The USSF now says that Round 1 of the 2019 U.S. Open Cup will tentatively take place on May 8. The rest of the tournament will be announced in January.
It looks like there will be one more qualifying round in the spring: #USOC2019 UPDATE 🚨A 4️⃣th round of @opencup local qualifying has been scheduled for the weekend of April 6️⃣-7️⃣. Hosts will be determined in mid-January after the completion of the 3️⃣rd qualifying round.— U.S. Open Cup (@opencup) December 17, 2018
Now that US Soccer has decided to hold a 4th round of qualifying, and decreasing the number of local qualifiers to 7 from 14 (which was right in line with the first two years). I'd say we're going to have a significant decrease to the number of amateur teams in the cup in 2019. Let's hope it's temporary but here's how I see it shaking up. This is just my educated guess. Round 1: 6 USL League One teams and 32 amateur teams, 19 matches Round 2: 25 USL Championship teams and 19 winners of Round 1, 22 matches Yes, there will be 3 USL Championship vs. USL Championship matches in this round. What a bummer. Round 3: 22 winners of Round 2, 11 matches Round 4: 21 MLS teams and 11 winners of Round 3, 16 matches With 5 MLS vs. MLS matchups in that round. Round of 16, QF, SF, Final from there If I am correct about the format of the tournament, that'll mean there are 52 pro teams in the tournament and 32 amateur teams for a total of 84 which would be the lowest amount of teams participating in the tournament since 2014. Disappointing Now here's how the 32 amateur teams break down 7 Local Qualifiers from 4 rounds of qualifying Milwaukee Bavarians SC (Amateur Cup Champion) 14 NPSL teams 10 USL League Two teams Read up in the handbook here in pages 11-13 if you want to see how I came up with that, noting that there were 98 eligible NPSL teams in 2018 and 69 eligible USL League Two teams in 2018. From there we can also determine the teams qualifying from NPSL and USL League Two based on their qualifying criteria also listed in the same handbook. NPSL teams in: AFC Ann Arbor Duluth FC Erie Commodores FC New York Cosmos B FC Motown FC Baltimore Junior Lone Star FC Orange County FC FCM Portland El Farolito Miami FC 2 Little Rock Rangers Laredo Heat SC Chattanooga FC USL League Two teams in: Dayton Dutch Lions Des Moines Menace Black Rock FC Reading United AC Myrtle Beach Mutiny Brazos Valley Cavalry FC SIMA Aguilas Colorado Rapids U23 FC Golden State Force New York Red Bulls U23 Overall, very disappointing but hopefully temporary. Somebody needs to convince MLS that playing in another round (of 64) wouldn't hurt as much as they think it would (unlikely)
That's sad, I wish the MLS joined in for a round of 64, That would mean 43 ties in the previous round with 86 teams (Less travel with this many teams). 31 pro teams bring down to 55 remaining teams. 24 teams from the USL League 2 and NPSL leave 31 spots for remaining amateur teams.

It sounds like you called it exactly right. According to @JohnPMotta, open division entries for #USOC2019 have been confirmed. Last year, there were 55 entries (20 PDL, 22 NPSL,, 13 Local)...for 2019, it has been cut to 32. Format should look like this: MLS : 21USL Champ: 25USL 1: 6USL 2 (PDL): 10NPSL: 14Local: 8 pic.twitter.com/4nDed0ecuY— TheCup.us (@usopencup) January 11, 2019

94 amateur and other non-PDL/NPSL teams have entered the qualifying tournament. There will be at least 3 (and possibly 4) rounds of this tournament this fall/next spring to whittle that down to the teams that will advance to the 2019 U.S. Open Cup proper. The exact number is TBD. Last year 14 teams qualified out of this tournament but one was disqualified so only 13 participated in the 2018 Open Cup tournament.
I don't know why you copied these posts. Registration is now open for the 2020 Local Qualifying Tournament. The deadline to enter is August 12. At some point after that we will hear details about the next tournament. Last year's announcement was on August 29. https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2019/07/registration-window-open-2020-us-open-cup-local-qualifying
