How does today's news play into the browns & crew sharing a facility? It seems like if everyone is investing so much in the Mapfre area, why would the Crew need to get into another training facility that's shared with the browns?
Can someone walk me through the legal transaction piece of this. We believe they wouldn’t announce this without actually owning it. Precourt or his legal entity owned the stadium. He would have sold it to Haslem/Edwards or the city, right? That would have happened already at this point. If he sold to Haslem/Edwards they are gifting the land to the City as part of the overall funding strategy. Not sure how this worked or maybe I am way off.
Last I checked, Bruce Arena has a pretty good track record at putting winning MLS teams together. Seems like a good pick.
Everyone should get to a Columbus Machine game at some point. It's a fun sport to watch. Beer and food is cheap too. Hell, maybe everyone should start playing at Mapfre now. The Eagles. FC Columbus. Columbus Machine. One place where all of our other teams can cross-promote. Maybe get some summer double-headers.
If I lived in an inflamed California desert, I’d be pushing people over to move to the verdant paradise of the Great Lakes region.
If the AAF (de facto NFL D-League) gets big enough to have an affiliate for each NFL team (a la the NBA G-League), I could see the Browns affiliate playing at MAPFRE. Also, potential home for Crew USL team (if it's not used to fill dates at the Browns' Stadium) and/or PDL (or League Two or whatever they're calling it now) team. By the way, if the new ownership is looking for a relatively inexpensive way to improve player development, here is an idea: USL Championship team in Cleveland (partner with Cleveland Force expansion bid, give them a sweetheart deal on rent at the Browns' Stadium in exchange for taking Crew prospects who need playing time above the League One level). This may have to be an "unofficial" affiliation as I don't know if teams can have affiliates in both USL pro leagues. Primary reserve team (Crew 2) in League One playing in new stadium or MAPFRE U-23/summer college team playing in League Two at MAPFRE
Five MLS Cups (and recent ones too) Three Supporters Shields One US Open Cup One CONCACAF Champions Cup There are many teams in MLS that would like to have a trophy case like that.... ....including ours.
Or maybe make it like a pledge drive: 3000 Season Tickets: Andy is given atomic wedgie 5000 Season Tickets: Andy is made to wear diapers and forbidden from using restrooms 7000 Season Tickets: Andy is made to wear pants made from live wasp nests 10000 Season Tickets: Andy is fired
Bruce Arena is everything the Crew stood in opposition to for the first 10 years of its existence. Our club was literally not-Bruce Arena.
Here's nice little tie-in for y'all. Simon Fraser (who is now a Dr.) played for UA on that dominant state championship team. His teammate/classmate and Mr. football in OH in 2000 was Jeff Backes who went on to star at Northwestern. Backes is also now a doctor. And guess who he works for? Why of course Orthopedic One alongside none other than our beloved Dr. Pete Edwards Jr.
THIS!!! ********IN THIS! I swear to god, some of you guys are so clueless that you would jump at the chance to buy a used car from Richie ********in Williams just to shake his hand.
If we hire Bruce Arena as GM you could plausibly argue that Anthony Precourt knew more about the Columbus Crew than the new owners at the time of their respective purchases.
Wait... I thought Caleb Porter and Bruce Arena did not get along. At least when CP was coaching Portland and BA coaching the LA Galaxy, there was clear animosity between the two. So this would be an interesting combination.
Everything about the Crew is so ********ing stupid right now. Well, it always is, but especially so right now.
