I was sitting here thinking the same thing but I’m sure they won’t splash that kind of cash. Maybe a loan but I can’t see BVB loaning CP out and especially loaning him out to a German club in the hunt for a CL spot next year. CP fits their style though

Seems they are all about the "natural position" qualifier for handling calls today. BMG could have been called for 2-3 balls in the box defensively but not called because it was ball to arm/hand in a natural position, it seems.

Tell that to Thierry Henry. ;)

The whole "intent" concept needs to be scrapped anyway. The rule should be something like "has a clear effect on the outcome of the play" with exceptions for players blasting the ball into a defender from 2 feet away.

Agree completely. Something about providing a positive effect on the play.

Agreed. Sometimes a handball can just be bad luck, why be scared of it? When something pings off your hand and changes the play, what does intent matter?

Either way we get rid of the "intent" discussion, which would make it worth it IMO.

So you're advocating calling every ball that hits the arm or hand? PK's go through the roof. You're deciding a lot of games on penalties.

I don't know... maybe you're right, I just wish the intent conversation could be taken out of things. Intent should be about discipline/cards, not whether it's a handball or not. There would be more pens, but not piles more I don't think. It's a game in which the ball shouldn't touch the hand, right? So... even if it's an accident, a hand intervening & altering the game is a bad thing IMO.

If it hits the hand/arm when it's near the body though, like I think happened on Sancho's cross in this match, I don't think that's a handball. But maybe I'm wrong about that too, I'd need a replay.

This was an offensive handball that helped him score. Not a dirty play, a lucky one, but I would have liked to see that called accidental cheating. However, second half is more fun this way, so...

48: Fabian blocks a shot inside the 6. Good hustle and positioning.

Fabian would have been through there had they been able to pick out his run.

How at 29 years old Axel Witsel has not played in a top 5 league until this year is almost criminal. He’s as smooth as butter. I love his game. Always calm. Always collected. Always like an orchestrstor. I remember seeing the dude years old playing with Gooch at Standard Liege and thinking he’s good, real good.

What did it cost to get him back from CHina? 10M? The people in charge of transfers at other clubs should all be fired.

GOAL Reus: Sancho dribbles his way through midfield and picks out Gotze at the top of the box on the right, magically weighted and placed pass into Reus' far post run, sliding shot placed in. 2-1.

58: Fabian thought he drew a foul at the top of the box, no-call leads to a counter and a BVB corner.

BVB have a knack of attacking right when BMG's fullback are upfield. Twice now against FJ's side.

Linked multiple times though right? Seems like a timing issue, could have easily happened before now I feel.

Not sure Sancho is a set piece taker. His corners are not the greatest.

I believe you’re correct. It was something in that neighborhood. I know he was sold to Zenit from Benfica to a Russian record like $40M and sold to China for nearly the same. Then he hates it and is sold to BVB on the “cheap” . Not the first time a CSL has wasted money like that. Anthony Modeste is another example and he came back to Germany as a free.

Those are some serious eyebrows on the BMG coach.

For sure. Linked for years but Zenit and the CSL club paid stupid money for him - at that time anyway - scaring off bidders. Now.....He’s looking like an absolute bargain. Witsel has been the x-factor for BVB.

65: Gotze draws dangerous free kick. His best game in how long? A month or more?

Reus hammers the woodwork on a free kick from 25 yards. Amazing.

Inches away from being a brilliant free kick by Reus. Wow. Keepers feet were frozen.
