If we do sign and get under the international limit, how do we lineup? Maybe 3-5-2, we did have success with it back in 1998. --------------------------Ousted---------------------------- -Kapp/Marcelo-------Nilsson-------Kapp/Marcelo-- ------------------------------Dax----------------------------- --Katai-------------------Bastian----------Frankowski-- -----------------------------Gaitan--------------------------- --Sapong--------------------------------------------Niko-- Bench: Cleveland, Corrales, Adams/Edwards, Bronico, Milhailovic, Martinez, Herbers Need to practice more cheerfully to make the game day roster. Exactly! We're still trying to live down not winning the World Cup after we got Bastian. But seriously, my son, an Atletico fan for some reason, believes he could be one of the best players in MLS if he were to join the Fire.

Jeez took a few days off to travel to Memphis and back...missed all the hubbub! Is this like a competitive squad now or something? View attachment 149533
My article on possible lineups for the Fire, now outdated due to the Gaitan signing: https://mlsmultiplex.com/2019/03/01/chicago-fire-tactical-preview-2019-season/
I'm guessing Dax would play higher than Basti in that lineup. Damn it'd be fun to run that out. The atlanta games are going to end 7-5 or 6-6.
So any news about Gaitan, Nilsson and which international players are going to go considering we will be two, three or four over the limit?
Source tells me that the Fire will loan Elliott Collier to Memphis and Raheem Edwards to Lansing to become compliant in regards to international spots.— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) March 1, 2019
That gets the team into roster compliance to start the season. They would need to loan out , trade , sell or buy out two more players to bring these guys in ( unless green cards come through)
Lansing is three hours up the road. I'm assuming Raheem will continue to live in Chicago and train with the Fire . Lansing will get a free MLS player the day if games.
I agree 100% , but I think his loan is very short term. If the fire believed otherwise I think he would've been traded. The shambles TFC is in they may be a willing trade partner and I think Vancouver would also think about that trade.
Edwards has a slight knock. I'm sure that was a part of the decision as well. If he's not 100% and we need to roster slot, better to find a place for him to stay while we sort everything else out. As soon as the green cards are complete, he'll be back.
Checked out for a few weeks. Just read Rivera's latest article in The Athletic. Very surprised by the quality of the Fire's late adds. They may actually pull this off (be competitive). Need to stay healthy.
If Gaitan is added and is anywhere near his past talent , the Fire will have the most imposing front six in the league. Even if Bastian gets dropped back to CB , I like the idea of a Dax/ Djordje double pivot. I think DM is a natural 8 and should thrive being a link between Bastian and Gaitan .
Btw... A little negativity. With all these potential good moves it just highlights how big of a loss Polster is.
Maybe I missed this , but just saw on Twitter that the team has a 14 y/o GK on roster as a HG (Gabriel Slonina) When did this happen?!?! @willydonc I see you commented on the Twitter thread , what can you share ?
Probably a typo. He's really good, for a 14/15 year old kid. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/gabriel-slonina-european-opportunities.2092086/ https://www.chicagofireacademy.com/news_article/show/961735 https://www.reddit.com/r/chicagofire/comments/awed5q/gabriel_slonina/ Besides Slonina & Las there was a third Fire Academy keeper called up to the most recent USYNT camp, Christopher Brady another U-15.
Why is Brandt Bronico on the team? Can someone explain what talent or quality he offers? Yes, he is still young, but what talent does he have? Is he an attacking midfielder? If so, then he is not good at it, although his 5 assists last season are not bad. Is he more of a defensive midfielder? If so, then he is not good at it, either. If I cannot figure out where he should even be on the field, that is not a good sign. He is in his third year and I have seen nothing from him to justify remaining on the team, much less in the game-day 18 or starting.
