I don't think it is horrible but is sort of like a bad retro to the early 90s which isn't a classic era or look for uniforms. Were the Dynamo trying for a Zubas look (I hope people remember that gear in 1990)
Solidly meh. I like the ‘17 primary and the fade in ‘15 better than this. It’s better than the sunburst though and solid orange/white sleeve we had. Like middle of the pack for home jerseys. I miss the white top orange shirt combo that we’ve had at times. I guess we’re keeping black and this new UTish orange will be our “light” jersey as others are saying
Black has not turned into the primary for the Dynamo. And it has not been worn often in the heat. Shirts worn, by color, number of official games: 2016: 25 Orange, 12 Black 2017: 35 Orange, 6 Black 2018: 29 Orange, 9 Black You can see the trend. When the team introduces a new kit it gets more play but Orange is still, by far, the primary kit. Home games: 2016: 15 Orange, 5 Black (worn on March 6, May 7, July 23, August 27, October 16) 2017: 21 Orange, 0 Black 2018: 20 Orange, 1 Black (worn on May 5) Yep, in 2016 they wore black shirt at home in the heat of the summer a couple of times. Not so much since. And, remember, black absorbs light, not heat. Those summer games where the team wore black were 8 pm starts. NOTE: in the above stats I only included Orange and Black shirts. The Dynamo also wore that special recycled white shirt for one home game last year.
Basic physics: A black body absorbs all wavelengths of light and converts them into heat, so the object gets warm. The heat absorbed by the shirt radiates into you. [If the light is reflected back into space, neither you nor the object get heated up.] https://scienceline.ucsb.edu/getkey.php?key=3873 I concede you are correct on the shirt count. I don't concede the physics. The only arguments I have heard that make physics sense in some narrow way tend to be rubbish contrarianism at heart. That if you wear layers of black robes in the desert you don't feel hot from the black. [Yeah, you feel hot from layers of fabric.] Or that different wavelengths go through and get trapped for white but not for black. Meh. I have seen studies where a white cotton T hit with a thermometer in the summer heat is like 70F-something, the white sport shirt is 90 or so, and the black is like 95. I am glad we don't wear it as often as I thought. I think it is a cool look but impractical, for a team that needs every thoughtful edge it can get. If the idea is get some tropical central Americans to play in our summer, well don't be dense and run them out there in black.
Its says it right there from the article you linked: "Heat and light are both different types of energy." "A black object absorbs all wavelengths of light and converts them into heat, so the object gets warm." Heat and light are different forms of energy. Black absorbs light and converts it to heat. Nowhere in there does it say that black absorbs heat. If players wear black in the sunlight they are going to get hotter. Completely agree on that. Wearing black in the dark would not be hotter. There is no light to absorb and create heat. When the Dynamo play after sunset they could be absorbing slightly more light from the stadium lights but that is pretty negligible compared to sunlight which is sending out a fuller spectrum of wavelengths of light. This study that you are referring to about white cotton shirts versus a sport shirt or a black shirt, is that in the sunlight or at night? You just say "in the summer heat".
This is Nucking Futs. Anyone who wears dark and light shirts in Texas knows the dark shirt is hotter during the day but the same as white at night. When was the last time a dark car was hotter in the early morning than a white car? Never. The black shirts are fine at night. There is no doubt about it.
Fantastic. Looked a'right. It was the orangish of the orange we have ever trotted out on the field I will say this! HA! Like 10 of those orange highlighter markers running around playing footy!
happy to finally have an all orange uniform. the cheesy ghost prints on the top are well...cheesy. you can't see them from the stands though so i hope they wear them often
No. The shirt didn't even look any different than the non-striped shorts. The whole kit just looked like the same shade of orange. At one point it looked like Struna was wearing a different shade of orange shorts but they were just wet.
Agree, when jersey first came out, it was crap, but on the field, it looked really nice. The orange shade they selected was crisp. Now, somehow a professional soccer team could not get matching long sleeve underneath shirts. Seriously?! Refs should have never allowed them to play in them, they must be the same color as jerseys, it is an easy clear rule.
ha! i thought i was the only one that was bothered by it. most refs wouldn't let them come out of the tunnel like that. my only guess is they discussed it in the pre-game kit inspection and Guastatoya didn't object since it was orange vs green.
Am I wrong but doesn’t Adidas supply the matching color undershirts for those wishing long sleeves, and the Dynamo had on the official Adidas matching undershirts? I don’t think they went to Academy and picked up something off the shelf. In that situation it is ridiculous to propose that any referee would object. Yeah, I noticed the shade of orange was different — but when the league has a contract with Adidas and you wear the official shirt ....
I’ve been thinking this for years! There have been a variety of “oranges” over the years where shorts, socks, shirts were not exactly the same shade. Not as blatantly different as the undershirts, but still not quite exact matches. If it’s all Adidas equipment, why can’t it be exact?
There is more on the jersey quality sold to fans here and while it seems like an Adidas problem, I wonder how much the Dynamo played a part in by having a late reveal and maybe a rushed production (although I don't think that would be the case because I think MLS and Adidas have long lead times for jersey changes, but the Dynamo one was the last to be put on sale) This jersey:🤘 of Approval#ForeverOrange pic.twitter.com/mCzq7RBjoa— Foxtrot (@DynamicFoxtrot) March 13, 2019 My lettering started peeling off and a mysterious hole showed up the first day I had it. Needless to say that I’m in a discussion with the Team Store about it. I know this is more on Adidas, but the Dynamo need to put pressure in them providing an inferior product for the price.— Geology Frog (@GeoFrogRocks) March 15, 2019
actually, that's pretty normal for today's soccer jersey. the material is so light (by design) that theyre more delicate than the cotton and/or polyester ones we wore in the 70s and 80s. on the flip side, it allows a player to survive a Houston summer without dying.
true, but those fabric snags are due to a crappy washer, carelessness, etc. you got to wash that in delicate and hang to air dry. pfft, amateurs. can't speak on the hole. PS - only savages wash all their clothes together. sort that sht.
A leak of this year's special recycled jerseys. https://www.footyheadlines.com/2019/03/24-adidas-x-parley-mls-2019-jerseys.html Earth Day is April 22 so the Dynamo might be wearing this for the April 19 game at the Galaxy.
