been for over last 5 yrs..
I think dropping Dave, after his performances for the past five years, would again be a bad look for the club. Yeah, he's been poor lately, but he's still been our only consistent WC performer the past five seasons.
No one is forgetting how crucial he's been for us in that time and I'm pretty confident that the consensus is still for him to sign a new deal and remain at the club for the foreseeable future. But the bottom line is that for now, his form is simply very poor: he's cost us goals and has conceded very soft goals. We're not talking just one or two games here. I'm still not convinced he needs to be dropped for our remaining 3 games, but for the Chelsea one at the very least, I'd consider making the change. Romero is a more than capable replacement. That argument is stupid tbh: he still hasn't signed a new contract when clearly the offers have been there. He's not playing well to boot. He's been given some leeway but something needs to be done, even if it's just for one game.
He has under performed consistently over a series of matches. Don't care who you are, if you can't perform, you don't start. That's just the nature of the game. You can't rest on your past laurels. I mean, do you have some kind of formula on how long players should be chosen based on past performance? Will you excuse this kind of performance from DDG over an entire season based on his performances in the last 5 seasons?
His performance levels have dropped but the way you guys are making it out it seems like he has been below par all season which aint true..
He did at the start of the 2015-16 season, right prior to the infamous Real fax machine fiasco. He then end up signing a new contract shortly after. But van Gaal didn't feel his head was in the right place at the time and publicly said as much and that he wouldn't be available for selection until his future was sorted. There is nothing that says that he has to keep on playing now, especially when his form is as bad as it's been since he's been with United.
Some really, really dumb suggestions here... What would be gain by dropping DDG? There's a slight chance Romero plays better in the remaining games? But probably not. What do we have to lose by dropping DDG? He gets pissed, refuses a new contract, and our only world class player asks to leave this summer and compounds all our problems. So....yeah.
So we're supposed to cater to him regardless of form, because we're afraid to piss him off? That's the sort of mentality that partly got us to where we are, with the players thinking they can do whatever they want and run the show. Van Gaal showed some balls and even if it ended up because of a fluke, Dave end up staying and putting pen to paper on a new contract. Romero has shown plenty of times in his time at United that he's an adept backup, one of the best there is. On Dave's current form, the odds that Romero would be better are higher than "slightly".
If you take off the blinders, it's not hard to see that Dave has been in terrible form by his own high standards. That's 3 matches on the trot minimum (going back to Barca at the Camp Nou) where we can point to him directly, conceding very soft or savable goals in each and every one of them. Nobody is calling for us to get rid of him, but he needs to be benched so he can get his mind right. It's really not that complicated to understand. Just because he's referred to as a god by some, doesn't mean he should be treated different from any other player in the same situation.
Some players should be treated differently. he is one as he is not a cancer and he is not lusting after a move away. I agree with @Ashur that he should be sat down but agree also with @MizzouMUFC that we run the risk of pissing him off. so it comes down to approach. put an arm around his shoulder and say sit out hte rest of the season while you work things out. early start to the end of season. see you back preseason refreshed and ready to go. he is one that should be coddled especially since he is not pining for a move away (i dont think he is)
His poor form that was displayed during the WC where he had a few howlers and questionable moments carried over into this season.
Dave's poor form from the WC carried over to a certain extent to this season, as it definitely was not his best season, yet he's still been decent enough. Until recently that is where his form dipped even further. In current form. he's nowhere near the top keepers in the league, let alone the game, as he's been in recent years.
Players should be treated differently? Coddle DDG? He has not signed a contract. I don't see how allowing him to continue ********ing us over, is supposed to make him play better or resign a new contract. Or you think Woodward is going to cave after all these mistakes, and offer him want he wants?
Ole has made his decision regarding Dave and will not drop him. Let's hope this marks a return to form for him. He's better than what we've seen lately and we simply need him to be close to his best in this final stretch.
Do the people who want Dave dropped also want Pogba dropped? That'd make sense to me, at least with consistency of opinion. But if we're dropping a big name to make a statement and get people focuseh, then I think de Gea is the wrong one.
