I actually think Kap was better because he was alongside Meira for a season or two. Once Meira was gone..Kap was...well....less.
I think it has more to do with having 2 quality CBs (including Basti) back there. Basti without Kap this year would have looked a lot like Kap without Basti last year.
I really disagree with this, like with Arne. You could have played him next to a traffic cone and it still would have been successful. Same with Basti. A good signing but I guess I just disagree with the sentiment that it was a crucial signing. (Someone save this and throw it in my face when we suffer and injury and Kap steps in to save us!)
It is less a "crucial signing" than the Fire avoiding more self-inflicted wounds. The Fire have a better than average center back in Kappelhoff and did not improve at center back. Signing him avoids being short. It would be stupid not to sign him, unless we found a significant upgrade...which of course we did not.
Hopefully this means that Bastian is going back to the midfield. Niko Katai-Mikhailovic-Frankowski Bastain-Dax Edwards-Marcelo-Kapp-Hasler Cleveland Hopefully the next singing will be a keeper and an attacking midfielder
It like the when the Fire filled the Ante Razov allocation with Ante Razov. Kappelhof fills a hole that shouldn't have been there.
Welp hopefully he practices cheerfully and has off the charts distribution... https://www.chicago-fire.com/post/2...-soccer-club-acquires-goalkeeper-david-ousted
He is 33 years old and his salary was $369,000 last season, but Sean Johnson was too expensive. He is also an International. I hope this means they are getting rid of Richard Sanchez.
He's got a green card, I believe. He's played in MLS long enough. (Nevermind, I checked the article. That's an ouch)
Posted on DC's board and they said he is okay. Didn't do so great at DC but their backline was terrible(hopefully ours isn't) haha. Now onto the fullbacks. I hope we bring in another CB and have Kap be on the left. It seems to every Chicago has had one regrettable move lately. Bears Gould, Fire Johnson.
OK, so team appears pretty set except for defense. As suggested above, can we count on Edwards and Hasler as our outside backs? Seems like we need to add at least two players here. I like the way the line up is shaping up with this exception.
I don't think Kap has ever played LB consistently at the pro level. He's played RB and CB .Not saying he can't switch sides ....
Yep. They have made a bunch of "Major League" (Soccer) blunders [Shipp, Jones, etc.], but giving away Sean Johnson was the top one.
How do we keep wasting an international slot at GK? That's like . . . the one position that the US can consistently produce a lot of quality players at.
I am more than comfortable with Raheem Edwards at left back. I like his speed, energy and ability to move forward. I am not convinced that Hasler is a right back (more of a midfielder), but he was okay last season. Corrales might be a better starting option (although I am not sold on him). With the Fire resigning Kappelhoff and, apparently, playing 500,000 Euro for Marcelo, I would say that they will be the starting pair.
