An increasingly alarming trend within the German football system is how often and easily players get injured. A lot times in happens when players are young and finally get a chance to be called up to their club's senior team but somehow get injured right away for a significant amount of time which derails their development. Often they get injured on training and don't even make it to the actual game time. Some don't even end up making it at all and have their careers ruined. For the amount of resources invested into youth academies and such it is unacceptable how easily serious injuries happen. Responsibility needs to be placed with the medical and training staff. How the hell is this continuing to happen? Considering how much money is being invested, I'd consider the medical training capability of German clubs and youth system to be among some of the most disappointing in Europe with how many players get injured every year.
We all know about Reus and Götze's issues. More current NT calibre players who have been affected by constant injuries include: Gnabry, Uth, Goretzka, Emre Can, Weigl, Stark etc. Guendogan must have lost several years worth of playing time due to injuries. Draxler earlier on in his Schalke days seemed to have gotten injured every season as well. Recently, Kramer who barely plays nowadays got himself serious injured while only in regular team training. It's a common occurrence to hear about players like Ginczek and Didavi who will never be healthy enough to play through entire seasons. While youth players such as Felix Platte, Gian-Luca Itter, Florian Mueller, Aymen Barkok, Ole Kaeuper and more keep getting injured right at opportunities where they could have a breakthrough chance in their clubs.
Right now there is at least Uth, Stark, Kramer and Hector as players who are severely injured and possibly out for rest of the Hinrunde. The Bender brothers have actually been able to remain healthy so far this season. But constant injuries from the past have pretty much made them no longer NT options for quite some time now.
would not be surprised if this due to the whole soft approach play where the kids avoid contact at all cost. So when they get into contact they are injured. Possession style obsession has tons of negatives for dev. German players are made of glass. I also recall last season tons of youth prospects got injured just as they cemented themselves. Another one is Felix Uduokhai lost his XI place due to being injured. seriously these constant injuries will just delay so many player's dev. People have said that Werner is lucky that he's almost never gotten injured otherwise he would likely have joined the has been youth player prospects.
Teuchert, Geiger, Amiri, Platte are also ones that come to mind. Geiger has been out for almost a year. Recently played in Hoff II. For the last 3 months, Nagelsmann seemed worried that if he plays he'll get injured and delayed for another half a year. So he was made to only play if he's 100%. I think club/coaches/doctors and even players also tend to rush back even if not 100% fit. Which doesn't help these players.
Another shame is that two of Germany's top next generation technique/creative players in Nicolas Kuehn and Oliver Batista Meier are getting hammered by injuries so early in their development. Looks like OBM might be out until April 2019, which basically means season is just about over for him.
The timing of Teuchert's injury is very disappointing. With Uth and Embolo out this could have been the chance for him. But instead looks like they're even having to go with Haji Wright as there's no other options left.
those 2 guys it can't be helped though. They are dribblers where the ball is glued to their feet, so defenders tackling them to take the ball away also end up taking Kuhn/OBM out. OBM's current injury is from a tackle if I'm correct. although good that Kuhn is fit. One thing I notice about Kuhn is that he doesn't dribble all the time. Uses it here and there almost on purpose to make players not except his dribbles. And when he sees a chance/opening for it. He's fast, good technique, good shot, combines well with other so he doesn't always need to do it.
yeah it's unfortunate for Teuchert this was his chance to play and unfortunate for the German U21 that their main striker is injured and not taking his 1BL chances.
it's also weird that most of the German-Americans seem to be injury prone. guys like Brooks, Johnson, Chandler, Boyd, Wooten, Gipson, Shawn Parker, his bro Devante Parker. some of these guys started to become constant injured the older the got. Even a 99 LB Corey Anton injured himself in U19 and hasn't played any competitive matches in over a year. Currently in Hoff II where he only made the bench once all season. Missed the last eligible U19 season and thus missed out on massively crucial dev time.
Crazy to think how Shawn Parker played every youth NT level from U15-21 and was an important scorer back then. Another player who's an early achiever and ended up being a lost talent burning out at U21.
I think it has to do with the outdated physical training techniques used. More modern sports science and medicine needs to be put into play, but tradition is still very important in German football. It wouldn't be a bad idea to bring in someone from the US that works in the field for NBA or NFL teams.
Marius Wolf's first season with Dortmund has been extremely injury plagued, had muscle issues earlier which has restricted him to only 4 league matches played so far. Now he has knee problems. Steven Skrzybski who's only played 3 matches suffers a shoulder injury in his first CL match
Kilian Jakob is pretty much injured all the time since joining Augsburg and will probably end up being a lost player https://www.ligainsider.de/mobile/kilian-jakob_12602/verletzungsbedingter-ausfall-von-jakob-258572/
wow, he just came back from injury in early November and already injured again. how many youth players will delay their careers because of injuries? Seems to be getting worse all the time.
Jakob seems to have even worse injury issues than Platte. Former youth player Marvin Stefaniak is constantly injured despite not playing and has had nothing but bad news since joining Wolfsburg couple seasons ago https://www.ligainsider.de/mobile/marvin-stefaniak_6122/stefaniak-trainiert-individuell-258618/
but yeah barely plays and has injury issues, it's not even his 1st either, he had knee issues earlier in the season. Would not even be surprised if he's out until the Winter break. such a waste, we still have 0 pictures at what Nagelsmann intends to do with him either. He's the one who announced in a press conference that Otto has a knock yet hasn't played him once all season.
Shame about how Nagelsmann doesn't have a clear plan for Otto's development situation. It's kind of looking like how Itter at Wolfsburg is getting lost in the mix.
Nagelsmann seems to have no interest in youth dev this season. All he does is dev Nelson, who played 16 games for Arsenal last season and that's it. He seems almost like he doesn't care tbh. It's his last season in Hoff, these players won't be of any use to him next year, he's got no benefit from bothering. Had he stayed next year, than there would be a ton of benefit in him playing youngsters. in fact remembering his statements when he was announced as RB coach, he seemed like all he cared about was to end his last season at Hoff on a high note and that's it/
completely forgot that 02-Lazar Samardzic has been injured since Sept and seems like he'll be back in Spring. Not only is OBM out for awhile but another promising player.
Florian Baak joins the list of examples of youngsters who somehow get injured in training right when they could potentially get a chance. Tsiy Williams Ndenge since he joined FC Luzern in the Swiss league during the summer still hasn't played yet as he's severely injured
last week, Sabiri comes on for Huddersfield his 1st chance in forever only to be subbed out like 3 minutes later as he was taken out and injured his shoulder. now today, Abouchabaka comes on for Furth his 1st chance in awhile only to be subbed out a few minutes. He went for the ball and the opponent clipped him. Went off then came back on the field to be subbed out a few minutes later. Was super angry and went directly to the locker room.
Wow the injury proneness of players nowadays is ridiculous Törles Knöll is still injured and Nürnberg for like a third week in a row
