Johnson has had a strange campaign marred by injuries and falling out of favor with the manager. He started the first 4 matches of the season but has really returned as a factor only in the 2 most recent matches, earning a grand total of 6 starts and 5 sub appearances on the season, with 1 goal and 1 assist. Gladbach finish 2018 in 3rd place in the Bundesliga. We'll see if those FC Cincinnati rumors come true for Johnson, or whether with his recent resurgence if Johnson wants to fight on in Germany until the end of his contract in June 2020.
He looked good out there. I like him @ outside back - think he could be a factor for USMNT there this cycle....hopefully his move back there after the 3G hire is a signal of that possibility.
I'm not sure he's fallen out of favor with the manager, I think it's mostly a matter of form due to chronic injury. Whenever he's played for more than garbage minutes, he's shown well.

Does anyone who follows the team know, did their main starter at RB go down injured, or is Fabian now their starting RB?
The guy they bought from Switzerland, Michael Lang, was expected to be their starting RB but failed to impress. They gave a shot to Traore, who's more a winger, and it didn't work. So now it's Fabian. PS: Beyer, Elvedi and Jantschke can all play RB but 'Gladbach needs them more as CBs. The last of that trio is injury-prone.
looks like Lang is considered currently ahead of Johnson at RB but has to show it tomorrow in Gladbach's friendly.
⛔️ @FabianJohnson23 (Hüftprobleme), @TraoreIbra16 (Belastungssteuerung) und @kbennetts_11 (Muskelfaserriss im Oberschenkel) können heute nicht spielen. #BMGSTA pic.twitter.com/64y4F2GXX1— Borussia (@borussia) January 11, 2019
With his health issues I was surprised he managed to play over 45' twice in a row in the BuLi. It was pushing it, let's hope the hip issues don't take him out for long. At this point though they need to be careful with him and play him only as a sub.

FC Cincinnati had reached a deal with Fab before MLS stepped in and insisted that FCC had to go through the MLS allocation process even though they were not yet technically in MLS.
Buyer beware. I could picture him coming to MLS and killing it for a few months and then become indifferent with the heat, travel, turf, etc. Just an impression I get from the guy. Certainly has the talent to be a big hit in MLS.
I see where you’re coming from as well. I remember how well he played in the 2014 WC, looked world class. Almost looked like he was trying to prove Germany should have kept him around in anger. Ever since then he started going downhill for club and us, granted he’s had several minor injuries.
