Aggressive play vs an obvious dive in the penalty box are pretty different. I wish we had video of this fsu dive. It was atrocious.
Download the watchESPN app and you can replay this "obvious, atrocious" dive as many times as you'd like.
Do you know at what time frame this dive was? Was it in the UNC box or was it on defense? Did it have a serious impact on the game?
While he's looking for it he can also look at how many times mucherera could've been carded for clear dissent. I count enough times that unc would've been playing a man down.
I’ve been found out☺️ TDS is a main source for HS Club and college information for me. To me they have a West Coast bias. Maybe all the best high school players and college players are out there and I’m just biased I’m jealous 6 Stanford players in top 26 of the nation? Don’t get me wrong, they are good, very good! But not six players from the top 26 good You know how I feel about USC. I would still love to see USC and North Carolina tangle.
You may be right. We won't know this year. I'll just say USC and UNC were our toughest tournament games. Stanford was much easier for us, but as you pointed out, it may be due to matchups. We fair well against other possession teams.
Florida State beat the only two other possession teams quite handily. Playing direct seems to be the best way to beat them. The loss of Kuikka is a lot bigger than you think. I would not be surprised to see Howell end up there. My only question would be her speed. Kuikka bailed them out a ton.
I agree about the loss of Kuikka. She was a mistake eraser. I happen to believe Madril will take her place very well.
is it really necessary for all these non-UNC fans to come on to the UNC thread and post they way you guys have in the past page?
Who says I am not a UNC fan? I guess that you own this thread and are “Mr. UNC” but this is America not China. Lighten up Trump.
No one cares whether you are a UNC fan or not but when one clicks on a thread that says "UNC Tar Heels 2018" it would be nice to read about UNC.
I think first half. Fsu striker in offensive box trying to draw pk. Ok... I am going to say something that is not directed at the commenters here, but it reminds me of something. I have seen some officiating patterns at times that seem driven by physical characteristics of players. Larger players get called for fouls more often on 50-50 situations. African American players seem to get called more too. If the player is somewhat larger, muscular, and African American, I think they get called for fouls on close ones more often. I could think of several unc players who met this profile over the years who seemed to have a rough time with fouls.
I was unaware of this article... If UNC fans have not seen it, it is a good read about Julia and UNC's ongoing transition from early adopter dominance into the increasing parity in DI college soccer. http://www.espn.com/espnw/sports/ar...na-win-away-another-college-cup?sf203451078=1
Ally Sentnor, #1 ranked player per TDS (class of 2022) out of MA committed to UNC. They already have the phenom Olivia Moultrie in the pipeline as well assuming she doesn't go pro Lindsey Horan style. Looks like UNC recruiting is starting to pickup again
As an opposing fan, it's hard not to like players like Ashley. I like Fiery players who get after it. She fits the bill. Leshnak also caught my eye in the first half after Dorosy had a decent look on a counter, but sent the ball wide of the goal. Leshnak was very animated in communicating with her defense.(aka she got up in their grill) I love that about her! UNC has their share of those gritty fighters that I admire! Ashley, Leshnak, Fox are just a few who come to my mind!
Welcome EHaz... (says you're new with three posts..) Do post often! I like you take. But I am always inclined to try to look at both sides. Sentnor has been a phenom for a few years. She played a few U15 international tournaments in and last year (Sept 2017) started with the U16s in Germany as a 13 year old. This last year she mostly played with the U15s and traveled to an international tournament in China (where she was named tournament MVP) and got a look with the U17 team this fall. The intriguing thing is that when really young kids playjng up 2 or 3 years it is often because they are large early developing athletes. Sentnor is small for her age. (In videos from this past summer she is slight and appears to be about 4'11". Her height is not listed anywhere I can find it.) So it will be interesting to see how she develops as she will likely (if she hasn't already) encounter a growth spurt soon. I guess the bottom line is how she will be as a player once she has achieved her adult eight (and this is one of those risks of committing early.) As to Moultrie, it is true that her dad has taken her (12 years old this last summer) to several European pro teams where she spent a week each scrimmaging with the Olympique Lyon and Bayern Munich U17 girls, and Paris St.-Germain with the U17 boys. It certainly looks like what some of us predicted a year ago when she committed to UNC that the chances of her going to college to play soccer are increasingly slim.
Wait, a twelve year old is committed to a college?! Oh boy just read she committed as an eleven year old...what in tarnation?
Yup. The full brouhaha of last year hashed that one out on these pages..... The fact is that this kid is on a course that we have never seen before. She is determined to be the best female soccer player in the world, and her father is fully behind this wish (and according to the New York Times is spending almost full time at directing the progress.) The Times article makes it clear that Moultrie may be, more than Horan and certainly Pugh, the player that breaks the mold for all following female soccer athletes to aim for professional training full time and skip college. (April Hendricks has made a point that most all of the best women's soccer countries are getting their best women players into professional full time training by age 18, and the US does not have that option in this country's current set up.) See: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/05/sports/soccer/uswnt-bayern-munich-olivia-moultrie.html The way it is portrayed, Anson knows full well that he will probably not see Moultrie as a player for UNC in 2024 (or maybe 2023), but is comfortable with making an offer to accommodate her if by some chance she changes her trajectory and decides to attend college instead of playing pro. On her side, her dad has made it clear that having attended other college camps (UCLA and Texas before she went to visit UNC) that the UNC program best fits her interests and goals if college it is to be. Once again, we fans will just wait to see what really happens, and in this case, anything could!
