    Horvath's distribution is... not great.

Almost ALL of the new players brought into the March camp showed that they were overloaded with details in a short time and were thinking too much. A lot of instructions were constantly being shouted from the sidelines.

Horvath did not look comfortable but I still want to see him on the GC roster

Horvath will absolutely be on the GC roster. Even with his nerves on the national team side I feel like he is better than anyone other than Steffen right now. Steffen #1, Horvath #2, anyone's guess #3. #3 could be Johnson, Gonzales, Hamid, Guzan. I could see bringing in one and then switching after group stages like last GC.

Yep, I think Steffen has won the #1 spot at this point by a small margin. Playing him six games at the Gold cup would almost make him automatically eligible for a work permit. I'd give Horvath a shot for the next year after the GC and have Steffen focus on his club career. I think we want to get each these two as much experience as we can before 2022.

I'd bring in Johnson since he's been in every camp so far this year. Then again, bringing him in (and missing several MLS games) to ride the bench might piss off NYCFC. Though that could be said for Gonzalez, Guzan and Hamid as well. All too good to be no.3 and just riding the bench.

It makes sense, but probably unfair to hear if you were Horvath. I'd think he would at least get the 3rd group stage match.

I'd be pretty happy to get a full year to show I was the #1. I'd much rather have a long run than one off games. It is much easier to get into a rhythm.

Okay, but what I mean is that I get Steffen seems to be the #1 and needs games to get the work permit. But it's the disadvantage of Horvath whose strong play in 5 months shows he deserves a strong chance at the Gold Cup.

I didnt watch closely against Chile. How did Horvath play? I think both have a lot of potential but Steffen has a much better record playing for the USMNT.

OK, give him a shot at the GC and pick a #1 from there. I personally would rather have a full year than a couple games in this silly regional tournament.

Maybe it's a miscommunication. Some are saying Horvath needs caps to get the work permit (and as such, will start all the matches). That makes sense, but I'm saying from Horvath's perspective; that would be unfair if he isn't given a chance to compete to be the starter at the tournament.

I suggested Steffen should get the tournament. I also suggested he should step aside and let Horvath have a run for a year, like he got in 2018. I thought it was a win-win-win.

Only one guy plays and in my experience, rotating GKs doesnt do either keeper and the team any good. In the scenario I suggested, Steffen should be brought back in for the second half of 2020 and a #1 should be established for qualifying in 2021.

I'd let them both split duties in 2021 to ensure a real competition. Need to have the no.3 capable of filling in as well.

Can we retire Guzan? I'd rather Johnson/Hamid/Gonzalez competing for that role.

The competition happened in 19/20. There is no need to keep splitting duties. Pick the #1 and get the #2 a few matches. This is a much better dynamic than rotating them.

Why can't those guys just prove they are clearly better than Guzan?

if only they are given a fair shot.

Guzan is on the downside of his useful life and it's only going to get worse. Between Steffan and Horvath we have two decent candidates for the top spot with guys like Johnson and Hamid waiting in the wings. Guzan brings nothing to the table as he's not good enough to beat out the top guys and he's too old to be one for the future, waiting in the wings.

He brings experience at a position where experience is the most important. He would a very good third string behind the young guys

Maybe Johnson can win a spot, but Hamid isnt international quality. We are in big trouble if he is playing for us. I dont understand why people keep pushing his name when he remains the same flawed GK he has always been. He would lose us games which is something you never want from a GK.

I just figure third goalie never plays so maybe a young guy, get him around the team. I'm not sure what Guzan brings, although I guess he could be a good off the field guy to help the new pair. Don't really know. I think if 2022 rolls around and Guzan has to take the field, my guess is we'd be in some significant trouble.

This is what I think. Why keep Guzan if he never plays? Throw it to a Johnson or Gonzalez. Plus, we should be implementing a new shift (physically and mentally) and ole boy Guzan doesn't cut it IMO

I had a premonition you'd be here. Yes, Bill let in 3 goals, but the midfield & defense played awful and left him out to dry yesterday. Without him the score would have been 7 (or 8) - 0.

He was poor on all four goals. Making a PK save doesnt make up for poor positioning and not being set for shots. This game just highlights that his fundamentals let him down when put under pressure.

Guzan was average at this level and on the downside of his career, but would trust him much more than the unpredictable Hamid. You cant count on Hamid and we cant afford that in our GK.
