It would be a Title IX violation, too, if it's never allowed to happen with men's sports. Imagine, "Oh, that's a women's sport, it's ok if we have no staff for it. But, of course, for a men's sport we'd always have at least one person."

I agree that Syracuse need to clean house and not just appoint the long time assistant for the last place team in conference. Need new ideas, new recruiting methods. And if she wasn't able to bring in the type of players to be successful as the top assistant and recruiter, it won't change by giving her a bigger title. Look at Nevada for example, UNR tried to promote from within when team was struggling Missy, then after 8 years of losing, finally got rid of her and what'd UNR do, comical, hired their unsuccessful assistant and top recruiter to be their next head coach again. And, two years later, last place or still at the bottom. Need a fresh start. Just my opinion.

I'd think jumping after one year within the same conference wouldn't be worth the reputation hit for the Dr. Especially outside of P5 and especially in the same corner of the globe. Where's the upside? "For A Few Dollars More"? It might not be the best of moves for the long term, explaining why he resigned after one year at a SWAC. I don't think Ag and UIC could offer him much more than what, 30-something k, maybe 45k with the camps and greasers? But, it's Chicago. He could explain that one a little easier, make something up, closer to family, etc.

I think Jackson state was paying decent for a SWAC school. Heard 55-60k. Im sure thats quit a bit more than pine bluff.

Once again thats just what I HEARD about the pay. not first hand knowledge. could be wrong

You are correct JSU is a job with more money for salary and recruiting.

Surprised the announcement hasn’t been made yet. It’s the SWAC, but it appears to be a better job and not in Arkansas

Google “pine bluff” and “murder” or “crime” and you may have your answer.

Not saying Jackson is a ton better in that regard, but it’s a lot easier to escape to the suburbs.

Not to mention pay and scholarships are better. Texas Southern is still open in that league as well. I know Grambling coach is always looking so I’d expect that to open in a year or two, if not sooner. He’s done a good job.

What in the world is going on at Syracuse? This could possibly be the worst search ever.

Really good hire for Mississippi State and good situation for Armstrong. Well done and think that will work out well on both sides. Impressive they made that happen in just 2 weeks.

I would not have taken that good conference dog if I were Armstrong. See Pitt and Syracuse. Oregon State. Every other SEC is a better destination in women's soccer (with the possible exception of likewise distance-challenged Baton Rouge, but second-tier TX, Fla and foreigners will choose that over Starkville). Ag knew to sell high.

Arms was snug as a bug. As Trustee points out, he was way too hasty. Ag probably referred him. I wonder if he was given a finders bonus. Should have left well enough alone, waited for an inevitable winnable situ.

Syracuse is a full on dunptster fire right now. Spring semester is starting and they’ve missed two huge recruiting windows. They would have to give the new coach a 6 year or longer contract to fix it.

Who takes Armstrong’s place at Auburn?

Who does Armstrong hire as an assistant in Starkville?

Syracuse is calling second assts at this point, this program is a mess.

Armstrong was making $90k at Auburn, so I am guessing Karen will have plenty to pick from. He only has one opening at MSU as the assistant that is there is staying on.

Syracuse will convince a young female asst that the job is a good one. I just hope whoever they bring in can get international recruits to follow. That is the only chance Syracuse has to be successful.
I feel bad for the student athletes that are presently at Syracuse they still don’t have a coach.

Honestly not sure if you can say with any certainty that Armstrong is a "great hire" for MSU. He's only been in the college game for 6 years and has zero head coaching experience anywhere close to the level. I've met him and coached against him, and he seems like an extremely good coach - and he may be a great hire when all is said and done. But since he's completely unproven as a head coach at this level, it doesn't seem like anything is a guarantee.

I could be wrong about this, but if a 28 year old female (who started as an assistant at an SEC rival right after she graduated and only had 6 years experience in the college sport) got this job, this board would be up-in-arms about her lack of experience and not being ready. I know he has ODP and club experience but that means nothing relative to running an SEC program.

It’s does seem Syracuse is a total mess. The only positive is that whoever they hire surely cannot do any worse than the last coach. So I’m predicting the program will get better regardless of who they hire.
