    Snarky much?
A one seed beating a 4 seed is not a surprise, although the score was.

The top of the ACC is comparable with the top of the PAC 12, although I'd give the PAC a very slight edge.
Middle down, the ACC is tougher than the PAC.
No other conference is as strong at the top as either of those IMO.

People have accused me of using zero facts and having an indefensible opinion. I have used quite a few facts actually. You will have a VERY difficult time using NCAA results to support this.

NC State absolutely stole one. They were outshot 25-3.
Virginia Tech was outplayed in every statistical category except fouls by Arkansas.
    BC lost to Hofstra 4-1.
    Duke lost to Georgetown 4-1
Clemson was played off the pitch by Ole Miss

You will have a very difficult time proving your opinion. And feel free to use facts or results.

You seem to fail to recognize that all but one team will end this tournament with a loss

Picks on a Duke team gutted by injury. Zzzzzz. Out of interest, is your team or daughter still playing ?

What part of my assertion did you disagree with?
Do you not agree that the ACC and PAC 12 are better at the top than any other conference?
Do you not agree that the ACC is deeper than the PAC 12? Those are the points I made.

    NC State lost 5-0
    UVA lost to BAYLOR!
    Wake lost to Penn State

In fact, no ACC team won except against another ACC team.

In fact FSU beat a top tier (deservedly so) USC team. Great team! Great coach! Watch out for them next year!

you keep trying to make sweeping statements based on ONE GAME. Like i said earlier, I dont care what you think of the ACC. UVA,Duke UNC,FSU are all top level teams and programs. Would be an honor to have kid playing soccer at any of them. I wll put USC,UCLA,Stanford in that same category.

You can keep going on, but nothing that happens in the NCAAs will change my opinion. Nor will you.

He's going to point out that FSU technically tied USC.

Duke (as I mentioned before) is one of the least athletic teams in the top tier. I know the CB got hurt but was there a forward that got injured ? If not Duke would be better off not committing to so many 9th graders. Georgetown was as good (or better) technically and physically was superior to Duke. (Georgetown had a UCLA and Stanford transfer -> getting kids closer to college age would be smart for the desirable schools.)

As far as the rest of the teams they are going more or less as expected. Stanford the best combination of top 3 ranked academic school, generous financial aid, and big time athletics should expect final 4 every year. UCLA huge pool of in state players that with a half scholarship are a steal for parents. (UCLA had >100,000 high school applications). The others are 'physical' schools like UNC/Baylor vs the more finesse/"skilled" teams.

The overachieving school is Florida State, which somehow is top tier despite being 4 or 5 tiers below Stanford, Duke, academically.

Darn, 4 or 5 tiers below? How many tiers do you have?
Don’t get me wrong, we recognize the advantages of academic prestige, but we have been moving up rankings. #71 USNWR. #26 among public universities.
Certainly not in Stanford stratosphere, but a very good education! Again maybe in your rankings, that is 4 to 5 tiers below, but it comes off as very Ivory Tower snobbery.
Agree that Stanford should be #1 in recruiting (or there about)annually.
Mark parlays the occasional domestic stud (Jaelin Howell) with little known gems (Pavlisko) and internationals (Kuikka, Connolly, Castellanos, Villalobos, Carle and Patten) to cobble together a great team.
We’ll be sure to genuflect before playing the blue bloods.

Because they recruit heavily outside the USA. Overachieving? Not sure I agree

It is indisputable that the Pac12 and ACC are the best schools at the top, with the Pac12 getting my nod as the best by a smidge because they've got three 1A programs whereas I'd say the ACC has two--UNC and Fla. State. I'd put Duke and UVA--which are good every year and outstanding some years--a slight notch below those two at this time. Krikorian has built his FSU program on internationals, aggressively jumping into that talent pool while most everybody else was content, by and large, to stick with U.S. players. I think FSU's success has got lots of school's thinking that they've got to get /more/ internationals now.

I'd give the ACC's middle tier of programs a slight nod over both the PAC12 and SEC. The ACC's middle-tier seems pretty stable nowadays with Clemson, Wake Forest, Va. Tech, Louisville and Notre Dame typically battling for position below the Big Four, the last having fallen off somewhat from its glory years. That's a solid group of programs. Boston College and NC State may have moved into the middle tier conversation as both have improved after long stretches when they were weak.

