It's not a prank thread. Might be a prank bid, possibly...

    https://www.fotball.no/tema/nff-nyh...rbeid-om-pilotprosjekt-for-mesterskapssoknad/

    Nordic cooperation on "Vision 2027"
The six Nordic football federations are collaborating on a pilot project concerning the application for the World Cup for Women in 2027.

For over a year, the Nordic football associations (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands) have had a working group dedicated to working with potential joint applications for future international championships. Having reviewed both the FIFA and UEFA championships, the six federations have come to the conclusion that the dream and ambitions of arranging future championships will live on and that they will join together for an application for one of the greatest future international football championships .

    - We have a good Nordic co-operation, which among other things works for better framework conditions for women's football internationally, and then it became a natural choice for us to initiate a process to arrange the football World Cup for women. The Nordic countries have a leading position in women's football, and I hope that we will be able to reach our application when that time comes, "says football president Terje Svendsen.

Last week, the "Nordic Working Group for Common Championship Applications" had a meeting, and agreed to initiate a pilot project on a potential application for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2027.
FIFA has signaled a positive approach to joint organizers for their championships in the future, which has opened the door for the Nordic ambitions.

The six football federations have so far concluded that a joint application should be based on common Nordic values. In addition, the study will map how many Nordic football arenas can meet the requirements for the FIFA Women's World Cup.
Anyway, there will also be several other activities and events related to the championship, which means that the hosts can be distributed to all six countries. A joint project like this will also further strengthen Nordic co-operation, and become a good source of new expertise and inspiration in the Nordic region.

The pilot project has been named "Vision 2027". The first phase will involve surveys in the respective countries regarding which cities and stadiums will be interested in being part of the project.

Ambitious stuff. They're certainly making their plans early: 8 years early! Could it succeed? We need your expertise @flax @JanBalk @Páll Guðmundsson @Thomsen @jocasta

6 hosts is too many. Should just be 3(Sweden, Norway, Finland). It'll be interesting how this works out if a bid actually happens.

By a purely "women's fotball" point of view, probably should be Norway/Sweden/Denmark, since Demark has been historically much stronger than Finland. Even geographically, I guess Denmark would make more sense, since it seems to me that the Øresund's and Southern Norway's areas are more compact and much better interconnected than Finland would be with Sweden and Norway. By a cultural/historical point of view I am not sure, but I suppose Denmark could make more sense than Finland anyway.

France 2019 will have 9 venues this summer. If the same applies to a Nor-Swe-Den bid, I assume we could have these cities and stadiums:

    DENMARK:
    Copenhagen - Parken (38 000)
    Aarhus - Ceres Park (21 000)
    Esbjerg - Blue Water Arena (18 000)

    SWEDEN
    Stockholm - Friends Arena (50 000)
    Malmö - Malmö Stadion (24 000)
    Gothenburg - Gamla Ullevi (18 000)

    NORWAY
    Oslo - Ullevaal Stadion (28 000)
    Trondheim - Lerkendal (21 000)
    Bergen - Brann Stadion (20 000)

Final in Stockholm, one semi-final each in Oslo and Copenhagen. A rather compact tournament not using the Northern parts of Sweden and Norway. The longest distance between two venues will be Trondheim-Copenhagen (about 900 km), which is a distance you could also travel on the French mainland without crossing borders. Scandinavia looks larger on a flat map than what it really is.

Yea, a Scandinavian WC would great--but in the end it would have to be two or three host nations (Sweden, Denmark, Norway make the most sense) and not six. Not sure three is even feasible because of the qualification issue. I also think the women's WC should stay at 24 teams for the foreseeable future. It's more manageable, which is a good thing for potential host nations, and you don't really need 32 right now. Of course everybody wants to be in the WC, but that doesn't mean they should be. It's already a VERY long and cumbersome process to give /everybody/ a chance to qualify.

This makes more sense than choosing Qatar for the men's WC. At least the conditions in the summer will be playable while, even in winter, Qatar's playing conditions will be poor, at best. Of course that does not even remotely address the disruption to the men's schedules and many club seasons.

Having said that I do think that six nations are too many unless something is done to reduce the automatic bids down to three or, even better, two.

I would find this of interest as there is a chance that I might still be alive in 2027 and, if I am able to travel, it would make for a good excuse to visit some friends I have in the region that I have not seen for many many years including one goddaughter who now has a daughter of her own. Is there such a relationship as grand-godfather/goddaughter??

But, I really do not think the this has much of a chance. The politics to make it happen might be almost unsolvable.

