These past 2 games make me wish that Leipzig had played Adams in the previous game, at home against Dortmund (which they lost).
He hasn't looked confident in using his left foot yet. I haven't watched him much, so I don't know what his left is like, but once teams figure that out they might starting playing him accordingly. The time when he was at the top of the box and he elected to pass it wide with his right instead of shooting with his left was pretty telling.
He had a shot on target from very long range. Hanover as a team had a shot on target, and it came in the 88th minute. He was playing especially deep in the second half. That's not going to generate any chances.
Wasn't really telling to me, as the better shot he passed up was when it was on his RIGHT foot. He cut back to his left foot in a worse position.
I never noticed it as a particular weakness when he was with New York, but unless you're Jordan Morris-bad on your weak foot, it can be easy to disguise in MLS.
I'm not saying he needed to shoot better today, just that, as a whole, he isn't good at it. In 52 MLS games, he attempted 25 shots, put 8 on target, and scored twice. You don't have to be good at it to be a great defensive-minded midfielder, but it can be a helpful tool.
I missed that part. Anyways yes, he should have shot the ball. I'm sure his confidence will only grow with more starts and training sessions.
Eh, I don't see those stats as being indicative of much of anything. DeAndre Yedlin is bad at shooting. His technique is poor, and his shots are poor. He cannot cut inside and shoot, nor does he strike the ball very well. Tyler Adams, who is also playing a role that doesn't score very much, strikes me as someone who either doesn't want to, or is told not to, shoot. I haven't seen him try any curling shots, but that lack of shooting doesn't mean he couldn't rip one every once in a while. And I'll bet he can get better at it.
I get it, but as a big Adams fan, I understand @ArsenalMetro on this point. He is not an amazing striker of the ball while shooting. He can certainly improve, but some guys just have a knack for it. Remember when Jozy was 18 years old? The guy could strike a ball through a brick wall with an inch of space. Some dudes, regardless of their overall top end talent, are just clean strikers of the ball.
He was so solid today. Working great with demme and should be a lock starter until seen otherwise. Amazing.
