I don't expect perfection even in the World Cup. I just would prefer not to see the exact opposite now.

England's second shot on goal and their second goal.

The US is playing like they have not been introduced to each other.

52' 1-2 Bronze passes from ~circle top right to ~25m center -- and Parris back-cuts Dunn through arc top box right. Kirby one-touch diagonal backheel volley hits Parris in stride through 12m mid-right down to 7m 6-right, Parris shoots right instep past Franch's right hand into left side netting. That zig-zag entry combo is a better idea than we've shown, because it catches our defense high and our box empty.

55' 1-2 USA subs in (1 of 6) #23 Christen Press for #11 Mallory Pugh.
61' 1-2 USA subs in (2 of 6) #4 Becky Sauerbrunn for #5 Kelley O'Hara. Our backline is now Davidson, Sauerbrunn, Dahlkemper, Dunn on the right.

Our keeper is out of her element. Again way out of position on the second England goal. Dear Sweetie, take one big step forward and you have the angle cut off. But you stayed too deep and cheated too much to near post. Sad. Sorry but that is not acceptable for this level.

Definitely something that’s concerning is any time a player has the ball in the defensive third, she seems more likely to force the pass to a teammate who isn’t open instead of making the safe pass back to the keeper. There have been a lot of those giveaways in this game

US players a yelling at the ref instead of simply tightening up their game. This team does not, right now, look like they want to win. They are not playing hungry.

Mmm, if wearing Scurry's name on her jersey was meant to be a way to honour her, I am not sure how much Franch is actually honouring her today...

It's a shame, because I had always liked Franch a lot in NWSL.

“Opposite” seems a little extreme. No team is ever perfect. At least not for very long. But this is a tune up.

They don't even look like they want to draw right now [not that you can even play to draw and expect not to lose].

I’m not sure she’s WNT caliber. It could just be a bad game, but she has been a weak spot

62' 1-2 Dunn backpass to Dahlkemper. Dahlkemper loses it in box, White(?) snap shot from box top arc left, just wide left. Ugh.

63' 1-2 White dribbles up arc left lane to 25m, slides down, Ertz runs past her and trips over White's extended right shoe. Foul on -- Ertz, for the initial contact that brought White down?

64' 1-2 USA subs in (3 of 6) #3 Samantha Mewis for #16 Rose Lavelle.

There is an old soccer saying that goes: "You can't give a good player a bad pass." The US' bad passing is the result of both bad pass and many many horrid first touches.

It should be noted that in the 150+ minutes that have so far been played in this series of matches the US has played maybe 20 quality minutes, 90 average minutes an 40+ absolutely horrid minutes.

    2-2

A scrum similar to the first minute of the game after a corner.

    England fortunate with the handling

65' 1-2 USA dummies over ball at midfield wide left, Rapinoe runs on past circle top, with 1 step on Walsh(?). Rapinoe maintains lead (just barely), gets to 9m mid-left, pulls a cross through box, cleared away. Morgan retrieves at box top center, pokes a pass to Mewis at box top left. One-touch left outstep crescent dink down box left is too strong for Rapinoe.

67' 2-2 USA right ck, into the near post scrum, bounces off legs. Press(?) scoops it back into chests at 2m right post, it skitters along goalline. Heath lurks at 1m center, scuffs it to goalline 1/4 left, Daly does a sit-kick and blocks it out to Heath. Heath kicks it again, up off McManus's right fist (already across line) and down into left bottom pipe. Scramble play, all torsos and pressure, not a whit of elegance afoot :D

There were a LOT of horrid touches in front of the English goal both by the US and England. The last one was by the US but it went into goal.

it is 2-2 and the last 20+ minutes should be "interesting" in all the worst meanings of the word.

I don't like that stoppage. Yes, there was contact with her head, but it was the ball to the face not head to head.

71' 2-2 Houghton jostles with Rapinoe under a high dropping ball, gives a gentle two-handed push to Rapinoe's lower back -- hence ball glances off the back of Rapinoe's skull, directly into Houghton's nose/eyes. Houghton stays down, USA switch right and hit Press unmarked on a breakaway at midfield box right -- but play blown dead for the head injury. Stoppage, trainers, Houghton walks off.

    74' 2-2 Houghton returns.

As I've pointed out before, regardless of how elegant or inelegant a goal may be, it still counts the same.
