Lletget on for Bobby Wood, let Weah play striker. Adams on for Trapp. Trapp hasn't been bad but Adams bring so much more to the table.
I think there's a lot of truth to Twellman's point about the lack of enthusiasm stemming from the lack of permanent coach. There's no point trying to impress Sarachan, and Sarachan clearly has no idea how set the team up to be successful.
That's about as bad as I've seen the US play. And I think Pulisic, Weah, Brooks, are pretty good players. The shitstorm that is the US team these days seems more systemic to me than it does player quality.
He did. We went from Confederations Cup finals and Gold Cup finals to losing to Jamaica in the semis and missing the WC, while beating out our fearless identity and turning the program into a bunch of careless prima donnas. He left his mark.
Green doesn't really make much sense in this game - we're unlikely to have enough possession that his "strengths" outweigh his weaknesses as a non-existent defender. Wood was offside more often than he received a dangerous pass. Miazga looks rusty, Villafana slow compared to his matchups, Guzan looks uncomfortable playing the ball out of the back, and McKennie hasn't done as much as I would have hoped. I have concerns that Trapp has topped out at this level. Pulisic is having to cover too much ground but our only dangerous attacker so far, and Brooks has been solid enough.
This game is really pissing me off. I don't complain much about back passes, but something is wrong, horribly wrong, the way the backpasses are being played by this group. It is one thing to pass back when there are no target options going forward, but it is another thing entirely to make a backpass when there is no pressure and clear passing options going forward. What the HELL??? Doe nobody know how/when to do it? Or, how to set up a passing sequence picking up a few forward yards at a time. This comes down to coaching. The coach must force the players to look, think and pass when the opportunity is present. I just don't see it and it is pissing me off.
That half from Weah was shocking to me. I think he touched the ball less than a handful of times, and when he did, it was clearances from deep. You have to make runs, demand the ball, show that you want to play. It felt like he didnt care if he was involved or not.
For me, this is all on Sarachan. When we have been exciting going forward has been when we press high and play on the ground. He came out from minute one and had us drop back all the way back. We weren't pressing the ball until it was 10 yards deep in our own half- that's NOTHING to do with talent, that's everything to do with how they were told to play. Gutless and cowardice.
Methinks that everyone knows that by now. But with Robinson injured at the last moment (yeah, he's not leaps and bounds better, but better nonetheless) and no other established backup, what more could have been done?
We're watching two different games. You keep picking on him, but Weah came all the way back and stood next to Brooks to get the ball once, but didn't get it. CP has Yedlin on his side that at least affords him to go further forward, but Weah hasn't had the ball played to his feet in space a single time. Plus, Weah is pressing his heart out while Bobby stands around.
Pray tell, just who would he be demanding the ball from? Unless Lingard, or Winks feel the need to supply him, he can "make runs" and "demand the ball" until he is blue in the face.
Don't worry, I'm shitting on everyone. But this is supposed to be one of our next starlets and I hardly saw him in that half. At the very least, Pulisic was connecting some passes with Mckennie and Yedlin. Did Weah complete one?
