The situation is very sad. Basically it had been decided that women's club didn't have to be part of the "amaterur section" of Italian Federation anymore and could finally be directly under direction of FIGC, thus having the chance to access professionalism and to give some real money to the players.

But the commissioner of FIGC (a temporary commissioner: don't even get me started about the current situation of Italian federation... :x3:) wanted to reverse this decision and to bring women's football once again under LND (Lega Nazionale Dilettanti = National Amateurish League).
Thus the protest of all of Italian 1st Division clubs that led their complaints to a court in trial.

Some people are trying to get to an agreement, but unluckily not many people in Italy really care about women's football, so at the moment the beginning of the league is delayed: a decision should come during next week, but the situation is already beyond shameful.

Yes, it's basically the only one in Italy providing complete and unbiased information about women's football.

Juventus-Brøndby highlights. After second Danish goal you can hear Juventus coach Rita Guarino saying: "two goals taken in the same way"; that's not exactly true, but in fact both saw a player being basically free at the center of the box who received a cross from one of the sides.
I guess Barbara Bonansea's goals are really worth watching. :coffee:

It was the day of braces for Italian NT players: Ilaria Mauro made it a 2-0 for Fiorentina vs Fortuna Hjørring, though. These video highlights are from Fiorentina's official website, I hope they're not geo-blocked out of Italy:

    Yeah, highlights worked fine.

Fiorentina opened the Serie A 2018/19 season last night (Friday), with a 6-1 win over Atalanta Mozzanica.

Sky TV Italy has the rights to the league and Coppa Italia this year, broadcasting the Sunday 12:30 kickoffs:

    - Autotranslated: sport.sky.it/calcio/serie-a/2018/09/19/serie-a-femminile-diritti-tv-sky.html (Archived)

Juve v Chievo Verona is tomorrow - it looks like the clubs keep the right to stream some other games.

Also this weekend, the opening games for the newly created clubs, AC Milan away at relegation survivors Pink Bari, and AS Roma away at Sassuolo.

    There's a season introduction here, team-by-team:

Thanks for posting these highlights, @sbahnhof: I am too lazy to do that, even if Italy's my own country! :giggle:

I think it's a shame for Italian women's soccer's movement that Juventus was eliminated from the Champions' League early and Fiorentina just got a nigh impossible draw vs Chelsea. But at least the national league should remain quite exciting: we seldom had so much quality in top-teams' rosters.

Also: I could post this anywhere on BS, but I officially state that your new avatar is hurting my eyes, @sbahnhof! :p

OK OK, I'll change it to a fern or something.

    November news/videos:

Milan are top after 8 matches.

They drew with the 4th/5th-place clubs, 2-2 at Sassuolo and 1-1 at Florentia, and Milan had single-goal victories over Tavagnacco and Hellas Verona, but the main one was a 3-0 at home to Juve on 4 November. Brazilian Thaisa Moreno scored a "gol alla Kakà"

Juventus are winning most games convincingly, including 4-0 at the 'new' Roma, but Juve dropped points to Atalanta (1-1) before the Milan loss. Their media inglese's all over the place. Fiorentina are hosting Juve in week 8, the winner would take 2nd place. The Viola are on a run of victories at Sassuolo, Tavagnacco and a 6-2 at Verona.

    Milan 3, Juventus 0 - (Thaisa Moreno 50', Giacinti 60', Sabatino 64')

The 2018 Supercoppa (Super Cup) was won 1-0 by Fiorentina, beating Juventus with Ilaria Mauro's goal (68'). But in week 8 of the league, Juve turned the tables and beat Fiorentina away, 2-0.

By the way, you wouldn't think a TV channel would run its website worse than ours, but.. o_O

The league is finely balanced at the Coppa Italia break this weekend. After week 9 of Serie A 2018/19 – Milan 23pts, Juve 22pts, Fiorentina 21.

Sassuolo are 4th after a 4-1 win over Verona (in blue). 6th-placed Roma led 1-0 against Milan, but the game ended 2-1 for Milan. And the Florence derby finished Florentia 0 Fiorentina 3 with two goals by Scotland's Lana Clelland.

No shortage of goals in the Verona derby!

[IMG] Inter Milan (Internazionale) now have an affiliated women's team, as of October 2018. The club took over ASD Inter Milano in Serie B. The first big match was a Milan derby in the Coppa Italia, played in the San Siro... or not.
Still, Inter looked quite strong in a 5-3 defeat against AC Milan of Serie A. Inter are currently 1st in Serie B.

Week 10: AC Milan are no longer top of Serie A, after they drew 0-0 with Atalanta.

