David Banda, one of Madonna's and Guy Ritchie's adopted sons, has joined the Benfica youth academy. He was born in Malawi on September 24, 2005. Not much else to report other than his mother moving to Portugal to live with him. No idea how good he is and way too early to say if he'll pan out of course. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/madonna-moves-lisbon-son-david-11086243
Well, this is a thing. He's listed, with photo, on Benfica's "Plantel B" roster page: https://www.slbenfica.pt/pt-pt/futebol/formacao/iniciados/plantelb
Five Names and.... Two Smoking Barrels. Or, Son of Succubus. Finally, the US is getting the black kids from poverty into soccer.
A mention in the WSJ (disclosure: I work there, though I had nothing to do with the story, I swear): On top of its academy here, Benfica operates five regional talent centers around a country smaller than Ohio to give promising youngsters a place to train closer to home—that’s how it snared a young Bernardo Silva. Only if they continue to develop do they then leave their families and move here, outside of Lisbon. Seixal is considered so prestigious that Madonna relocated to the area in 2018 to support her Malawi-born son through his time at the academy. https://www.wsj.com/articles/europes-most-efficient-player-factories-are-in-portugal-11581332400 Still seems to be with the Iniciados B, one of a few 05s. https://www.slbenfica.pt/pt-pt/futebol/formacao/iniciados/plantelb
