Seeing as the 2019 season has started..............might as well have an IN-Season player movement rumor/discussion thread.
Whitecaps apparently getting Iraqi international Ali Adnan from Udinese on a 3 month loan. At least this will solve the LB issue for a few months. #Iraq international Ali Adnan has interrupted his #Atalanta loan from parent club #Udinese to join #MLS club the Vancouver #WhitecapsFC https://t.co/G96wxTI1tr #SerieA #VWFC pic.twitter.com/h0ECrrsgNc— Football Italia (@footballitalia) March 8, 2019
There is some talk that Heber Araujo dos Santos, a Brazilian playing for 1st division Rijeka in Croatia, is headed to NYC. The guy is a 27 year old striker, who has done pretty well in the scoring department the last 2 seasons in Rijeka. Supposedly is in London (or headed there) for a physical (with CFG).
Yes. Also, something overlooked from this weekend: should say "have heard whispers" not reports...— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) March 16, 2019
Wouldn't surprise me at all if that rumor is true. Nikolic is no longer getting it done for them, which is true across the board. But if they move him NOW, I am not sure what problem it solves. They better have a replacement lined up.
Wonder if that would piss Gaitan off at all? They couldn't give him a DP deal this year since they didn't have a DP slot. He is going to be a DP next year if they exercise his option but I could imagine being a little salty if they "lowballed" me due to rules and then within a month turned around and freed up a spot and paid someone big bucks. Course they could also be putting Sapong up top. They have way too many internationals even without Gaitan on the roster yet (they have 9 slots, which are all filled, with 2 players on loan and Gaitan coming in). That would alleviate some of the international problems plus free up some of the congestion in the front 3 in that midfield. Djordje, Katai, Frankowski, Gaitan, and Sapong are all there right now fighting for starting spots with Martinez and Herbers fighting for the bench spots. Lot of wasted roster space there. Now, I'm not saying they should put Sapong up top as a replacement, just that roster compliance wise it works better than lining up an international replacement.
No Pity in Atlanta? Reports out of Atlanta saying that Pity Martinez isn’t liking living in the US and is blaming that for his poor perfirmance so far. Could be a short stay if that is true.
https://soundcloud.com/comeonyoureds/come-on-you-reds-podcast-episode-158 Bill Manning and Ali Curtis goes into details about how TFC secured Pozuelo from Genk. If you're a MLS nerd and wants to get an insight of how FOs work
Brad Friedel stepping up with the most Brad Friedel transfer rumo(u)r I can imagine. https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2019/0...t-ham-return-carroll-linked-with-new-england/ Friedel definitely spells rumor with a U.
I think Brad needs to go in the same category as Mastroeni. Brilliant players, horrible horrible managers. But their level of play shouldn't be obscured by their (lack of) management careers. And go Rovers!
Sounds like the Revs were willing to go big and it didn't work out: Confirmed through league source: #NERevs agreed to €4m ($4.5m) fee with Standard for Paul-José M’Poku for immediate transfer before close of window, but move broke down over personal terms. Total package (fee and wages) approached $14m. #MLS https://t.co/1nijuWY4Yx— Kyle McCarthy (@kylejmccarthy) May 7, 2019 I personally think that is a little much for a player that hasn't exactly put up great numbers over the past several years. 8g/5a this year and 5g/5a in 17/18 are ok but I don't think worth 14 million total. Croizet put up 3g/4a in 16/17 and 9g/4a in 15/16 but has a total of 3g/3a in MLS. Now, they play different positions and I haven't seen Mpoku play so maybe his style fits MLS better than Croizet's does. But I think 14 million can get you a better player than that.
From me and @samstejskal: Multiple sources say the Colorado Rapids are set to acquire #USMNT winger Jonathan Lewis from #NYCFC for a substantial haul of allocation money.— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) May 7, 2019 Would be great to see Lewis go somewhere where he can get regular playing time. Also would add some punch to the Rapids attack. Not sure it does much for the defense, though.
Sounders are reportedly bolstering their defense by signing Ecuadorian CB Xavier Arreaga and former Sounder LB Joevin Jones. I am told Xavier Arreaga will be flying towards Seattle tomorrow morning and could be officially presented on Thursday. We'll wait for official word from #SoundersFC.— Niko Moreno (@ELROLONW) May 7, 2019 It's been reported in Germany, I can now confirm: The Seattle Sounders are bringing back Joevin Jones. Deal is done, pending ITC. More details on the transfer fee and his roster status @TheAthleticSCCR. https://t.co/kEi2BQ6sqh— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) May 7, 2019 Personally, I was hoping they would add another midfield playmaker, or another forward. But they have been rather leaky the last few weeks...
https://www.soundersfc.com/post/201...y-haul-adding-xavier-arreaga-and-joevin-jones It's official for both Arreaga and Jones. Arreaga will officially be a DP. I assume he can be bought down if needed. There is talk that this may be Marshalls last year.
BTW, by way of clarification from the #Sounders, Arreaga is a DP who can be bought down with TAM. Does not affect the @SoundersFC's ability to bring in another DP in the summer window. #MLS https://t.co/ewvcYexIz0— Miki Turner (@turneresq) May 8, 2019 confirmed that Arreaga is tamable.
In the last day there have been rumors that the Rapids traded $500K of funny money to NYCFC for Jonathan Lewis and that we've traded Benny Feilhaber to KC for Abdul Rwatubyaye and a draft pick. The latter at least has been somewhat confirmed by KC writers and Benny tweeting he was getting on a plain this morning to a fountain (KC is the city of fountains). Essentially these would both be throwing in the towel on the 2019 season before the winter transfer window closed. As I told @Knave we're already toast, so it makes sense, but I'm not sure I've seen a team be so obvious about it this early in a season.