It would be Fifa and 6 national FAs working together. What could go wrong? :D

    You know they have!

[IMG] I'm sure we all remember the 2019 qualifiers where the Faroes scored 1 goal (by Milja Simonsen) while conceding 53 goals. Ah, memories. A happier day in the Faroes was when they beat Turkey to win the World Cup preliminary group... But yeah, this team shouldn't play in the World Cup.

The national stadium in Tórshavn is Tórsvøllur – beautiful surroundings for football, but it only holds 6,000 as it is.

Thx @AndyHE for the Faroe info too (and sorry to Nordic posters I forgot to @)

I have not seen it on our federations page or in news yet so not sure how far they come. But since the Norwegian federation have it on their page is it should be true. And is in line with things our federations do and have done before so I am not really surprised.

The federations will have their ducks in a row, so the organisation and co-operation among them shouldn't be a problem.
Will they get enough support from citys and government, likely to very likely but not assured.
Will they get it? FIFA works in mysterious way and Scandinavians do not do bribes very well so that may be hard.

I guess that like the Euro application a few years back it will be two or three countries applying with the other federation backing it to the hilt. Most likely Sweden/Norway/Denmark , Sweden/Norway or Sweden/Denmark.

They will not request six spot and probably not two or three either. I guess they would go for something like all WNT get to try to qualify and one spot for the best loser, or possibly two spots for the two best losers, guess Finland and Faroe Islands could use them ;) .

It's ambitious and the Icelandic football Association is more than willing, especially because it puts more pressure on the local government to help bringing a new national stadium into fruition, something that the association and Icelandic football fans have been dreaming about for years. As it stands, our national stadium, Laugardalsvöllur, is not up to standard with only 9.800 seats and a running track around the pitch which means the stands are far from the pitch. So much has to happen in the meantime. The good news are that the government and the Icelandic Football Association have come to an agreement to build a national stadium. The question is; Will it be ready before 2027?

Being a Host of a world cup and not having a team participating is kind of stupid. Only posibility I see a world Cup with 6 hosts is with 32 nations. For example: UEFA could have 12 teams including the 6 hosts.

@JanBalk's analysis sounds right - in fact the original NFF article mentioned this:

What kind of events could the other countries host? Just promotional things? It would be nice if they could hold WWC teams' training camps, but it's not very practical if the match venues are far away.

Hmm, I dunno... the BBC women's football commentator is Jonathan Pearce (...He's calmed down a bit since the 1990s)

Distances between the Nordic countries (expect Iceland and Faroe Island) is often no longer than between places in the countries. Or when I think about it, distances to parts of Sweden is no longer from the other Nordic countries (expect Iceland and Faroe Island) than it would be between places in the countries themself, and vice versa.
Keeping thing in reasonable distances do pretty much shout out the northern half och the Nordics, then again having big stadiums probably would do that anyway.

Sorry, I've changed my mind. The Faroe Islands should play in every World Cup.
    https://web.archive.org/web/2019050...d-obsession-of-football-in-the-faroe-islands/

"There are over 5,000 registered footballers in the Faroes, which equates to 10 percent of the entire population ... [Tórsvøllur's capacity] would be comparable to Wembley being able to hold 6.72m fans." - (TheseFootballTimes)

Aside from the reasons mentioned (having 6 hosts is stupid), I don't want this because I don't want the WC back in Europe until at least 2031. Give 2023 to an AFC country, then 2027 to a CONCACAF or CONMEBOL country. Maybe even a CAF country in 2027.

2023 will be either Japan or Australia. 2027 to a CONMEBOL country and hopefully 2031 to CAF. Europe can get it again in 2035, then CONCACAF in 2039(USA?).

Both Colombia and Venezuela specifically created/upgraded their top divisions with the intent of bidding for the WWC. I wouldn't count South America out, especially in low-bidding situations.

Political and economical situation in Venezuela right now makes it difficult to think that they can bid for a World Cup. Of course, we're talking some years from now, but you should be able to see at least an hint of the expected conditions right now.

Yeah, combine the general turmoil in VEN and the scandals in COL, both are certainly having problems. But don't forget that this is FIFA weren't talking about - the 2010, 2018, and 2022 MWC hosts have all been very questionable decisions already. Even if things aren't perfect in either country, I would not be surprised if FIFA gives one or both more consideration than they should if just to get the WWC to a new continent.

They should make a deal with FIFA. Sweden/Norway/Finland get the 2027 WWC, Denmark gets the 2026 U-20 WC & Iceland gets the 2026 U-17 WC.
