This is litigation. The way the system works, each side presents facts and arguments in a way that is most favorable to it. That's the "adversarial system of justice," which is what the US has. Other countries have different systems. So, to criticize either side for doing that is not a good criticism. They're doing exactly what they're supposed to do.
Well that's the point, isn't it. You're assuming that I think the lawsuit is somehow right or fair or equitable, and it isn't.
Does every lawsuit have merit? Is every disreputable strategy suddenly to be applauded? The women are, as some posters have noted, throwing mud at USSF, knowing full well that USSF can't respond in kind. I think I am within my rights to say that I'm not particularly enamored of that behavior. By the way, did I give you the impression that I am unfamiliar with "litigation" and the "adversarial system of justice?" Litigation is an exceptional remedy, really, particuarly when one negotiated the contract complained of only two years before, and will do so again only two years hence.
There wasn't a fault in my post. You're assuming that I didn't know something which was quite obvious, which, as another poster pointed out in a likewise unneeded fashion, is that we have an adversarial system. The content of my post (among other things) was to point out the USWNT's unreliability as a source of information and more generally to criticize the lawsuit. Your post, evidently, was to say that lawsuits are a pursuit of advantage and that spin is well-ensconced in the traditions surrounding such lawsuits. Even in a lawsuit, mudslinging isn't always an advisable strategy.
Not that there's a direct correlation between USWNT and CWNT, but CSA reaches a compensation deal with CWNT. Interesting that CWNT chose to sign a deal with CSA now, instead of waiting for USWNT vs USSF outcome. There has been a bit of press about equality in soccer in Canada also. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/canada-soccer-womens-national-team-compensation-1.5076810
I don't know why they would wait. One doesn't affect the other, and the outcome is months, if not years, away.

Buying a bunch of LUNA bars tonight to thank them for their desire to make things easier for our girls.
Are they still filing under the Equal Pay Act? IMO that is a losing argument. Men's and women's sports are not the kind of jobs the Act was designed to protect. Not the same product, working conditions, etc. The equal pay act refers to fungible work - accountants, lawyers, doctors, line workers, etc. working for the same organization with the same title/experience, under the same conditions producing the same work product should get equal pay (of course). Not only that, but it sets a crazy precedent that would mean the death of women's teams affiliated with men's teams and possibly women's professional sports in general. Very few owners are going to be willing to pay male and female athletes the same until the economics of women's sport improve. I do think they have an argument based on the nature of the federation as a non-profit and their revenue streams being higher. We'll see.
Some info on the terms of the current CBA from Caitlin Murray's new book "The National Team": -USSF has some group image rights but the players have exclusive control of licensing rights; USSF pays the team $350,000 annually for rights to commercial uses (e.g. advertisements for sponsor) -number of contracts dropped to 20 in 2017 (from 24), and drops by one each year until it hits 16 in 2021 -friendly win bonus increased from $1350 to $5250-$8500 (depends on opponent) -non-contract players get $3500 per game (goes up to $3750 after 2021...closer to $5000 of MNT's); contract players do not get the game appearance fee because their base salary is now $100,000 (unclear if this is just Tier 1 or if there are even still tiers?) -22 WNT players will be allocated at all times throughout this CBA (until 2021), which indicates players are forced to stay in NWSL but also that some non-contract WNT players are still allocated; NWSL allocated salaries increased to $62500-$67500 (by tier) and have a $2500 annual increase -turf fields for games are not banned but must be inspected by federation and players can request photographs fo the field and a report on its condition; players can also offer input on venue selection -10 game victory tour is no more! The players felt they had outgrown the need for a victory tour and want to now prioritize club play and agreed to a 4-game post-tournament victory tour only to be held within FIFA windows --USSF asked for and received a player ID camp every January for floaters or new players; during the winter, the veteran players are given a 6-week annual rest period (This must have changed a bit because veteran players are definitely still being called into the January camps.)
