This stretch of five losses in six matches has been ugly, but it has been a combination of bad luck and lacking true goal-scoring options (slash dynamic goal creators). It started with a 2-0 loss at home to Watford when Wolves allowed two goals in the span of one minute on the counter, and that was the first time all season something like that had happened. I think the team got a little lax on defense because it had been so effective to start the season. It wasn't until that game that Wolves had allowed one of those out-of-nowhere counter goals that turn a match in about five seconds. It happened twice in 60 seconds. Then they were super unlucky to lose 1-0 at Brighton, allowing a goal on Brighton's only SOG, which was "created" by a shot attempt sliced so wide of the goal it essentially served as a sideways pass. Wolves then wasted about five good chances. Against Tottenham, it allowed more of those clinical counter goals, but would've drawn if not for a terrible offside call that took away a perfectly good goal. Against Arsenal, Wolves should've been up 2-0 (or more) when the late equalizer was scored on a cross that went in, then Wolves still should've won after that. There's no excuse for losing 2-0 at home to Huddersfield or blowing a halftime lead to Cardiff City, but after some unlucky results Wolves have reached the nothing-is-going-right stage of the slump. Just look at the way the Cardiff equalizer was scored followed by what's likely to be their goal of the season. Wolves need a goal-scorer, but don't have one. Jimenez has been solid and is accountable for seven of 13 Wolves goals. He's not the issue as much as the fact Wolves have no other consistent scoring/attacking threat. And he's not pacy either, so he's not a threat unless he's in the penalty area. They're getting nothing from Costa, Jota, Cavaleiro, Traore, and we all know Neves/Moutinho aren't dynamic goal-creators, lest not with their passes going to the aforementioned wingers rather than the likes of Cristiano or Andre Silva or Bernardo Silva. Things will work out, but it's such a struggle right now. Fortunately, the league is top/bottom heavy, so Wolves is still seven points clear of the relegation zone and in 12th place. Wolves just need to stem the tide for now and stop losing relegation fodder. It has plenty of chances to do that considering it still gets return trips to Molineux from West Ham, Crystal Palace, Cardiff City, Brighton, and plays Newcastle and Fulham twice each. Getting a point here and there against Man City, Man U, Arsenal doesn't matter if you turn around and lose at home to Huddersfield. Now they get to face Chelsea without Neves, who picked up his fifth yellow in Cardiff.
Jimenez has scored a few goals but he has missed tons of sitters, some were shocking. He could have easily been the goal scoring lesder so far. I think the lack of squad rotation really hurt them too.
I don't know if I'd go that far. Wolves doesn't generate enough chances for anyone to have missed "tons of sitters." He's had some chances saved from close range that he had to work to get off and he had that terrible whiff against West Ham. I just have a tough time blaming him when he's responsible for more than half the team's goals (and even had a perfectly good goal taken away). He's 27 years old and has already nearly matched his minute totals from last season at Benfica. It's not like he's someone everyone expected to come in and play 90 minutes almost every match like he has. The fact it's him and nobody else up front isn't his fault. Plus, Jota has been absolutely dreadful while Costa has gone from a nice start to doing almost nothing. Way too many chances are falling to Doherty, who has a couple goals and most of the team's worst misses.
Not a Portuguese player, but wolves look set to sign Nakajima from Portimonense. What do we all think of that one ?
It's funny how much things can change in just a few days. From one point out of 18 to consecutive wins that place Wolves as close to the Champions League as to relegation. Jota really needed to hit the back of the net, now that he has he's a different player. His work rate was excellent, now he's helping change the outcome of matches. He just turned 22 last week.
He was dangerous yesterday. Good for Jota he’s got a shit ton of potential. Couldn’t help but think he would’ve added another in the first of Toure wasn’t holding up the ball like he was
I'd also like to applaud Moutinho. I think Nuno burned him out a bit playing him basically 90 minutes every league match for three-plus months, but he has been excellent. It's pretty astounding how many Wolves goals have started with Moutinho winning possession. He won possession on the last two game-winning goals, for instance. I loved watching him take the ball of Willian's foot last week and create the winner while Willian bitched about absolutely nothing to the ref.
So you wait 2 weeks later to reply? Seems convenient. Also, only 4 points separate 7th place from 13th place.
Neves will be a superstar. You know when you just take to a player even though you have no national or club affiliation? He's my new favourite player.
My heart goes out to you. You really do seem to be in a lot of pain. I would just say try to be a more positive and thoughtful person and things can still change. If you stay the way you are, you will always remain this sad, bitter internet troll that is clearly losing in the game of life. Ask for help, you don't have to stay a loser.
Diogo Jota's Premier League breakthrough over the past three matches has just happened to coincide with Wolves getting its season back on track and climbing back up to seventh near the season's midway point. It sucked to see Jota leave with an injury over the weekend, but it doesn't seem serious. He's apparently day-to-day and his availability vs. Liverpool on Friday will be determined pre-match. With Jimenez continuing to play well and Jota finally showing his quality, Wolves should be firmly in the top half of the table when all is said and done. Nobody was expecting Wolves to threaten the big six this season, but right now it is one point behind Man United, it has lost just one match out of five against a big six club (due to a terrible offside call, I might add), and it is closer on points to the top four than the bottom three. Someone coming here just to give fellow Portuguese shit for supporting Wolves, calling Jota "the biggest scrub in Portuguese football" and then telling us to get a life is awfully rich. That behavior is taken straight from The Internet Troll's Guidebook. Go find someone else to goad.
Lol. Man. You know so much about me. I replied to GD's convenient timing of his reply and your vagina became sandy. Are you his attorney? GD, is that your burner account? Are you that sensitive over Wolverhampton?
Naw, I'll stick around. I mean, if everyone that dislikes you left, we would end up with like 1 or 2 guys.
Not quite. This dude felt the need to attack me for no apparent reason, but considering this forum isn't moderated anymore, I'm not surprised.