In the PAC12, it seems that Washington, Wa. State and Colorado are solid most years. Cal, too, yes, though the Bears were down this year while Arizona (fairly impressive team) and Utah were up. I don't think the Pac12 has quite the depth and consistency in the middle of the conference as the ACC does

I don't think the SEC, as a conference, really embraced soccer in that uber-competitive SEC way until about a decade or so ago, I'd venture. A few schools in the football-made league took it seriously as far back as 15 or more years ago, but some (many?) didn't. Soccer came slowly to the South, don't ya know. Florida, which has national title, has been the premier team in the conference for years (though the gators really struggled this year), followed by Texas A&M, which has a great big soccer state to recruit in. South Carolina, the Rutgers of the southeast with its stingy defense, has joined those two, and Tennessee and Vandy are coming on strong. There is more variability in the SEC than the PAC12 and ACC, I'd say--some very good coaches, a few of whom have been around for 15+ years--partly because the recruiting is more variable. I kind of feel like I know what to expect from a number of the middle tier programs in the ACC and Pac12--but I don't think that's the case with the SEC, where teams like Auburn, Mississippi (which beat Clemson, and deservedly in the NCAA), Arkansas and LSU can be very up and down, year to year--quite competitive some years and not the so good other years. Except for Vandy, SEC schools can't really offer the academic pedigree that such schools as Stanford, Duke, UVA and others can offer, which is a bit of a handicap--it is a state-school conference, after all---and so they make up for it with great facilities! It's all interesting--but not worth getting too hot and bothered about, gents.

I agree with pretty much everything you said L'orange.

We compete really hard for stud US players, but don't win
those battles very often. We recruited Sophia Smith very hard. We also
    recruited Pinto (UNC) as well.
We did get Howell and Nighswonger this coming year, but that's what
we do. We poach one stud here and there and then get some the
blue bloods either don't know about, or don't value.
Pavlisko and Emily Madril (out this year with ACL) are two examples of
    diamonds we've found.

Our best chance for elite players usually comes from overseas, where soccer quality plays a bigger role in their decision than academic pedigree.
Kuikka in the CB deserves AA 1st or at worst 2nd team honors IMO.
I'm biased, but think she would compete for USWNT if she were a citizen. She is a Finland NTer.
Villalobos, Connolly, Carle, Patten, Castellanos and Zhao are all elite in their countries' talent pool.
We have been really hit with injuries this year.
We've lost Lynch (US Gem), Robbins, Edwards, Madril and now Bollinger to injury!

We're still very good, but don't have the numbers of quality depth we had.

While watching the match yesterday, I noticed a player on the sidelines on crutches looking bummed to be in crutches, who was that?

Probably Kristina Lynch who was injured 2 games ago ending a great freshman season at the worst possible time.

Pure compliment to FSU coaching and player selection. I'm a public school person myself - just pointing out the reality that at most 30 college players a year get to stick on an NWSL roster for the right to make 20$k a year. Most kids/parents should be thinking education. It's not an accident which schools are perennially top in womens' soccer. And like it or not Stanford is a top 3 academic school (now more selective than Harvard) and Duke is ~ top 8. Look at Georgetown, they have some fabulous players some overlooked, some committed later but great school (academics and setting).
FSU has the landscape against them but plays great soccer and does well. Hats off to them. I think Duke underperformed relative to where they should be given the academic ranking and desirability of the college. Georgetown vs Duke going forward will be interesting to watch; Georgetown recruits slightly older players than Duke.
Duke's success or failure could also be a reflection on the national team U-little selection process since it seems Duke basically picks from them in 9th grade. So maybe as it becomes more obvious that "slotting" a players soccer future in 9th grade isn't a great idea, it will be reflected more in Duke's performance. If I am remembering correctly one of Duke's best players in the last 5 years, Imani Dorsey was committed to Notre dame and was a late Duke addition.

I don't think anybody needs to fret about Duke. They lost a ton of talent off last year's excellent team, and this year had a younger, less experienced team (but also very talented) and got the Sweet 16. They'll be fine.

ill bite. They made the S16 with a pretty weak resume. Who did they beat this year? they pretty much lost every big game they played vs a real contender. Will they be Ok? Sure. Do I see players on the roster now close top the caliber they have lost over the last 2 years? I do not.

duke should never be bad, just sayin they underperform relative to where they should be IMHO. Before Russo got hurt UNC only started a single field player who was a senior; Duke I believe had 3-4 seniors start, so this idea that Duke is really young is not true. I think they gamble on 9th graders the national team "scouts" think are good and then hope they pan out. If Duke waited a year or two longer before offering they'd be better off. And if I'm right that Imani Dorsey was committed to Notre Dame as a senior before switching to Duke in April that says a lot about Duke's recruiting decisions.

I think Ella Stevens will be, BUT i think she needs a pacy front runner to be effective. I saw big signs of frustration from her this year as teams attacked her lack of mobility by putting athletic CDMs on her.

MP is supposed to be a Racioppi replacement and MKM simialr for McCoy. Not sure either will be as good as the former.