Juventus took 1st place with a 2-0 win away at Tavagnacco - both goals by Cristiana Girelli.

Behind Fiorentina (3rd place), Florentia moved up to 4th with a 1-0 away win at Sassuolo (blue).

In week 11 Fiorentina dropped 2 points, held to a draw by Roma in their last match of 2018, while Juve and Milan hit 5-goal scorelines.

In January, Milan fell to a disastrous defeat and/or great victory for Fiorentina, 4-0

In February, Juventus beat Roma just 1-0 at home, and then Juve couldn't score against Atalanta's 10 players, and missed a penalty in the 0-0 draw, a result which Atalanta celebrated like a victory.

That set up the most recent match: Juventus beat Milan to stay on top of the table:

    After 17 games (5 to go), it's Juve 44pts, Fiorentina 43, Milan 39, Roma 32

A couple of other things – Juventus striker Eni Aluko wrote in praise of the standard of the Italian league, and suggested that Juve v Fiorentina might be played at Allianz Stadium:

A young player tragically died late in 2018 – Verena Erlacher, a former Italy U17 team member:

Indeed the Sunday game will be at Allianz Stadium, Juventus v Fiorentina.

    After 18 games (4 to go), it's Juve 47pts, Fiorentina 46, Milan 42, Roma 35

It looks like the attendance will be over 25,000, the biggest Juve women's crowd so far, and an Italian record. The game will be televised in Italy on Sky (14:00 GMT / 15:00 CET). They've made a video preview with the Juve players:

In Serie A a week ago, all the top teams won. Juventus got a scrappy-looking win over the relegation-threatened Pink Bari, who led 1-0 with Ekroth's own-goal. (Week 18 highlights: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYm_FPxzAz8)
AC Milan v Florentia was the featured game: not too easy for Milan, but they won 1-0 with a deflected goal by Finland's Nora Heroum - youtu.be/HJ-ZmC9oGGU

Juventus' Bonansea: 12 league goals so far in 2018/19 (peppos, cc-by-sa)

Coppa Italia: The league's top 2 could meet in the final, if Juve and Fiorentina can hold out in the home 2nd leg in April. The first games ended Milan 1 Juventus 2 (highlights video) with away goals by Barbara Bonansea and Arianna Caruso, and at Stadio Tre Fontane it was Roma 1 Fiorentina 1 (goals video / match report).

Serie B is Inter Milan's title by miles: so far they've got 16 wins in 16 games, and a media inglese of... 16. Their latest victory was this week, 2-1 at Cesena.

It could be Juventus' championship now. They won in front of 39,027 fans yesterday:

    [IMG] 1 - 0 [IMG]
    Goal: Sofie Pedersen 84'

A couple of minutes of highlights are up officially so far:

    - Video: https://sport.sky.it/calcio/femminile/2019/03/24/juventus-women-fiorentina-risultato-gol.html

Fiorentina almost took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd half, with an Alia Guagni volley that hit the bar and then the goal-line. The winning goal, when it came, was a defensive error: GK Durante totally missed the cross and let Pedersen head in for Juve. After 80', Fiorentina striker Ilaria Mauro left hurt and was replaced by Scotland's Lana Clelland, herself recovering from injury.

To show the atmosphere, a video of the stadium when Pedersen scored:

(So if you were wondering, "do Italian football fans listen to a band called The Fratellis who are not Italian", the answer is sì.)

The attendance is incredible, it's well over double the known record in Italian women's. And isn't even comparable with the usual crowd in Serie A Femminile.

It's good to see some wider recognition for women's football in Italy, after the strong national teams of the 1970s and '80s – let's hope this will lead to bigger things for the sport.

Unluckily this match costed dearly to Juventus and, especially, to Italy NT. :( Center-Back Cecilia Salvai had a right-knee ACL and she will miss the reminder of the season and, especially, Women's World Cup!!!:cry::cry:

She was a key-player for National Team, not only for her prowess in defense, but also because she was a secret weapon in offense with her headers from set pieces. Also, she had a special chemstry with the other CB Sara Gama and all of the Juventus players in NT. For sure, It won't be easy to replace her: I can't even thing of an Italian DF of similar level to put at the center of NT's defense: maybe Elena Linari or Lisa Boattin, but for sure it won't be the same.

Meanwhile, I couldn't find any news about Mauro's injury. I assume it's not as bad as Salvai's or I ouldn't have probably found out already. Losing Mauro for WWC would be a big hit also, although not as big as losing Salvai, because Mauro is much more replaceable (for instance with Valentina Giacinti).
