Lima is a left back? I agree Lima should have stayed with his mark. That being said, Vega could have pushed it out for a corner, and the other defenders could have tracked with the ball. If the defenders know the system, wouldn't they have anticipated Vega's play?

What's the system? "Hey you, mark #15. You over there, mark that other guy. Okay - team talk over." It's not exactly the approach for a philosopher of the game.

I respectfully disagree. Love Wondo (sans Belgium game) ... but the record thing is a cover for the organization's incompetency

Eh. I wouldn't discount 76 games for River Plate.

I'm not opposed to giving him a shot at right back, but do it with the reserves. Don't experiment in league play when you're trying to right the ship.

Fun fact. Lima has 3 more goals than TT in almost half the games.

Yeah I went and checked out some spectacular waterfalls (Big Basin) and now I’m waiting for Stephen Marley to come on over here at the Catalyst. Sounds like I can delete this one without watching.

So what about the Belgium game that made you hate him?

The thing is this: we're expecting Vako out there doing both an attacker from the midfield and as a striker. That's really too much to put on his shoulder. We need to put Hoesen back on the starting lineup.

I am so tired of this WondoWatch. I don't know what to say about it other than that either 1) Almeyda gives Wondo too much respect, or 2) Almeyda has no power to override Jesse/Fox/marketing department and had to deploy Wondo for his 2 damn goals.

I just read the NYTimes article about the sad state of the Revs right now. They quoted Brad Friedel as saying that the big problem last season was that there were no leaders on the team. It made me wonder if the Quakes have any leaders on the field.

Almeyda is looking to change “the mentality” of the team. But doesn’t a change in attitude really come from leaders on the team who are on the field? Change doesn’t come from the manager trying to get them to believe in his system. A couple of players have to lead the way. It doesn’t appear to be Wondo, Godoy, or Vako. Maybe Magnus or Kashia?

I just don’t see who could be a mentality difference maker for the quakes.

Lol imagine putting stock in anything Brad Friedel has to say...
The Revs are far worse off under Friedel and his team of leaders in the last year than they were under Jay Heaps and non-leaders like Lee Nguyen and Kelyn Rowe who managed to escape to competently-run teams...

Yeah, i know Friedel has been doing a horrible job and also appears to be inciting players to leave. He seems like a my-way-or-the-highway kind of guy. But I still think he is correct that a team needs true leaders.

In other words, having Almeyda is not enough. There’s gotta be a couple of people channeling Almeyda on the field.

Our defense is responsible for all four goals, yet you still blame Wondo who did not receive a single useful pass, calling him a villain. Disgusting.

For me, ‘leaders on the pitch’ is just a poor coach trying to point fingers any way but his. Doyle-esque if you ask me.

Freidel doesn’t seem like he knows how to pick good players let alone how to coach them into a good team.

Just had a chance to watch a recording of this game. The Quakes haven't changed at all from last season. As soon as we went up 1-0, I knew we were going to lose, and lose badly. Although he got a goal, which was put on a platter for him, Espinoza continually infuriated me with his failure to play early crosses to streaking teammates when we had a numbers advantage. I was screaming at the tv... "play the ball into the wide open space!!!!". He also failed to put several crosses in accurately (once when Wondo was wide open), and he still can't put in a decent corner kick. He just loves to try to get to the end line, and then crosses seemingly aimlessly. As frustrated as I was with Espinoza, I thought this was Godoy's worst game of all time. He was a total disaster. The second half was of course pathetic, but as someone already mentioned, we should have been up by at least two or even three goals going into the half.

The thing I really noticed about Wondo today was his failure to challenge for 50/50 long balls played out from the back. He would do a token run-by, as if being in the general vicinity of the ball amounts to an effort to win it. Sad.

Nick Lima's value has never been higher after his performances at January camp and another call up to the national team... maybe we should sell him before we destroy that value.

Just an observation: My local paper no longer covers the Quakes results, they figure it isn't worth the paper space. :ROFLMAO:

Matias needs time. I will be patient. Ownership needs to back him with a serious transfer budget. Signs of promise in the first half.

Perhaps they're worried that if their reporters actually have to watch the Quakes games they might be at risk of a hostile work environment claim, due to the severe offensive conduct they'd be seeing on the pitch.

(And apologies in advance to anyone who's actually had to deal with such a workplace. This is, obviously, an attempt at cathartic humor, as it's very tough to be a Quakes fan/someone who puts their time and money into supporting this organization right now).