NONO NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO And just what in the H. am I going to do in the late Summer and Fall?? D*mn it, D*mn it, D*mn it. What's next, outlawing Birthday observances?!?!? Thus guaranteeing an annual barren, soulless, lifeless period. Simultaneously, look for the number of Medically Induced Comas to sky-rocket.
US Soccer claims that women's team player get paid less "for legitimate business reasons and not for any discriminatory or other unlawful purpose".: http://www.espn.com/espnw/sports/article/26688639/us-soccer-denies-uswnt-discrimination-claim Commentary: https://sports.yahoo.com/us-soccer-...res-to-fight-against-equal-pay-060521786.html

Lighten up, Francis. You can see your favorite WWC players playing real games in the NWSL until October 7.
Unless they decide to not play to promote their new book...or just because they don't feel like it I'm not bitter....
Latest series of events in the case have mostly to do with Solo (see Bank's twitter feed for more info): As I mentioned last month, one possible reason for USSF and the USWNT to pursue voluntary mediation post-WWC was to avoid combining the case with Hope Solo's separate suit. Today, Solo's lawyers filed a motion suggesting that they were worried about that 1/ https://t.co/UhdRFeXsSZ— Steven Bank (@ProfBank) July 23, 2019 Solo's attorney, Rich Nichols, also filed an affidavit claiming that counsel for both USSF and USWNT gave him the cold shoulder on details about the mediation, leading him to believe USSF/USWNT are in the process of settling the lawsuit (to the detriment of Solo) pic.twitter.com/8rDTWouiHv— Steven Bank (@ProfBank) July 23, 2019 The big takeaway from the back-and-forth on the USWNT pay equity dispute is that Hope Solo's contention (in her motion to intervene in their mediation) that the USWNT players are on the brink of caving in to USSF may not be well-founded https://t.co/3F7tzPldp7— Steven Bank (@ProfBank) July 29, 2019 Solo has filed a motion for Rule 11 sanctions against the USWNT attorneys. If it wasn't ugly before, it is now and, oddly, it may be worse between Solo and the players than it is between either of them and USSF— Steven Bank (@ProfBank) July 30, 2019 Cordeiro also wrote an open letter to sponsors and fans, which was needed because the players are currently winning the case in the public eye: https://www.ussoccer.com/governance...pen-letter-july-29-2019-finding-common-ground
1st: I do not believe that Solo has any standing in the lawsuit brought by the USWNT players. She has her own lawsuit in place for her perceived "unjust" firing. (Banning?) 2nd: Everyone must remember that the actual "law" wording has little meaning in civil cases. It has quite little in criminal cases but in civil cases ti is really virtually meaningless. The law is always what a bunch of lawyers say it is. In fact, often it is not even lawyers that make the real decisions but rather it is the rich. That is not necessarily bad because if the rich act in true favor of their "enlightened self interest" then you rarely end up with the worst case final ruling. This case will wind up, probably, satisfying nobody and the real issues will never get addressed. "Laws are no longer made by a rational process of public discussion; they are made by a process of blackmail and intimidation, and they are executed in the same manner." H. L. Mencken "Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone." John Maynard Keynes "There's no need to change the world. All we have to do is toilet train the world, and we'll never have to change it again."
None of you would be surprised that the USWNTPA didn't really agree with Cordeiro's letter: Just received the statement from Molly Levinson, spokesperson for the #USWNT players, in reaction to the open letter from Carlos Cordeiro and the U.S. Soccer fact sheet."The USSF fact sheet is not a 'clarification'. It is a ruse."Full statement 👇 pic.twitter.com/uBkHDTX8XA— Meg Linehan (@itsmeglinehan) July 29, 2019 However, you might be a little surprised at the USNTPA (men's) also didn't (their CBA has expired, and they would like a "fair share" of their revenue): U.S. men's soccer team players association issues statement supporting U.S. women's "pursuit of fair compensation," and takes issue with US Soccer's accounting in its letter yesterday: https://t.co/4zd2cXMNw1 pic.twitter.com/yXeDqTJLQ6— Rachel Bachman (@Bachscore) July 30, 2019
