Jorah Mormont and Lyanna Mormont are first cousins. He was the only child of Jeor Mormont, who at the time was head of House Mormont on Bear Island. Jeor Mormont abdicated and joined the Nights Watch leaving Jorah as the head. He was forced to flee so his aunt became Lady of Bear Island. Jeor's sister (Jorah's aunt) was named Maege Mormont, she was Lady of Bear Island and had a few kids, one of her children was Lyanna. Maege and her sons died fighting for House Stark so Lyanna became head of House Mormont.
I thought Jeor abdicated because of Jorah's actions (selling slaves to afford an expensive lifestyle for an ungrateful wife) and that's how he came to join the Night's Watch.
I thought he did it so his son could take over, and once he did he couldn't keep up with the lifestyle his wife wanted so he sold some illegal trappers into slavery, and that's when his issues started.
Jorah is her uncle. Maege Mormont was her mother, and Dacey Mormont her older sister (and at one point the heir to Bear Island). Dacey died at the Red Wedding. Though I'm pretty sure that Dacey never featured in the show, not even as a background character/extra. I might be misremembering though.
I could be wrong. I haven't read the novels in a number of years. And perhaps the series deviated from the books in this issue and maybe that's what I'm misremembering.
You might be right. It's a while since I've read the books. In my memory Maege and Jorah were siblings but she might have been his aunt.
So episode 2 was essentially the "Rio Bravo" episode. Here's hoping the eventual pay-off is better than it was in that western.
All the palace intrigue currently playing out at Winterfell could very well turn that battle into an every man for himself situation. Whoever survives will probably make it back to King's Landing just in time for Cersei's Tony Montana moment. I would sleep well at night if it was Tyrion riding Drogon that ended her.
This was really 1 hell of an episode. Lots of screentime for everyone. It's still mindboggling that they can even imagine another battle considering the Night King is coming. It's the end of the world.
I was thinking more Lord of The Rings (Part 2?) before the battle. Best scene in this episode was the giant tit story.
BTW, we saw a glimpse of Ghost, which was definitely a long time ago. I can't recall the last episode he was featured in prior to this one?
I don't understand why some people are arguing that Bran should have given Jaime a harder time for having pushed him out of the tower. Bran has stated many times that he is no longer truly Brandon Stark but rather the Three-Eyed Raven. As such, considering he is mostly devoting his life to saving the entire universe, what may have happened to a boy years ago would not matter much to him. In that sense, the Bran who repeated the words Jaime spoke right before pushing Bran out of the window was likely the small part of Bran that is still Bran and not the Three-Eyed Raven. I think any suggestion that he is still the boy he once was should have been put out to pasture after that Meera scene (in which she was incredulous at his cold goodbye and even said "My brother died for you!").
I think it's easy to underestimate just how much time has passed in this whole thing. Though it still felt a little pervy watching Arya get laid....
Based on twitter and assorted social media, you weren't the only one feeling that way. The actress playing her is 22 and supposedly the character is no longer a minor either (I have no idea how old everyone is supposed to be at this stage of the show). I'm kind of in the camp of those viewers who think that she might have had one of the least problematic sex scenes in the entire show. Which is probably not wrong, considering several of the competition include incest.
However one might feel about the Arya-Gendry scene, at least the showrunners put the groundwork in for that many season ago. But where the ******** is this Theon-and-Sansa-making-eyes nonsense suddenly coming from?
So who do you guys think won't make it in the Battle against the Night King and the White Walkers and Wights? My predictions are: Almost certainly won't make it Brienne - I believe they gave her this much attention and built her up to this extent to make her death more shocking in episode three Jorah Mormont - I wasn't sure of this before the Dany and Sam scenes but now I'm leaning in this direction Beric Dondarion - Not sure what role he has left to play in the story at this point Probably/possibly gone too Grey Worm Tormund Giantsbane The Hound Podrick Payne Gendry (I doubted if I should put him in this category or the category above and the only thing he has going for him at this point is the idea that him and Arya have to fulfill the old Robert Baratheon wish of a Stark daughter marrying a Baratheon son) Theon Greyjoy Unlikely but not impossible Arya Davos Varys Definitely will survive this battle Jon Snow Daenerys Targaryen Tyrion Lannister Jaime Lannister Sansa Stark Bran Stark Samwell Tarly (I like the idea of him being the narrator of this story in some epilogue) Better ********ing survive or I'll be very pissed off Lyanna Mormont
Same here; no clue. I didn't even notice his appearance. I guess I need to re-watch I was happy we got dialogue between the 2 Mormonts. I had saw someone pondering whether they'd have a scene together.
I definitely felt that way...the sideboob I wish we had gotten a scene of Jon and her before this or her and Sansa. Or simply all 4 remaining Stark kids. It's the night before the battle, surely they'd like a group huddle. Or saying something like Jon is king in the North because Bran is a cripple and no longer wants it. Something that is explaining it all so to speak.
It was in season 5 when she needed his help and he was too afraid. Season 6 he brought her to safety. She was devastated that he wouldn't return to Winterfell with her. It's weird that she's making those eyes at him and him returning the favor. But I kinda read it as she is still thankful for him rescuing her and she feeling sympathy for his situation.
He was in the background when Sam and Jon were talking up on the battlements, when Sam asked if Jon had dropped the "you are my aunt" truth bomb on Dany yet.
